You need to plan better. Add in some protein shakes - pack one in a cooler and drink it as you're leaving the gym. Take higher calorie snacks to work with you. Start a meal in the crockpot so it's ready when you get home. It's all about planning. And if you want results, you'll make planning a priority.

All of this. Carbs are a great source of quick energy and they taste great too.

^This. I *thought* I knew what 2T of PB looked like. I was way, way wrong. Turns out, I was probably using double what I thought. That's an extra 200 cals a day. And if you consider that I was doing this with all my other foods, that's a major problem. Weighing and measuring literally takes an extra 5 minutes in my day.…

What is your motivation behind this? Weight loss? Health?

No cereal will produce magic weight loss. Weight loss is about eating less calories than you burn. So, any cereal that you like and can make fit into your calorie goal will be the "best kind of cereal."

This. Make a new routine on the weekends. What's more important to you? Having too many drinks or getting the body you want? If your body is your priority, you'll stop your current habits and find new ones. I'm not saying people should have a drink now and then, or that you shouldn't eat what you want. I'm just saying you…

^This. Edit to add that a personal trainer and a lifting coach may or may not be the same thing. The average commercial gym trainer might not have much in the way to offer your son. A coach might be able to offer more. It's something to consider depending on how serious your son is about lifting.

I wear Chuck Taylor's for squatting and deadlifting. Squat shoes aren't in the budget right now, but I got a pair of Chucks for $25. And I agree that video would be helpful.

Weight machines exist for the same reason that every other machine exists. Someone wanted an "easier" way of doing something that they perceived to be hard. You know what's hard? Traveling 8 hours on horseback or by wagon. That's why we now have cars - to make traveling easier. You know what else was hard? Washing clothing…

Life just isn't fair.

So jealous. My lowest weight was 8lbs, 6oz. You're so lucky to be naturally small like that.

Why do you feel you need gluten and/or wheat free bread? Have you been diagnosed with gluten intolerance?

There certainly are body weight routines you can do. Nerd Fitness has some good ones (I've been told) and you could look into Convict Conditioning or You Are Your Own Gym. Free weights are typically preferred because they produce results faster. I would imagine that when you are traveling, you could find a local gym with…

No one can provide you with motivation. You either want to change badly enough to do something you know you need to do......or you don't. I spent the first several months of trying to lose weight getting up at 4am to workout. I didn't want to, I just did it. It got me in the habit of making exercise a priority. Now, there…

Ok, her arms look like that because of low body fat percentage and a lot of time spent training. You still have a lot of weight left to lose, so that will not happen in the couple of months that you try to increase your strength to prepare for this race. Also, building muscle requires a calorie surplus and appropriate…

Those women are on a program. That's the first place to start. Pick a lifting program - Strong Lifts, Starting Strength, New Rules of Lifting, etc. The program tells you how much to lift (number of sets and reps) and what exercises to do on what days. The only thing you have to figure out are your starting numbers. It's ok…

Once again, I think it would be beneficial to see an example of what you would like to end up looking like and what you would like to avoid.

A burrito bowl with white rice, black beans, steak, pico, corn salsa, medium salsa and cheese. And my husband and I split a bag of chips. I love Chipotle. I probably eat there once a week.

I refuse to give up anything. I'm not going to be one of those people freaking out and wringing their hands because the extended family wants to go to Olive Garden and "Oh my goodness, what can I even eat from there??????" Uhhh, no. Pasta, potatoes, rice, cake, candy, cookies, ice cream, etc. - it has all stayed in my…

Repeating this. Sometimes popcorn makes me happy. Sometimes cereal makes me happy. Sometimes strawberries with whipped cream or a banana smore make me happy. I make sure that the food I'm eating throughout the day meets my nutritional needs. Then, it's not a big deal to eat whatever I want at night. Also, meal timing has…

This thread is complete nonsense. Everyone knows Pop Tarts are better.

No, that's just my opinion. I prefer a man who is confident in himself and therefore doesn't worry about what an "opinion poll" of other people's preference might say. That's my preference. A guy who doesn't worry about that kind of stuff.
-
I prefer men who don't have to ask this kind of question.

Yes, but it's about prioritizing and making the most of the time you do have. My workout time and social life often overlap each other. My friends and I run, go to spin class, and go rock climbing together instead of going shopping or grabbing a drink. I write out a workout schedule and plan exactly what I'm going to do…

Why do you think you need to do carb loading?

You can't spot reduce. The only thing you can do to get rid of the fat on your midsection is to keep losing weight and/or reducing your body fat percentage. Core exercises will strengthen your muscles *under* the fat, which will make your midsection look good when you lose the fat. But, they won't burn the fat away…
