I used the Couch to 5k (C25K) program on Active.com. You can friend them on facebook to find out more info. I literally went from the couch to running a 5 k comfortably in 6 weeks!

C25K is an awesome program and I ran my first 5k 2 weekends ago because of it. Stay the course, it's so worth it.

I try to eat at least the 1200 to keep my metabolism up. But I try not to eat the extra that I burn when I work out so I can lose weight faster.
