  • My dog was in a commercial once. Does that count? I don't log his calories. That a-hole can eat anything he wants without gaining a pound. I think he's sabotaging me.
  • Fair enough. I wasn't trying to suggest that anyone jump right into Wendler either. Sorry if I wasn't more clear.
  • I get what you're saying, but I'm selfish and I refuse to give up either one. So, I'll use Wendler to make it work for me. I wouldn't recommend that someone start off with Wendler, but I also wouldn't consider myself a beginner. I did Strong Lifts for 6 months. My form is on point. I get adequate nutrition. I've read…
  • I run. Therefore I am a runner. I don't think we need a certain speed or number of miles in order to be considered a runner.
  • I started on it - it was great. My only issue was that, because I run as well, squatting every session started bothering my knee once my weights got up there (with lighter weights, it was no problem). I recently switched to Wendler 5/3/1 because of that. However, I think Strong Lifts was the best way to get into weight…
  • They don't work at spot reducing fat. Crunches simply exercise your ab muscles. You may be making your muscles stronger, but you are not burning fat from your midsection by doing them. Maintain a calorie deficit and lose weight. You will lose fat from your stomach (it may be the last area to go, but it will go eventually).
  • You know what works well for getting rid of a large belly? Losing weight. Seriously, that's all it takes. So, all you need to do is keep losing weight and/or reducing your body fat percentage and you can go from floppy belly to flat stomach. Not the world's best example, but I'm sure you can see the rolls and flab around…
  • My last pair was Brooks Ghost 5. I loved those shoes!! Now, I'm alternating between a pair of Mizuno Wave Rider 16 and Newton Gravity.
  • Me too. And I like to take advice from the people who seem to post a lot of information, supported by scientific studies. And who have hot bodies and/or have achieved their weight loss goals.
  • Also agree.
  • I would strongly suggest getting fitted. It was the best thing I ever did for my feet.
  • There's nothing you can do except keep losing weight. You'll lose the fat there eventually.

  • If you think that your calf muscles are refusing to let you exercise because they don't want to get bigger - you're wrong. The fact is, your body just isn't used to exercise. And you're probably wearing bad shoes and/or using bad form and/or trying to do too much too soon. If you lose weight, your calves will get smaller.…
  • You really put entirely too much stock into what other people think of you. I've seen multiple threads that you've created where you complain about something that someone said to you. You can't control other people, you can only control your reaction to it. Why are you letting all of this bother you so much?
  • Deadlifts. Nothing beats that rush of pulling x-number-of-pounds off the floor. Squats are a pretty close second.
  • Nope, there isn't. Eat when it feels best for you.
  • ^What she said. Also, if you are serious about running and intend to keep doing it, I would recommend: 1. Getting fitted for shoes at a running specialty store. The right shoes make all the difference. 2. Doing cross training - whether it be yoga, swimming, strength training, spinning, etc. Cross training helps. 3. Sign up…
  • Well, I would suggest slowing down and working at your own pace for starters. A new program can kick your butt sometimes, especially if you aren't used to physical exertion. But exercise does make it harder to breathe, it can make your muscles "burn". If you're doing too much, it can make you sick to your stomach or feel…
  • This. You don't get super muscular on accident. Especially not while still being overweight and eating in a calorie deficit. Two or three years from now, when you've lost the weight, lowered your body fat percentage significantly and started eating at (or closer to) maintenance, you can have concerns about body…
  • Don't cold stretch. That's not a good idea. A warm up walk is all you need.
  • There's nothing you can do except continue to lose weight and decrease your body fat percentage. We all hold/carry our weight in different ways and that affects how we lose the weight as well. Your stomach fat may be some of the last to go. You can't change that - just be aware and keep working towards your goal. Specific…
  • This is the tip you need to re-read.
  • Fat doesn't make you fat. Excess calories make you fat. Fat is essential. It helps your brain and organs function. You don't need to go low fat to lose weight. All you need is a moderate calorie deficit, time, and a little patience. Worked for me (see ticker).
  • 1. Warm up before running (maybe a 5 minute walk) 2. Get fitted for shoes at a running specialty store 3. Slow down Honestly, when I made the transition, it just sucked for a couple of weeks. Running outside is harder. I was using my legs in a different way, and I didn't have the treadmill to help move me forward. I just…
  • Sit ups aren't going to give you abs. They're fine for strengthening your core, but they aren't going to produce a 6pack.
  • I would get in a light run if you feel like it. I've run while on vacation and it gave me energy for the walking we did (of course, it wasn't Disney level walking, but touring downtown San Antonio did require some hoofing it). A friend of mine was sidelined by the flu for a week before a race and still managed to come back…
  • I haven't because of the line on the box that says "may cause anal leakage." I'm not going to use any product that may result in spontaneous diarrhea or other things I can't control.
  • This. I love pizza. If I want to have pizza, I only have 2 slices instead of a whole pie. I eat a lighter lunch that day, maybe a salad topped with shredded chicken. I'll make sure my snacks are protein heavy so I can hit that macro goal. Then, pizza becomes no problem. It's about balancing your choices without depriving…
