Good luck! What are you racing? Thanks for sharing your stats. I don't know why I find this so interesting, but I do. Interesting that both of us have the least amount of time difference between the 10k and half marathon. If anything, I would have expected this jump to be the biggest because, for most of us, lactate…

Another thing to keep in mind as you progress is that every run is not going to be better, faster, longer, easier, etc. than the last. You will have good days and bad days. All runners have some days when it just isn't there, so don't get discouraged if this happens. Sometimes it's your body's way of telling you to take it…

Looks delicious. Omelets are one of my favorite easy, low cal meals. I load them with veggies and use deli ham or turkey instead of sausage and the calorie count is even lower.

Congrats!! Congrats! That's a great accomplishment. The number one reason why people think they are not cut out for running is because they are trying to run too fast. If you start out slow and just keep at it, your muscles will adapt and require less oxygen to do the work and in time it will get easier and you will get…

I am making a pot of chili because...it's snowing!!

He does hold the world record for a competition marathon with a time of 2:01:39 (Berlin marathon 2018). His intent at the INEOS Challenge was not to set a world record, but to make history as the first human to run a marathon under 2 hours. I am sure that we will see the actual marathon world record go under 2 hours…

My husband is out of town, so I will be making something easy for 1. Probably an omelette with turkey, cheese, spinach and avocado.

My last marathon I had just under 60,000 steps for the whole day. My distance total for the day was 33.7 miles, which included walking to and from the race and then sight seeing around Chicago that evening. By taking my average cadence multiplied by my time, I would estimate that 43,600 of those steps were accumulated…

My treadmill does not even go that fast! It's quite crazy to me. If you watch the mechanics of these runners, their feet nearly hit their butts with every stride. Just try and run like that. It's quite impressive!

@Graymanstole Good luck with your training. Getting to the starting line healthy is half the battle. Wishing you all the best! @ThatJuJitsuWoman That's a great goal. Speedwork should definitely help! I am running Big Sur marathon in April. It's been on my bucket list since I first saw photos of the course scenery in…

When I was younger I thought that the goal was to have as little body fat as possible, but now, at 47, I realize that I actually look better with a little bit of extra weight because my skin has lost some of its elasticity and if I am too thin I look kind of gaunt and tired. That said, I work really hard to preserve my…

Husband: Stella, time to take your Trifexix (monthly flea med). Stella:

These oatmeal lace cookies (without the chocolate) are like a chewy honey wafer. I have used them for fuel in a race before when I was having stomach issues and I found the combination of carbs to be very satisfying and easy to eat. Maybe worth a try, even if not for a race (they are quite a tasty cookie!)…

I ran a marathon this past weekend and Garmin said I burned 1328 calories. My total burn for the day was 3110 calories which accounts for the 7 additional miles of walking I did that day (33.2 miles total for the day). My Garmin data has proven to be pretty reliable based on my logging. Stinks to be short and old.

These were my go-to in the 90s and early 2000s. I still pull them out every now and then. They are very effective workouts!

@7Lenny7 Great bling!! Congrats on the PR. You have been through a lot in the past year. Glad to see you are making a strong come back!! My bling from Chicago is just a finisher's medal. No PR, but I did come within 30 seconds of it, which makes me happy because I ran that PR 4 years ago. Also very proud of my negative…

I am in E. So far, weather is looking promising, although maybe a little windy (go figure). Have you run Chicago before? This is my first time. I am wondering if the urban course and the crowds will help make the wind a non-issue.

I have had trouble with my Garmin optical HRM and cadence lock. Wearing it tighter on my wrist has helped eliminate the problem. I am curious if that is actually what you are dealing with here. When you HR goes that high, does it feel like it has increased? Are you finding it difficult to breathe? It is natural for your…

Awesome job! Top 20%!

Good luck @7lenny7 and @T1DCarnivoreRunner ! I am also racing Chicago this weekend. Would love to PR, but I am leaving it up to the race gods to decide how I feel on Sunday. My main goal is to have a good time, so if I am not feeling it, I will lay low and enjoy the crazy atmosphere that I heard makes Chicago so awesome!

This! You are out there doing it, which is what really matters. I have the deepest admiration for the slowest runners in my running group because they are consistently out there doing it. Many of us are slower than we used to be because of things like age and injury, which makes for an easy excuse to quit. I am much more…

I made these honey chipotle chicken tacos in the crock pot the other day and they were delicious. You can make a large batch of the seasoning mix so that she only has to add a scoop of mix, some honey and chicken to the crock pot and let it go. You can substitute paprika for the chipotle if you don't want the spice and I…

My mother is an older widow and not in good health. I live 5 hours away, so I feel like I can't help her out very much, so when I make things that freeze well and are easy for her to eat, I portion them into single servings and freeze them. When I go to visit, I arrive with a cooler full of healthy, nutritious meals for…

I had never heard of a farmers walk (until I just Googled it), but I do know that when I waited tables in college and I spent hours walking around carrying heavy trays, I had some serious guns! Currently I am in my late 40s and I have to lean towards functional exercises as my answer to this. I am a runner and, while I…

Aww, so cute. And I love the name!

If you are just starting out, and even beyond that, until you have established a solid aerobic base (which can take years), the duration of your run is going to have a much bigger impact than your speed. The longer you can run, the better. So, of course, you are going to want to run slowly because you will be able to run…

I have a Petzel head lamp as well. I wear it around my chest because I find I can angle the light better and it also doesn't slip. Sometimes I just carry it in my hand. I am thinking about getting a pair of knuckle lights. I also wear a Nox gear vest. They are kind of pricey but I run in the dark enough that I figured it…

Most typical marathon training programs are 16-18 weeks long, including your taper. My advice would be to find a plan you like and start it the appropriate number of weeks before your race. Things to look for when choosing a plan include:* How many days per week you want to run- Plans can range anywhere from 3-7 days per…

It could be any of those things. Are you eating in a deficit or do you keep tight control on your sodium intake? Fluids and electrolytes are very important. Sometimes people who have been in weight loss mode over restrict their sodium intake when they start running. Runners need salt and potassium because your body loses…

As a veteran runner of 20+ years, I have literally run tens of thousands of miles in my lifetime. All I can say about the legendary "Runner's High" is that it's elusive, like a Yeti. Sometimes you might only catch glimpses of it, and you are not going to see it on every run, but you're definitely most likely to encounter…
