I am able to drink whole milk. While I usually have 2% (when I have milk, which isn't often) at home, anywhere else I go I usually have whole milk. My stomach is fine with it. Maybe they told you that because it's higher in fat and calories...?

My first OMG was when I realized I could cross my legs again! That was a wonderful moment for me. Yeah, my hump is gone too....woohoo!!

Definately find the protein shake that works best for you. It's an important source of protein. I think the most important thing is to get your head straight before surgery. Remember, it's a TOOL and will not lose the weight for you (after a certain point). Once you are over the surgery and feeling your old self, those…

Congrats on your surgery! Sorry your recuperating hasn't been great because of your shoulder, but it's only up from here, right? :)
-
That's great! Keep up the great work!

I definately empathize with you. I struggle daily. It wasn't until about 6 months after my surgery that I realized that I am a food addict, otherwise known as a compulsive overeater. I have lost 50 lbs since surgery 9 months ago. I will say I am disappointed as I thought I would be at goal by now, but I know it's my own…

Hi Genara Have you tried the Premier Protein Shakes? They are ready made and are delicious. I had an awful time trying to find a protein shake I liked in the beginning and this was the only one I could really tolerate. If you can find it, give it a try. Here in Southern Calif, the only place I have been able to find them…

Hi Katie I had my surgery in September of last year. Lost 50 and then stopped dead in my tracks. It's my own fault that I haven't lost more and I'm working hard on getting myself back on track. That's why I joined MFP - I need motivation and ideas!

I had a before picture and took an after picture after losing 50 lbs. I really had to take a long look at it several times before I realized I had lost alot of inches! It was a great feeling :)

Hi Katie! Congrats on your fabulous weight loss so far! I did Kaiser too with the Options program. It seemed like such a long wait for the actual surgery, but I can see where the Options program was really beneficial. Welcome!

Nice to see some more folks joining this board. Welcome!

Well, I've found that taking a magnesium supplement has helped tremendously. I no longer get the awful "have to have it" cravings and can pass it up most of the time. Thank goodness!

You look fabulous! Congratulations!

Congrats! Let us know how you're doing.

2 weeks for me. I had originally planned on a week, but my energy level was so low I decided to take an extra week. I needed it! I have a desk job, but thinking straight with no energy was nearly impossible.

My problem is in the evening as well. Everyone goes to bed and there I sit in front of the TV, bored, so I graze. Trying reallly hard to break that habit! Anyway....try anything that works for you to relieve boredom....crocheting, video games, anything to keep your hands busy. But stay away from the TV! That will get you…

Will keep my fingers crossed for your insurance approval!

I am 8 months out. I set my calorie goal to 1,000 per day. I set my carbs at 30g perday and fat at 20 per day. I have really been struggling lately. The head stuff seems to be taking over again!

Congratulations leamarie!

So sorry to hear but glad you found out what was going on and got it taken care of. When did you have surgery?

Oh my gosh, there is SO much to do in San Diego! The Zoo is world famous and alot of fun. Sea World is pretty fun too! You could go over to Coronado Island to the Hotel Del Coronado. Beautiful place with beautiful beaches. You could visit Old Towne, which has alot of great things to see. Head to the beach in La Jolla and…

Depending on the type of surgery you had, your stomach should be much smaller than it was before. You can't each alot and your body requires less calories because of the small stomach.

During the weight loss phase, typical calorie intake is 800 to 1,000 per day. Always make sure you have protein first!
-
I used it a couple of years back. Lost 25 lbs and was pretty happy, except that I stopped losing at 25 lbs. I didn't experience horrible side effects like some say, but when I ate too much fat (which is the key to success), the extra fat was definately disposed of when I went to the bathroom! If I kept my fat to no more…

Absolutely have had this experience with meds. Unfortunately I don't have any good tips for you because I have struggled with it for years. The only thing I can suggest is to talk to your psych about it and see what suggestions he/she may have. Maybe a different med? Drink lots of water...it helps a bit.
-
I typically have from 800 to 1,000 calories a day. I really should stay closer to 800, but for me that is really tough. The demons in my head don't like that number! :) I do concentrate on protein first.

I have Hashimoto's as well and take the same med as you do. And I have the same problem that you have! Losing is VERY slow and I blame it partially on my thyroid...but only a little bit.
