I hate it when you talk sense but you do it so often. Damn, you ARE my man-crush. ;)

I quit cold turkey after 20 years a few years ago (can't remember when, seems like another life). Allen Carr's Easy Way book did it for me, it just completely deprogrammed me. I'm in better physical shape now than ever, I don't identify myself with smoking at all. I am more motivated and physically active which helps keep…

Crystal Meth.

Makes as much sense to me as non-alcoholic beer or decaffeinated coffee ... but hey, if you like the taste ... here speaks someone who is not averse to chugging down a Coke Zero which has to be the mother and father of all chemical nastiness ...

Appreciate the present more, be here now, be grateful, pay it forward, generally lighten the **** up. :) Weight-wise it would be nice to torch the last bit of jiggle but my happiness doesn't depend on it. I have no idea what I weigh and not minded to find out. I shall just rock into 2014 as I have been attacking 2013 ...

I'd say that the benefits from a fat loss perspective are overblown, calories in/out still rule. The Taubes books previously recommended (and many more in a similar vein) and they have huge holes in them from a scientific point of view and most people would be better off restricting nothing that they have not been…

Insulin has been demonised, it is necessary for many things, not just shuttling fat into storage. Just burn more than you consume ... There is no magic hormone fix for most IMO.

I've read both Taubes books and a few more along the same lines (carbs=insulin=fat storage) and they are all missing some vital information. I agree, Krieger's response is well worth a read. Taubes talks a good fight but is, ultimately, wrong.

Ice cream. :)

Have at it, eggs are great nutrition. Dietary cholesterol does not affect cholesterol in the blood and in any case the cholesterol turns out not to be the bad guy. I am of course an expert so take my word for it. ;) I'm having a huge omelette later just for the hell of it ... full fat cheesy omelette ... Lovely.

I wasn't hungry but just reading the title of this thread has derailed me, someone delete this thread or put kale in the title!

I accept 'em all. :)

I guess some people would feel guilty about eating chocolate and ice cream daily. But I don't. :)

Allen Carr's Easy Way book sorted me out cold turkey after 20 odd years, it's worked for a fair few others I have recommended it to. You do still REALLY have to want to quit though, if it clicks with you then it's really simple. One day you are a smoker, you read the book, next day you just don't see the appeal. It…

The why is to make the most of this rare, unlikely and blessed physical opportunity and, by extension, create a link to the metaphysical and fulfill the potential of what I am which is a co-creator of life and embodiment of the universal subconcious. That and to look good nekkid. ;)

Indeed, great plan. It will jump start your water weight losses which will return the instant you fancy a sandwich or a cracker. You wanna lose fat or just reduce the number on the scale? 1000 calories and no carbs? Jaysus, just shoot me now ... Your body does not work best with low carbs, your body works best when you…

Methaphatamine.

No limit for me especially if they are being produced by our (very) free range chooks. :)

Nice one. :) If you waver and need back up reasons for why you quit then I can recommend the Allan Carr Easy Way book. That did it for me after 20 odd years puffing away, don't crave them at all now. Well, OK, very occasionally, but that's nicotine for ya ...

Melt it into some kale. ;)

I haven't. ;) I do consume much grape-derived liquid though so I guess that counts ...

I eat very little during the day, this way I can pig out in the evening and not worry about it. But I'm an office drone who doesn't "work out", I can barely work out which train to catch most mornings. ;) I find I can exercise restraint during the day easier than the evening so it works for me, obviously it's not for…

There is just food and drink. Enjoy both as you see fit. If you want to drop some blubber then you may need to moderate and move the legs a bit more. Aint any more complex than that, for most.

Cut booze? What manner of madness is this?!

.........the consumer's nutrient density care factor will vary somewhat. ;) I've converted to red wine having liked the sweet stuff, seems to work OK for me. I drink buckets of the stuff regularly, love it. Going home to do so now in fact. Bring dem empty calories on!

A large banana and two apples.

And the body naturally makes WAY more cholesterol than we consume. Why does it do this? Oh yeh, we need cholesterol. Hmmm, what if 'high' cholesterol correlates with CVD not because it is the cause but because it is trying to repair the damage caused by something else? But that would mean everyone trying to reduce theirs…

I'm big on those little tins of flavoured tuna, you have to watch the ones in oil (fat content) but my kitchen is full of the others. Lob some of those in with some sweetcorn, maybe some greenery if I'm pretending to be healthy and I am happy. I don't restrict anything, I try to get my share of protein in and fill in the…

Tuna, bread (all kinds, even that stuff that is basically equivalent to a Mars Bar), spinach, chicken, eggs, cheese, beef mince, peas, milk, coffee, red wine, scotch, rum. Maybe not in that order of priority/need. ;)
