I'm sure there are threads about it, but I'll tell you I've lost 71 lbs in a year (next week anyhow) and have not dieted at all. So don't feel like you NEED a gimmick, just measure your food and watch calories and portion sizes and you'll lose weight.

I request that it not be brought or I count our 9-12 chips and put them on my side and eat only those. Salsa is a pretty low calorie "dip" so I don't worry about it too much for those 9-12 chips.

71lbs in 1 year (well Monday it will be 1 year)! That is a little shy of my original goal of 75lbs in one year but I'm not complaining. I've since changed my ultimate goal anyhow so it doesn't really matter. So that averages out to 1.3lbs a week for an entire year!

I found that early on, the first 6 or 8 weeks I HAD to avoid those things because I wasn't far enough into a new habit of healthy eating. Now after a year I can have a SMALL slice of cake or ONE scoop of ice cream, not feel bad, know the correct portion size and log it correctly. But that's after a year's worth of work. I…

I eat them because it's easy to take with me and not have to worry about it. I find that I've had no problem drinking enough water to flush the sodium out so I don't get bloated or retain water when I eat them. For awhile I was eating one 5 days a week, now I'm down to once a week or so because I'm home more now at lunch…

It's done in grams, so if you were over 14 grams you were NO WHERE near anything considered dangerous. Like I mentioned before my goal is now 145 grams of protein (and I weigh 171lbs at this point). I'm also a nursing student so we have done quite a bit of nutrition and how protein is processed in the body and a normal…

me! I'm just north of Milwaukee. I'm 28 (29 on sunday) and married for 9 1/2 years and have a 4.5 year old son. I'm a full time nursing student too! I joined MFP the day after my birthday last year with over 80lbs to lose to be at the TOP of my healthy BMI range. Now I'm down 71lbs and while I've worked out the entire year…

MFP has protein set fairly low. I have it set to 30% of my diet since following 40/30/30 for carbs, fat and protein. I weigh 171lbs and my protein is now set at 145g a day, it IS a lot of protein but that much is important for muscle building, and feeling full. So it's totally okay to be over MFPs recommendation.

Our bodies and brains NEED fat so getting it in healthy ways is important, nuts (especially in the raw) are part of that. Almonds are especially good for you.

I'm a former Qdoba employee. I also vote for either the Mango salad or the traditional taco salad minus the bowl and sour cream. If you go out to www.qdoba.com you can build your meal to find out calories if you want it with sour cream, cheese, meat, rice, beans etc and completely customize it.

Yes lots of people gain weight on vacation but that's because they aren't paying attention and eat way too much. If I have something I know I'm doing I set my calories to maintenance and that allows me more freedom on vacation but I'm still logging and paying attention. Make sure you're drinking enough water to flush any…

It took me a couple weeks to not feel hungry because I had been OVEReating so much. If you stick with it you WILL feel better. If you're exercising you need to eat back your exercise calories and NET at least 1200 calories a day (not just consume 1200 minimum but NET that many). You're retraining your brain and your…

Woohoo! You look great!!!!! I really think we need badges, I'm going to hit 365 days in 4 days and will be down 71lbs (unless I'm down another on Wed lol).

The pictures showed me that in about 15/20lbs it was noticeable, but it took me about 30/35 to see it myself. I started noticing that I could walk farther, work out harder after about 6 weeks. I've been doing this a year now and after 71lbs lost I can't believe how far I've come and I remember thinking that I would NEVER…

I'm actually only doing the Ab Ripper video (I mean I'm doing other work outs but only that from P90X). It's taken me doing it three times a week for about a month to feel like I can do the V-up Roll Ups, they are the WORST for me! The side ones for the obliques took me a bit. I found I was better off to do them without…

Those of us that have read the books were hoping for it SOON. Not all things are the same in the books to the show that's for darn sure but mostly figure the MAJOR stuff happens ;)

It doesn't happen over night. When I started there's NO WAY I could do those things for 40 min or an hour etc. It takes time to build up to that, and not everyone has time for an hour or an hour and a half of workout a day.

Early on I did do that because I couldn't physically DO 30 min of hard walking, etc. So I split it up and I did count it as 30 min of walking (like I did it in one session). A year later, I would definitely not count it that way, because by the time you get your heart rate up, and the amount of time it stays up is so much…

Are you keeping your ovaries? Keeping the ovaries means that you keep the hormones that you should have, so that you don't go into menopause (Not sure of your age but menopause makes it harder to lose weight, and can cause women to need to work harder to maintain weight). Be sure to follow the doctor's orders for healing…

Basically. Think of it this way, you moved 200lbs of weight 1 mile, it doesn't matter if it took you 20 min or 10 min, you still went 1 mile. The thing about running in the long term is that in theory you can go FARTHER in the same TIME frame, and there for hopefully have time to move that weight more and for a longer…

It might need new tubes in the tires as well. A tune up at a local bike shop isn't very costly and TOTALLY worth it.

Congrats on the beginning! You CAN do this, small changes WILL add up and even only 1lbs a week will suddenly be 10 and then 50 etc. Remember that the first couple weeks you might drop 5 or more pounds a week as you drink more water and cut calorie intake (follow what MFP gives you, there is a deficit built in already for…

Each time you reach a 10lbs lost milestone you get a message "It has been more than 10lbs since you've changed your calorie intake" or something like that and if you agree it readjusts. Otherwise go in and do it manually just by using the guided option, it will recalculate. It's about 50 calories lost every 10lbs, which is…

High protein...how high? I'm doing about 145g of protein a day and don't have those issues BUT I didn't cut out carbs like Atkins either, so I think that's part of it. It's probably more JUST the protein without the necessary carbs we DO need that cause issues. Bad breath is a common side effect of the Atkins diet I know.…

Legs take me about 2 min, when I shave "other" things that takes about 5. But mostly I wax down there so someone else does it LOL.

Go sloooow, run very very very slowly. Most people are bad self regulators so they run too fast and then tire out. The TIME doesn't go faster if you do. Check out jog.fm for ideas on what to look for to listen to to keep your pace. I started at about a 16 min mile (walk/run/walk/run etc) and the music helps.

Well it's empty calories, so I probably have one or two drinks a month, IF that. It's just not worth it to me. IF I have a drink I chose something like a rum and diet coke and just have one. I just don't like the bloated feeling I have after drinking now, and the amount of water I need to drink to flush that makes it…

I own both a treadmill and an elliptical machine. *I* would not go to a gym. I don't have time, or babysitting etc. At home when I have 30-40 min that's all I have, so I can use ALL of it, I don't waste even 5 min driving somewhere. I work out when my son is in bed, after I'm done with class (Nursing student) or when my…

First off, GOOD FOR YOU! But know you don't have to run to be in shape you CAN be in shape "just" walking, Run because you want to not because you think you have too. I started at about 242lbs, I'm 5'7" and could NOT run to begin with, it was too hard on my knees and they hurt, even with great running shoes. So I walked…
