My cholesterol was a little high when I was diagnosed. I have a family history of problems. Since I don't have any bad reactions to it, I have been taking some form of statin for 14 years now. My chol is fine but I will continue to take it. Dr. is also planning on putting me on a BP med even though I am low normal. I was…

Great job! It is a huge NSV to reduce your drugs.

Test and see what they do to you. Apples have fiber so they may not cause a big increase in BG. Everyone is different so the only way to know what a food does to you is to test.

Hi Candy and Kanika, welcome to the board. You will find a great deal of support and knowledge from our members. Sometimes a good support network is what keeps me going. Seeing that other people have succeeded in losing weight and controlling BG is very encouraging. My friends here have kept me going through a 5 month…

Proteins generally mean kidney issues which is not uncommon with diabetics. High BG causes rot meaning your organs start to die and your circulation gets bad which is why some diabetics end up with amputations. When you have high BG like the both of you have you need to call your dr. If you have done all you can with your…

I used to get up at 3:45 to run because that was when I had time. You get used to it and I prefer working out in the morning rather than at night.

Liquid sugar is one of the worst things for me. The only juice I drink is low carb like cranberry with splenda that only has a couple carbs per glass. Last time I had regular juice was to treat a hypo. I only drink diet pops. With no fiber or fat liquid sugar dumps right into your system. Changing your eating will really…

Low BG can make me agitated just because I'm getting confused and physically not feeling right. I think that is very common. When I am high I tend to get cranky and sometimes a bit irrational. I don't know if it is because I often get more tired or what. A friend of mine said his dad did the same thing.

Ashtanga is a specific set of poses but is similar to vinyasa flow. I like flow better because it varies. Never tried Hot Yoga since I don't really like being hot. I used to do 90 minutes of hatha but my instructors did a lot of flow type poses along with the stretching and strength. I sometimes find yin/restore a little…

Being a working mom is tough and tiring. It may simply be that is what is causing your exhaustion. High BG can do it, so can not eating enough or not sleeping enough. Check all 3 to see if you are doing ok. Not exercising can be a problem too. If you have a job that you sit a lot you may want to try to squeeze in a walk…

120 is not to bad. Liver dumps due to DP or because you got low in the middle of the night so your body dumped to compensate for that may be the culprit. I agree that not eating will often up your BG. Eating too many carbs or not enough carbs can do it too. Diabetes is often a great mystery and insignificant things can…

Welcome Bighog, You are off to a great start. Eating healthy and exercising will help your BG and MFP can help you keep track of it all. We have a great, supportive, and knowledgeable group here so I'm glad you found us.

Welcome Wcucats, Glad you found us and it sounds like you are doing all the right things. Keep up the good work!

Welcome Chris, It can be done and many have been able to control BG using diet and exercise. The key thing is to record food and activity and test often. Eventually you will figure out what your body wants and may be successful with it. For most people that means eating lower carbs, combining carbs with protein or fat, and…

It depends on what kind of job. When I interview for office jobs I always wear nice, dark pants, a blazer, and a blouse with color. My shoes are always flats because I don't wear heels no matter what. Anyway, my jobs often require a lot of moving around. One job I had to walk through construction sites and factories. When…

Yes it is. Anything that places stress on your body can affect your BG.

Congrats Chipper. Keep up the great work!

Quick breakfasts I eat toast and cheese or toast and pb. I try to always eat whole grain breads. The higher the fiber the better. Less quick breakfast I eat eggs. Veggie and cheese omelet is a good one. But hardboiling eggs the day before then grabbing those for breakfast is good too. Fat, protein and fiber help slow down…

Yes, BG is so connected to everything. You can eat and exercise exactly the same every day but then emotions or illness can change what is happening.

I don't know about mfp but most meters can be downloaded to a computer spreadsheet. You need to get a cable to do that which you need to order from the meter mfg. Some drs. specify a meter and they have the cable and software to download at the office.

I cook in cast iron skillets. They impart some iron into your food, especially in acidic dishes like things with tomatoes.

Welcome and glad you found us. It is a tough diagnosis but if you get a grip and take care of yourself you will end up much healthier than you probably would have if you didn't have it. The people on this board are caring and have a wealth of knowledge. The goal is to have your BG under control. To do that you need to…

I have actually heard that too but have never really researched it. I was diagnosed with under active thyroid at 12 but no hashimoto antibodies present. My levels have really fluctuated over the years. Current endo thinks it's possible I actually have Graves and I'm just swinging all over the place. I was diagnosed T2 at…

Nut butter and avocados are often where I pick up extra cals when I'm short. Cheese too. I worry less about fat than carbs.

Great job! The goal is to keep BG under control, drugs or not. 5.5 is fab.

Woohoo! excellent job. That took a lot of hard work. I agree with Cameo. Treat yourself to something not food related. Do something you want to do or get a new piece of equipment.

Just thinking could your BP be off?

I'm also guessing unrelated. Sometimes people get hypo symptoms with normal readings because their body isn't used to normal but way too high. You seem to have a lot of normal readings though so I don't think your body is in shock at your current BG. Maybe you're tired? Did you drink enough water? Did you eat enough cals?…
