  • Aim to NET between your BMR and TDEE. That means you need to really get better about eating your exercise calories. Some days you won't get there. Others you'll be over. But it's still important to be close to that goal. I would change goals manually, if you are changing up from what MFP recommends. (Especially if you want…
  • Wow, I so know how you feel! Some days are going to be harder than others. We will probably always struggle with binges of many types. Most of our lives we've been conditioned to use food as an escape for all the other crap going on in our lives. It's also celebration! It's like no matter what is going on in life, it…
  • Either create your own, if you know the nutritional nutrition, or make up a recipe by using things similar to what it is or the components of the food and use that.

  • Definitely physique! I'd rather look good than weigh a certain number. Just wish I could get to where my knees stop hurting again...
  • I highly recommend doing beginners yoga, any type or any where should help with the flexibility. It's far more interesting that just doing stretches too. To increase flexibility, you need to stretch your muscles, tendons and ligaments in a safe and consistent way. Yoga's focus on listening to your body should allow you to…
  • Absolutely normal! Your body doesn't yet realize that it's going to get more calories for good! It's holding on to what it sees as a feast for the next famine time. Give yourself a month, then worry about it!
  • I'm not sure how planet fitness gets away with calling itself a gym. It's really set up for the "cardio queens" (I mean men and women). There are barely any weights at all, just machines for the most part. Lots and lots of those fixed track, injury encouraging machines. And the no grunting rule is totally unfair. I can't…
  • For one, stop insulting yourself! That's no way to learn to love yourself! And it's important to love the skin you're in, as it's all you got! There is no way to spot reduce, unfortunately. Though, to minimize the size, weight train, run, yoga/pilates, stairs, etc. can all help. Yoga really makes me feel trim, and lifting…
  • Wow. I thought I was in a bad mood today... Then I read this thread, and people here seem cranky too! I hate how some people whine about needing to lose a few more pounds when I have so far to go. But it's a part of the process! And those last few pounds are truly the hardest to lose. So rather than jumping down the throat…
  • Martine - lifting up heavy objects, carrying them around, and putting them down counts as strength. Especially if it's outside of your normal routine! That's all strength training is, lift things up and put them down! My body is unhappy with me today! Ow. At least I've lost the water weight I've been carrying…
  • I think staying under or just meeting calorie goal is the most important part. Otherwise, I try to minimize carbs and fats, but always try to meet or exceed protein. Works most of the time.
  • I'm totally serious about the moon phase. I find I'm up just following the full moon most months. Bizarre as it sounds! LOL. Great job with the exercise, that's a totally awesome burn! You eating back 2/3 to 3/4 of those calories too?
  • As long as you drink plenty of water, nope. If you're constipated, then yup!
  • So many reasons for a gain... time of month allergies random water retention new exercises - different muscle usage more/less fiber than usual slight changes in dietary habits moon phase astrological mumbo jumbo. etc. It seems completely random to me some days, but our bodies are not always the machine we like to think…
  • I take a capsule form. Much easier to swallow! You may have to go hunting for one. Mine is by designs for health, that I get through my doctor. It's great to help with energy levels too. However too much gives you the runs, yuck!
  • Bump! So I can find it later!
  • Sorry I'm a little slow on the uptake this week! I have been so busy! -Both students working on an honor's thesis are done. -Ran my 5k, record pace for me! -Started the New Rules of Weight Lifting for Women yesterday. First workout was no problem. Probably went a little too light on the weights, but 15 reps is a ton of…
  • Water: 7/7 Food: 5/7 Cardio: 180+/60 minutes Strength: 90+/30 minutes And I ran my 5k. Huge goal met there!
  • 5k exhaustion took over! New thread coming up! :blushing:
  • The only thing that gets me through a runn on the treadmill anymore is TV. If I can get focused on a TV, I can run. If I don't find anything interesting the time drags... Otherwise, try to run when it's not as hot. Morning (not necessarily early, but earlier than say 10AM or so.) or evenings are probably your best bet.…
  • Running/jogging is an excellent exercise to add to a healthy eating plan to lose weight. I've not lost a lot, but I'm working on it!
  • Both students somehow made it through! The first was easy, the second was a miracle! Did my first 5k today! Don't have my official finish time, but I did it in less than 40 minutes, definitely an awesome time! I've never done that many miles that fast before. So I'm thrilled. Next 5k is at the end of August. Aiming for…
  • The best way to lose 80 pounds is to eat less (and as healthy and unprocessed as you can get) and to work your butt off with exercise. It's far easier to exercise it off than to do it by eating better alone. But you must do both to lose the weight. Oh, and drink more water. Other than a little caffeine, it's the only thing…
  • Yup! It works. Just push yourself a little every time. If you can't complete a set, back down a little. I'm the same weight, but looking so much smaller just by lifting these last 3 weeks! And the confidence boost is unbeatable!
  • First student through the gamut, and she's done and leaving for home today! Second student (the one I'm giving a 50% chance of passing to) defends today. He had so many typos and errors in his presentation, I didn't know where to begin. Just passed it off to my adviser to deal with. I missed yoga last night, and I'm…
  • This! I agree that it's the best way to "like" a comment, however sometimes adding a thought of your own is nice too!

  • I depends on your body. A lot of those sites that say you'd lose "belly fat" from lower carbs probably base it on the fact that a lot of people are less tolerant of certain carbs that causes bloating. You're actually losing water weight when you rid yourself of a food sensitivity.
  • You look totally awesome! Gotta love what "bulking" can do!
  • Spray deep woods off on your clothing, and less toxic stuff on your skin. And check your body carefully when you get done. Same type of prevention as going camping!
  • It could be how you push off your foot when running as opposed to how you push off when walking. It could be the slowing process that makes your ankle hurt. I can't say for sure (too much of a newbie myself), but these make sense to me! :)
