Just popping in and have waaay too much catching up to do, but I was skimming through and wanted to make a comment on the aid station question for @midwesterner85 . By far, my favorite treat during a marathon is orange slices. They are the perfect snack because they taste like heaven at mile whatever and the waste issue is…

Tendinitis is tough to deal with. It often never fully heals, so you just have to learn to manage it the best that you can. Where in your foot is the tendinitis? Do you use orthotics? I have had a metatarsal stress fracture and my doctor recommended orthotics. Because custom ones can be really expensive, she recommended…

I am sorry that I can't help with your question, but I know there is at least one person, probably more, in the "Monthly Running Challenge" group that have dealt with this issue. You may also want to try and post your question there as I am sure she will offer you lots of good info.

It's not really fully light until about 6AM or a little later. My dog doesn't even seem to notice fireworks. On the 4th, my husband and I took her for a walk to the top of our hill where you can see lots of fireworks. They were going off all over the place and she didn't even seem to notice. Nothing much bothers that dog.…

I am working late tonight, so a fast and easy meal of chef's salad: Lettuce, tomato, hard boiled eggs, turkey, ham, cheese and also adding some canned beets because I like them.

We are on the far western part of our time zone, so on July 4th, it usually isn't dark until almost 10pm. Most of the firework shows start at 9:45 or 10, but neighborhood folks shoot them off anytime they feel like, even during the daylight, which is stupid because those things are expensive and that is just a waste.…

I think this may have come across wrong. When I read it back now, it sounds like I was giving horrible advice! I never meant to suggest that you should run with your back to traffic. You should always run with it. Sorry if that created confusion. What I meant is that if you run on a circular path or a track, change your…

400m is a lap around a standard track. If you live anywhere close to a school, you can usually find a track to do this type of workout. It is usually permitted to use the track when school is not in session or it's not being used otherwise, but you might want to check if they have usage rules posted. Most places will keep…

Why not use your hiking pack?

My trainer has me use a Bosu ball to assist. I put it on the floor under the bar. The bar is high enough above my head that I still have to pull myself up, but my toes hit the Bosu ball for a momentum assist on every rep. I just keep raising the height of the bar so that I get less of an assist as I progress.

Yum. Now I want tacos. Wait, I had fish tacos for dinner last night. But that's not the same thing. Wait again, I didn't actually even have fish tacos for dinner last night because I was out of corn tortillas, so technically I just had fish. Not at all the same thing. Now I really need to have tacos...

@MegaMooseEsq - Congrats on your sub 10 mile!! Your BIL is definitely giving you good advice to avoid the sidewalks. In addition to being a harder surface, they also generally have more trip hazards and sometimes decapitation threats from tree limbs. And I believe the word you are looking for is camber. If you run on the…

My pup lies like that all of the time and gives me those eyes. Totally melts my heart.

@Cmorning99- Aw, I definitely know where you are coming from. Moving is tough. Sometimes life just interferes with our best intentions and that can't be helped. Just keep it in your mind that it is a temporary circumstance. It will not set you back to bad as long as it doesn't turn into something more permanent. In the…

July 1- 6 miles, mostly trail July 2- rest day July 3- 6.7 miles 10 X 400s w/ 200 recoveries 12.7/120 miles Early track workout this morning. Left my house at 4:45 to join the group at the track 2 miles away. I love starting my run in the moonlight and finishing up as the sun is rising. I imagine if I did this every day it…

How long have you been running? Do you have a story to share? TL/DR- I have been running for a long time. I trained and got faster, but I find myself longing for the days when I didn't give a crap about my speed. 22 years. Wow. I didn't realize it had been that long, but I started running in 1996 when I lived in Atlanta,…

I am in this month for 120 miles, but my real goal is to just keep up with this thread! I am starting training for marathon #7 at the beginning of November. I have agreed to try and pace a friend to a sub 4, so I am just going to share along with his training plan. The plan calls for 120 miles this month, but I intend to…

@polskagirl01 - Congrats on a great race. I loved reading your race report. Having just run my first trail race (a 10 miler), I completely understand your enthusiasm. I am currently obsessed with running trails!

Lei 5K Friday evening. It's a local 5K with only 189 people running the chipped time race. It was hot as anything. Pace was closer to 10K pace, but the heat must have been a factor for everyone because I finished in 23:29 , which was good for 19th of 189 and 2nd female over all. That was my first overall placement, so I…

The Flying Pig has an unofficial beer mile. I have also been offered mimosas and tequila shots along the course. The Flying Pig is all about the party! (Did I mention there's bacon? This is an official station AND they were smart enough to put it on the only stretch that is an out and back so you get to double up on the…

I'm thinking that might be my problem. The trails I like the best are the more technical ones because I love that feeling of bounding from rock to rock down the hills. I guess my brain tells me it should be easy because, hey, it's downhill. I guess that's probably not the case. Based on all of your replies, I think I might…

Sure, I know that trails are slower than roads. I am definitely not trying to keep my road pace up on the trails. But even at a slow pace, it takes a lot of effort for me to run. I guess I am just wondering if I will ever get to a point where running on the trails can be an easy workout.

Yes, I like the pastas that are made with corn and quinoa. The rice based ones are disgusting mush and the bean ones (chickpeas or lentils) are too gritty.

Thanks for the input. @CSARdriver- I have just started a strength training program twice per week. Heavy weights, low reps, total body. I am doing it on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have been doing my trail runs on Wednesdays and Sundays. I think I might have to switch my trail runs to Thursday based on what @jjpptt2 said. I…

@RunsOnEspresso - I did not catch all of the conversation on the earbuds, but I wanted to chime in because I have super small ears and small size is my number one requirement for purchase. My wired headphones are Yurbuds and they work fine for me with the smallest covers. My husband recently bought me wireless jaybirds for…

@sarahthes- Beautiful garden! When I lived in an apartment I always did herbs, tomatoes and peppers in containers. like you said, it was always very hit or miss. My hubby and I plant a small garden in our yard every year. We always do tomatoes and a variety of peppers and then rotate something else. Last year we did…
