  • Aside from general exercise changes like lower body fat you can probably expect tighter glutes, quads, hamstrings and calves. While that's a good thing (since we all want a beach butt!) gotta be sure you're stretching out after, otherwise you risk injury in training. You'll likely continue to find daily stuff easier to do,…

  • Most body weight pressups in one minute: 70 Most crunches in one minute:63 Most bodyweight squats before I had to stop: 118 Quickest to ever run a mile: 5mins 30 Fastest 10k time: 51 minutes Longest time holding "the plank" on a gym ball: 4 minutes 18 seconds Shortest time to be knocked out in competition: 1minute 28…
  • Yes, you are correct. Taking it to it's logical conclusion, when there is no excess, the body eats away at its own fuel reserves, whilst trying to hold on to everything it can. It can't hold on to anything because it's all being used, and there is still a deficit. Then we get into the nasty territory where muscle is used…
  • Then I welcome your correction, but still maintain that, if you are couting Taloe as fat, it is still fat in its own right. Not necessarily "bad" fat, but fat nonetheless.

  • I'm afraid that's inaccurate. Simply being a wild animal does not prevent it storing fat. Hippopotami are wild, and are fat. You are howver correct in stating it's a leaner cut of meat with less fat, and venison in moderation is generally a better form of meat that beef. But beef is not altogether unhealthy, nor is fat.
  • Many have argued this for a long time saying walking for an hour burns the same calories as running for an hour. I say cr*p to that. The treadmill says me that when I did sprints for ten minutes after a 5 minute warmup I burn the same calories as a light job for fifteen minutes. It's nonsense. Since calories are a measure…
  • An active body requires more calories. If it is undernourished, which can occur by eating crap or not enough, it will try to hold on to every calorie it can. It gets used to needing lots of calories because it's always working. When it doesn't get enough it holds on to everything it can to compensate, by storing. This is…
  • Thank you, it's nice to be noticed
  • Yup (Lentils + vegetable stock + onions+ celery + carrots) over a hot stove for 45 minutes= epic lentil soup. Add some wholemeal or poppyseed bread and you're winning. Also, this looks AMAZING http://www.channel4.com/food/recipes/quick-suppers/fillets-of-sea-bass-on-provencal-lentils-recipe_p_1.html Yes there's double…
  • Ha ha totally wouldn't! The worst is, I had it long, down to the small of my back until March last year! I can't see the Metallica look going down well in the Court lol
  • Yeah they're both me, the one in the suit is most recent from my 21st birthday, June last year. The other is from around three years ago. I had crazy blue manga hair then!
  • Meatloaf, good call! One of the best gigs I ever went to was his farewell tour in Glagow SECC I digress. I keep Meatloaf for bombing about in my car like a bat out of hell lol
  • Arias, loving it! I was a classical pianist before Uni got in the way, muchos respect for being able to do that. Anyone else hate the gym's in house radio? We get total cheesey pop all the time. Last week we had that song from flashdance followed by Girls Just Wanna Have fun. Suddenly I didn't feel so macho anymore when I…
  • Have a sandwich. But make it yourself. 2 slices wholemeal bread. Rocket or lettuce Sliced tomato Black pepper Some lean meat, like grilled chicken or turkey. Avoid packets of sliced as the curing process adds a lot of salt and potentially harmful nitrates, or so I've read in journals. Maybe grill the night before, leave to…
  • So, what do we listen to at the gym to get us in the mood and push us to do better each time? I'll start  For treadmill warmup it's usually something like the Training Montage from Rocky IV or Hearts Burst Into Fire (Bullet for my Valentine) or some techno/trance. Something I can focus on and get into my own zone…
  • I noticed it. The simple fact is food regulates your mood. Sugar and caffeine are stimulants so you'll be hyper if you eat them. It's deeper than that though. If you eat a huge meal, the body diverts its focus to digesting it. So it won't want you to use that energy for doing something else. So you'll feel tired. Food has…
  • Yes, yes and yes. There's no quick fix. No easy road. Self discipline is the only way. But, by the same token, every journey of 1,000 miles begins with the first step. So whilst we should be strict we should not berate one another for falling off the road once in a while. So long as the falling is accompanied by, "I know…
  • To quote Sly Stallone: "All it is is loads of protein and lifting heavy things three times a week" So, here's a quick guide that I give my students. Eat more protein, and more calories. You need to be consuming more than you're burning for size. That can mean up to 3,000 per day. Olymipc athlete can eat up to 6,000…

  • Only two words for that amount of progress. Epic win. Well done!
  • I carry cereal bars or protein bars when I'm about, just in case I need to eat and there's nothing decent around. When I find myself near a McDonalds I just remember being on their website and finding quarter pound with cheese meal is near 1,000 calories and 48g fat! Don't know if you've got them where you are, but Pret A…
  • Depends whether it allows to input your bodyweight or not. Most of the calorie calculators are pretty crap anyway. Example: my treadmill routine is usually 5 minute warmup at 7.5pmh, then 45 seconds at 12mph then a 1min 30s rest at 8mph, for ten minutes. The counter on the machine told me that burned 218 calories. Last…
  • March 2008. I was ready for a pro fight in Muay Thai Long story short I got kicked in the jaw with a shin and stayed down for too long. University kicked in, with dissertations and coursework. Started working 7 days a week, 2 jobs. Ate whatever I could find in the freezer. Chips/pizzas and stuff. Stopped going to the gym.…
  • I hate to be so glib. But if your doctor told you to cut back on exercise (or anything for that matter) and wasn't specific enough, go back and ask him! Take your training schedule to him and tell him (or her) "You told me to cut back. This is what I do. What do you want me to cut back on?" You're paying for it either…
  • Glasgow, in Scotland!
  • If you're doing more aerobic than anaerobic i.e cardio than muscular workouts then the protein shakes are probably not the best way forward. Your diet should provide most of protein and to be honest it's only those who are training rigorously for performance or muscle definition that need them. Protein is essential for…
  • I'm glad to share any knowledge I have. I'm new here but I assume there's a user-user profile messaging service? Just so we don't get off topic and upset the forum:tongue:
  • I have a lot of respect for BJJ. I see it as the ground-fighting Yin to Muay Thai's standup striking Yang. I suppose this is why many MMA fighters combine them for competitions. I'm glad I defy convention, but I owe a lot of that to my master Kru Johnston. His Kru was Arjarn Master Sken, so unlike many karate, TKD and…
  • Absolutely not! This technique is a western misinterpretation of a Thai practice. In rural areas Thais will kick banana trees repeatedly. The bark gets softer and more pliable as it is struck and is thereafter used to fashion pads and so on for kicking. The problem with bamboo is it's not forgiving, and will not make bones…
  • Bike rides? Playing tag or frisbee with them? Anything that involves getting outside and running about like a loony! Take them to a zoo or theme park or similar, they're a great way to exercise since you'll be walking around all day. According to this calculator on MFP, 3 hours of walking is around 500 calories.
