  • The cookbooks are great. They do have a ton of recipes on their website, too, if you want to check them before buying anything.
  • I like the website suggestions -- I like eatingwell too. Have you tried the Canadian Living cookbooks? I like that they label all the calories and provide breakdowns of the recipes, and have little icons above recipes to flag the ones that are healthier choices. I also really like Donna Hay's cookbooks.

  • What about polenta for that (cornmeal)? It's really cheap, lasts a long time, and can be covered with all kinds of sauces. I found some great cornmeal and apple muffin recipes that are sweetened with applesauce (also not particularly expensive to make on your own).
