  • I think that's where my bingeing problems first started. When I was a child mum never acted like she loved me - or even liked me for that matter - yet my sister was showered with affection and attention. Mum would take my sister out for the day and leave me home with a bag of sweets (candy). i think over time I associated…

  • I think it's wonderful that you have so much isight into why you binge. For me, I'm still trying to figure out what emotion it is that I'm using food to cover up! I'll get there, it's just taking some time. I recently looked into OA but couldn't find a group near me, which is why I tried to get some friends on MFP who…
  • Just noticed this - couldn't agree more! This coming from somebody who has poor quality of life because of her weight...
  • I have been on lots of cruises and the one thing that sticks out to me is the waste. You know...the "pile it high and doesn't matter if you waste it" philosophy. That bugs me. I'd ratehr somebody went back to the buffet table than waste food. Me? Despite being morbidly obese, even I have a limit. I think it's unfair to…
  • The under eating thing is definitely a big one, but it's the one I struggle with the most with my all-or-nothing personality. I have always beat myself up after a binge by not eating for 24-48 hours and then I'd binge (of course!). It's only now that I've actually understood that I have always set myself up for failure.…

  • Yep, I'm in Yorskhire :) 7kg down - about 80 to go :(
  • I lost 6.5 stone on Weightwatchers but gained it back over 3 years. It worked great while I stuck to it, but I found that I just couldn't stick to it long term. I know it's a healthy eating plan (and it is) but because I knew the points, when I'd exceeded etc it all became too rigid. I found it was counter-productive…

  • I bought some scales for weighing "extra heavy" people and guess what, I only JUST get a reading. I'm not about 10kg under but I was very nearly off the scale when I started. Yep, makes you feel great doesn't it? The only thing I can add really is to try being kinder to yourself. Thinking of yourself as a heifer really…
  • I have definitely identified some triggers - like being upset about something, having conflict with soembody, boredom, going a while without food is also a huge trigger that I learnt only last week! I am managing, about half of the time, to recognise the triggers and prevent them but yesterday I binged for no apparent…
  • Brown rice or brown pasts is nice with chilli - I much prefer brown pasta actually! The brown rice tastes quite different and is kind of chewy and take a LOT longer to cook, but it has a nicer texture in my opinion and definitely keeps you fuller for longer. Try it :)
  • I have about 170 pounds to lose so I understand the enormous task ahead - but you can do this. You have my support x
  • I'm in West Yorks :)
  • I wouldn't say I've given up anything forever! Forever is a really long time. How I have done this before is abstain for a few months - enough to get out of the habit - then reintroduce infrequently an din small quantities. I have zero self ocntrol normally but find that works. For me it's all about habit and compulsion.
  • I wouldn't go so far as to say your BF is an effing idiot because without being behind your walls I can't see what he's really like. If it was my husband I couldn't blame him for saying or thinking the same thing, but I'd use it as a reason to show him he's wrong. This time, I have told my husband I want to lose a bight of…
  • I'm from Yorkshire too - feel free to add me. I think rather than us being behind it's often a case that the recipe just names things differently - Google's your friend on this one :) Best of luck with it x
  • Hang on, hang on...you said the only thing stopping you is your plateau, but then you say you've been on and off the wagon. So doesn't that explain your plateau? If you've plateau'd by hopping on and off the wagon then I'd say there's hope because you've clearly learnt something. You must have done something right…
  • Not sure about this time as I gues sit changes over time. It's 6 years since I last lost a significant amount of weight. At that time though it was midriff, chest and then everywhere else. This time, I've only lost 14 pounds so far, but it seems to be going from my midriff again. Good - I can almost see the end of my toes…
  • Maybe a change of perspective might help? He sounds just like my husband! He's lovely but just eats all the time which puts me off - and it's not like he doesn't have weight to lose. This is how I deal with it.... If I cook a healthy meal and he's not interested I say "fine, I'll take the rest to work, you can make your…
  • I tried it and lasted only a day before I realised that fad diets are not for me. I go for a diet now which doesn't exclude anything but have everything in moderation. On the plus side, i did like those Dukan pancakes! Have you tried them yet?
  • I have the same philosophy! My previous diets didn't work because my approcah was "all or nothing". How ever did I think I could go the rest of my life without all of the things I love? Heck I couldn't even manage a month and it's no wonder. Now I have little bits of everything - it's all about portion control...and it's…
  • I must admit, i've often wondered the same thing; I hate exercise right now. I do think I may enjoy it when it's not such a monumental effort though! For now, I try to get my exercise in ways that are meaningful and productive for me -like gardening and cleaning. At my weight it doesn't take much to get me hot and out of…
  • So...here's a thought...instead of thinking you've ruined 4 binge free weeks...why not think "I manged a whole 4 weeks in between binges - wow"? Seriously, you've done great to go so long and that needs celebrating! I'm desperately trying to overcome binge eating and one thing that's really working for me this time is…
  • Once when I was doing a lot of exercise I stopped losing weight - eating some of the exercise calories helped boost the weight loss for me. Under normal circumstances I'd use the exercise calories to boost the weight loss though. This was just one of those things where I'd plateaud and couldn't get out of it.
  • A book I'm reading at the moment explains that binge eating disorder is the only eating disorder which affects men as much as women. Whether you believe everything you read is another matter (personally, I'm not sure what the scientific basis was for that statement in the book). What I can say is that I do know men in my…

  • I use driclor alternate days (every days makes my skin a bit sore). It works really well on me, lasts a long tme and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I put it on at night because it absorbs better when you're not sweaty - and just use regular deoderant on the alternate day (more for my own peace of mind really).

  • Love this one...it's so true!
  • Feel free to add me. I', 36 from UK and battling binge eating. On my third week and really needing support now. Willing to offer support back too! Best of luck with it :)
  • I would imagine the best thing is to replace your soda habit with a healthier one...so find another healthier drink that you like? I don't know, a diet soda addiction is the last thing on my mind LOL. Good luck though :)
  • Offering you a virtual hug. I have struggled with binge eating for over 10 years and secret eating for years before that. Only now am I getting on top of it. The thing that helped for me this time is to focus on the good instead of the bad. So instead of focusing on that binge I just had, I now focus on the fact that I ate…
