  • Shawshank Redemption Did I miss the round for The Godfather?
  • I have a new Polar F7 HRM and when I enter the numbers from working out they pretty much line up with what MFP calculators guess. Only in jogging do I actually burn more and have to log more jogging time than I actually did. Gah, dumb auto-correct changed a word on me.
  • I'm down almost 40lbs now and I don't think my preferences have changed any. I am a bit hornier these days with all this extra energy and greater flexibility so I gotta keep that in check
  • My numbers have been honest but I don't put up any pics because I've never liked any pics of myself, yet alone pics of me before my goal weight. I'm probably not the only person here to put up decent numbers and not offer visual proof..... just a thought.
  • Salt gets me too. Switching from cheddar to swiss cheese has helped me lots. As well as tweaking oatmeal with my own additions (as opposed to buying pre-flavored packets). And yes, I too will get 3-5lbs in weight swings if go over on my sodium the day before my weekly weigh-in.
  • High Fructose Corn Syrup is chemically different than glucose/lactose/sucrose/etc., but is allowed to be listed on the nutrition label as sugar. High Fructose Corn Syrup is some nasty stuff that needs to be avoided. Yes, you will get your "sugar high" from hfcs but your liver doesn't know what to with it other than make is…
  • Keep on the weights, they will up your metabolism (which runs 24/7) whereas cardio machines won't up it at all. Just remember you didn't put the weight on in only one month, it will take longer than one month to burn it off. Keep at it, you can do it :)
  • I just watched the video, first time I've heard/seen anything about the whole "sugar is a poison" debate. I've never studied biochemistry but I think I fully understood the message. I work in a grocery store here in Washington state and I would agree that its already overweight kids that buy gatorade when they play a…
  • Hrm, I don't have enough time for a 90 min video tonight. So I'm bumping it for now
  • Male 33 yo 5'11" SW: 235 CW: 201 GW: 180ish I would like to hear from other people in the same boat. All my co-workers have quit and I need somebody to hold me accountable
  • Two days ago I had a realization of my own, that pizza isn't natures best asprin for whenever I have a grueling day at work. I actually took just four IB profrins and went to bed feeling just fine. Now I just need to fight that boredom/hunger feeling issue
  • Nice transformation! I'm trying to get there myself, can you recommend some literature/exercises/foods for a guy who is currently about at your half way point? I'm 5"11 and 201 lbs. I look ok with my shirt on but am seeing only minimal progress with my abs and mid-section in general
  • More specifically lentils and red/navy/lima/pinto beans. Be careful though, too much and you'll get gassy
  • I just bought the series, and have a Polstar F7 hrm. Due to a freak shoulder injury from work I haven't started the series, just ab ripper, cardio x, and kenpo. I burn ~420cal with the cardio x, 380cal with the kenpo, and 120cal with the ab ripper. I burn more calories on the machines for same time frame. These disks leave…

  • I have the same view as missprincessj. I put in your numbers and your BMR is about 300 calories higher than what you are eating; so when you do have your splurge day your body is probably like "sweet! fuel! Lets store these calories because I've been running dangerously low these last five months" And, from MY past…
  • The only cheese I allow myself is Swiss, it seems to be only 40-80mg per slice, as opposed to cheddar (320mg+). All others I've looked at are in the 150-200mg range. Swiss is more expensive but it works for me.
  • Yeah, honeycrisp apples are pretty tasty but equally as expensive. My normal go-to apple is Jonagold. It is seasonal but even when it is out of season its still cheaper than the honeycrisps
  • I only have some measuring cups, I think what has best helped me with portion control (though I'm only 3 months into this) is drinking a liter of water with my 300-500 calorie snacks. It has been helping me to control my weekend splurges knowing that I don't need to clean my plate in order to get full. The last few…
  • My approach to cheese is that, "it is good, in moderation". Yes, it does have good protein and calcium nutrients, but most cheese has a lot of salt in it (except swiss). As long as you don't go over in your sodium intake I say enjoy some.
  • I have the P90X, I found it too difficult when I weighed 220lbs. Every time I did a disk my muscles and joints were in pain for 3-4 days afterwards; not a nice muscle burn, but pain. I have been doing side jogging and using my rowing machine with the occasional P90X Cardio X disk. I will give it another try when I get…
  • This site has been working well for me. My two cents is to follow the tools on here. The creators of the website seem to subscribe to the KISS method and, after three hours of independent number crunching and formula research, I've found the calculators here work fine. Just be honest with your diary
  • @jcperkns I'm in the same boat as you. I've lost 32 lbs so far but dropped only 1 pant size. I can see and feel the weight-loss in my face/arms/legs, but my thighs and waistline isn't really moving :( We just gotta keep at it I guess
  • Brooke, you need to keep in mind your daily multiplier. You burn other calories a day making breakfast, brushing your teeth, deciding which clothes to wear, general walking around house/work/school, washing off your dinner plate, etc. It is basically all the other things I just listed that will put you at a daily calorie…
  • I have had pretty good success with this website so far, going by is recommended calorie amount I've dropped 31lbs so far. I did spend a few hours on other websites to verify my BMR, and the daily activity multiplier, and sure enough the numbers lined up and the pounds have been dropping. The creators of this website seem…
  • Thanks for the feedback all. I could stand to drink more water I guess. I haven't had my BP measured since I started; I'll make it a point to get it checked soon. I normally do workout first thing in the morning, trying to force myself to burn fat and then eat 500-700 calories immediately after for breakfast. (My meals are…
  • I have a heart rate monitor and I have found my experience to be similar to the others posted; after my interval/pulse (I'm jogging/sprinting in this particular case) I would burn about an extra 10% more calories in the lingering hours, BUT I am left super tired when my body finally does slow down later in the day and my…
  • Now that I'm a little older I don't get quite as competitive/jealous when I see others with a better physique then mine. I know that my body has some inherent limits and that trying to push past those limits is equal parts painful and foolish. If you have a clean bill of health then I don't see any reason why you shouldn't…
  • @bridetobe, Yeah, the cost of food is kinda annoying but I am feeling so much better these days so I don't complain too much. Eating this healthier diet has given me more energy; I no longer feel the need for power-naps on my days off from work. I could easily bring the price back down a bit from buying regular produce…
  • Ditto. I went from a cheap Jack Lelane juicer to a Breville and I started getting almost double the juice back. You can make decent fruit-based smoothies with the cheaper ones but you won't be able to properly juice greens; its just kinda how it is :-/
  • I've never heard of an exercise physiologist, I'll look one up later today. I have localized DDD in my L4 vertebra and most all my pain stems from the swollen disk between the L4 and L5 vertebras. My back has been ok for the better part of the last 5 years. It took me the first 5 years of on-my-own methods to see what…
