I have the opposite problem. With a 1290 calorie diet for 155lb woman, it sets my target at 47 grams protein. Ridiculously low.

Success here. I don't do "clean" eating and my only goal is to stay under my calorie goal. Making room for treats is part of what's kept me sane.

For the most part I don't and I think that's part of what has allowed me to be successful this time. I don't spend near as much time logging every tiny thing. I tend to use very little water and undercook it. Requires more chewing. Another alternative is to go to the other extreme and make it much more water/milky so that it's soupy, not mushy.
