  • I started lifting about 7 weeks ago--- First 4 weeks were a modified version of Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe (google!) Focus was on learning the lifts, getting form right and starting with low weight adding each session , 3 sets of 5 reps. Alternating workouts A and B for three workouts a week: A. Squat Standing…
  • I eat a lot of Fat Free Greek Yogurt-- 1 cup has 120 calories and 22 grams of protein, that's better than my protein powder! And *chic peas*.... are those the ones from Paris? Ooh La La! :o)
  • Totally a hugger. On my business card, at the bottom it says "Free Hugs Upon Request" (seriously, it really does.) And I don't go for that one-armed crap. Both arms, baby. ......................................... BUT: please, no high-fiving! I get like high five PTSD. Fist bump if you must, but no high fives with me. Hugs…
  • Just got home from grocery shopping and prepping some veggies for the week. So nice to return to some lovely encouragement! Thanks, you guys!
  • Hi there, Just lurking a bit on MFP again after being away for a while and I'm so happy to see the groups! I'm a fabric designer, craft book author, blogger, painter, graphic artist, jewelry maker, visual journaller etc, etc pretty much like most of you, anything I can get my hands on! I live on Cape Cod and just got…
  • ---seeing cats in windows when I am out for a walk or run ---seeing a dog's head out the window of a car and how blissed out they look ---my fiance being incredibly silly and making me laugh ---the smell of coffee ---long hot showers ---swimming in the ocean in late summer when the water is really warm ---seeing a rainbow,…
  • Bikram lover here! But I have practiced a bunch of kinds over the last 20 years. Please feel free (any of y'all) to add me as a pal!
  • I'm the youngest of four, but now there are three of us since my only brother committed suicide 2 years ago. We weren't close. One sister I get a long with ok and the other I avoid as much as possible!
  • I love Bikram. I once wore my HRM and it came in at 500 calories burned for the 90 minutes. I'm 5'2" and roughly 135 lbs. Hope that helps! (any yogis, please feel free to add me as a friend!)
  • mturner25, thanks for the suggestion on the pushups! I will try that next time! I didn't do the shred yesterday because of my knees and ankles being sore the last few days. The last thing I want is to injure myself and have to take a real break! I was talking to my sweetie about it and he reminded me that my sneakers are…
  • Hi, all! Today was Day 7 of Level One. I definitely feel my cardio endurance improving and some of the strength moves have me needing more weight to feel challenged--- yay! But. (Not really asking for advice, just something I'm keeping my eye on:) Today and yesterday I am noticing 'sensation' in my knees and ankles. Not…
  • hartsmart, ha! ( I am her friend that joined) and thanks for the reminder about wall pushups. I had forgotten about those. Will try that tomorrow. So today was Day 6 of Level 1 for me. My honey has done it with me for three days, too! I hope he keeps it up because when we do it together it's done by 7 am. That is a great…
  • Just finished Day 5, Level 1! It's an intense little 20 minutes , isn't it?! As a longtime yoga practitioner, I am always concerned with proper form and alignment but in this type of workout I am tempted to just struggle through the hard parts with bad form! But I really don't want to hurt myself and have to take a break,…
  • Crystleen, thanks for mentioning Me First and The Gimme gimmes! I am a cover hound and have never heard of them! Sweettart, You might like some of the songs on this other music thread : http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/115315-post-your-playlist Here is what I posted over there: I recently made a Very Silly Playlist.…
  • I just got the Polar FT4 which I found online for $70. I don't have much experience with it yet, ,but I like it so far!
  • Dude, you look amazing! So handsome! I checked out your flickr. So right there with you on comic sans/ papyrus and I love your I Just Want To Go Home design. Adding you to my flickr contacts! melissa
  • flattsfan22, I am definitely doing additional stuff. I run, take zumba classes, pilates and bikram yoga. I think someone could probably get great benefits just from the shred, but I know I need more. melissa
  • I love this kind of thing. I want to read the whole thread before I post my stuff, so I am bookmarking it for later in the day. melissa
  • Today was day 4 of 30 Day Shred for me and I tried out my new heart rate monitor. I am 5' 2" and weigh 134 and it says I burned 156 calories. How do you like the BFBM video? i was just looking at reviews of it last night. melissa
  • Just finished Day 4. My honey even did it with me today. He stuck it out though and he doesn't even workout! He keeps saying he wants to and since this video is only 20 minutes, he wanted to join me for the challenge. I am trying to get him to modify some of the moves because he has bad knees. Random notes: ~I wore my new…
  • >>>>>>>>>>> pink-and-shiny, staceyskinny: thank you, I am rather fond of it myself! <<<<<<<<<<< I'm a sucker for praise, so I'm adding another playlist: Let's Get It Started - Black Eyed Peas (I'm such a geek, I love to have a song that starts it off right) Mercy - Duffy (makes me want to dance and wear fifties-style…
  • Today was day 3 for me! I have been commenting on the older threads, but this will be better since we are all new!
  • I recently made a Very Silly Playlist. Don't know why, but something about old school guilty pleasure songs make running a pleasure! Not that these are *all* tongue in cheek, but about half are! Oh L'amour - Erasure (this song just makes me all happy inside. I love starting the run with it) Don't Stop Believin' - Journey…
  • Today was day three of level one for me! I'm sore from days one and two plus zumba and running so I was really not up for it today! But I did it, knowing it was only 20 minutes to struggle through and it does go by pretty fast. Actually, I turn it off before the cooldown and do my own 15 minutes of stretching out, so now I…
  • I haven't done videos for a while but I just bought Jillian Michaels's 30 Day Shred and did my first workout with her today. Loved it! For pilates I have used Ana Caban's and she is great. ~melissa
  • Starting tomorrow morning! I will go back and read the whole thread to check, but if it hasn't been covered: do you know of any men who have done it? I might be able to wrangle my sweetie into doing it with me. Um, doing shred with me, I mean.
  • I love Bikram yoga! In June I did the 30 day challenge: Bikram yoga every day for 30 days. It was intense and awesome! AT the moment I am only going once a week or so, but I'll do another 30 days in September.
  • I did the Bikram yoga 30 day challenge last month and it was amazing. I wrote a blog post about it when I was almost at the end of it: http://www.yummygoods.com/blog/2010/7/8/407-im-bringing-flexy-back.html I am planning to do another next month! melissa
