Hey, I did that for a while. Then I talked to hubs who also isn't watching the game (he's working in another state so we talk on the phone a lot), I made dinner while I was talking to him and am now sitting here eating and typing. I think I will quit even pretending I'm doing homework and find something on Netflix.

I get the low fat kind and it is a great high protein base for cheese or hummus. It fits well into my lower carb lifestyle. It seems the low fat variety is getting very hard to find anymore.

About $600 per month including non-food stuff like soap, cleaners, TP. This is for a family of 4, hubs, me, and two upper teen step kids so they eat like adults. Right now hubs is working in another state so I expect it will go down a lot. I work and go to school full time so don't have time to cook for the kids so we buy…

Proper shoes are crucial. I started out alternating walking and running. I didn't run until I was exhausted, I did it in timed increments that were appropriate for me and that way I could keep moving for a full hour. In less than a year I went from running a minute at a time to running for the full hour. Before I got…

My daughter was stationed in Okinawa for 2.5 years and really liked it. She is half Japanese and never had any racial problems. Neither did my other daughter who spent 3 weeks touring the country. Yes, the Japanese are very homogeneous, I'm 3rd generation with some relatives making me 5th and I was the first generation to…

I saw many strange and sometimes twisted things then realized, no, it is just a mess that someone left for me to clean up. sigh. After almost finishing raising 5 kids and the hubs I will never finish raising I think I have housework on my mind but it is all waiting for me to finish finals week although the boss wants me on…

I just kept cutting back. I bought low salt versions of stuff. I cook my own food so I have more control over the sodium. I read labels. The other day I realized that I rarely salt my food. I love cheese so that is higher in salt but other than that most processed foods taste way too salty for me. I noticed I also eat less…

I know that some people really can't run due to joint issues. I thought I was one of them for most of my life. When I was in my 20s I used to run about 3 miles a day. My knees, hips, and feet would hurt eventually it would become debilitating. Given I do have joint issues I figured I just couldn't run. While I continued to…

Cal burn depends on the type you are doing too. Restore type stretching will be lower than Ashtanga/Flow/Power. Somewhere, someone posted a yoga burn calculator since mfp just has Hatha/stretching type. The benefits of yoga are increased flexibility, increased balance, increased strength (depending on what you are doing),…

Healthy convenience foods like salad in a bag, precut veggies in a bag, cheese, nuts, fruit and herbal tea along with black coffee. And my stressbuster is very dark chocolate. I also view cooking something as taking a bit of a break from studying although I have to admit I have frozen spanikopita in the oven right now. It…

I only work 24-30 hours a week and take 15 quarter credit hours online. Online cuts out commute time which helps since for me that would be a minimum of an hour a day if I went to the expensive private college. The nearest public would be about 3 or 4 hours a day commute. One of my state universities offers fully online…

About once a week I do 20 minutes of hiit. About 3 or 4 days a week I run between 3 and 5 miles depending on time. I have medical condition and live in an area with no safe roads to run so I treadmill it. I like doing an hour of steady state, it's one of the few times I watch tv. I like hiit since it increases my speed. It…

I think for cheap I would go for regular noodles boiled in chicken broth and whatever seasoning. If you like the taste get asian noodles like chow mein noodles and cook with broth and a bit of soy sauce. You can also get those fresh ramen noodles in the refer section. At least they aren't fried.

Hot cereals, mashed potatoes, almost anything overcooked. It has been years since I had my wisdom teeth out. One was impacted so I remember it hurt quite a bit. It seems like I drank a lot of stuff because it really hurt to chew.

I eat a square of dark chocolate pretty much every day. Not a lot of cals and lots of flavor. SF jello. I eat diet and artificial sweetener products so there are things like the Breyers low carb ice creams and bars. I'm low carb so don't eat the others since they are pretty high in carbs even if they are low in cals. Blue…

I try to analyze my urge to eat. Like someone else said, sometimes the urge to eat isn't true hunger. It can be thirst, tiredness or boredom. When I'm hungry and I don't think I should be I start off with a big glass of water or tea. Then if I'm still hungry I'll eat something like a salad with vinegar so it has very few…

Do something you've always wanted to do. Get a massage or pedicure or something like that. Buy something not food like clothes, jewelry or whatever it is that excites you.

Ran my last two miles this morning at 9 minutes a mile. The other 3 miles I did at 10 minutes each. I know that for many runners that wasn't many miles nor very fast but I realized that when I was a teenager I used to run an 8.5 minute mile for school but that was just one mile. I'm 47 now and am quite proud that my old…

MFP has a very nice T2 group here http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/1789-type-2-diabetes-support-group. You will find lots of support and info there. I also think there is a prediabetes group and I think many people are on both groups. I am glad you are trying to take care of yourself now. Make sure you talk to your…

I have to say that stress can play a big role in weight gain/lack of loss. Being a care taker is stressful. So is being a parent and working full time. You do have a lot on your plate. Are you sure you haven't lost size? In the last 8 months I have only lost 7 lbs but I've lost about 12 inches off my thighs, hips, waist,…

I bought a used Nordictrack on CL for $50. Cheap because it is pretty old and the incline motor is broken but I'm thrilled for the price. The bottom folds up so it wouldn't take up too much room when not in use. everyone I know with a Nordictrack is happy with it.

Realize that what you are saying is 100% is an average and doesn't mean it is 100% for you. You need to figure out what is healthy for you. If at that heart rate you are feeling light headed or like you are going to pass out then it may be too high for you. If you felt fine then I wouldn't worry so much. Also, since it…

When I end up at a fast food place I generally get a side salad rather than fries and take off at least half of the bun.

Hi Fergie, The diagnosis is always really overwhelming. I remember what it was like and that was 14 years ago. If you eat tortillas I would go for the low carb ones. You really want to be aware of the carbs in your food. MFP makes that a lot easier than when I used to have to look everything up in a carb book. The number…

Hi Gary, Glad you decided to quit lurking and post. You and your wife have made amazing changes! Good job on the weight loss. While I don't believe weight is the deciding factor in getting T2 it certainly can make it much worse. I'm sure you will have a pleasant surprise when you get your A1C. Can you ask that your…

LOL Cameo, I had to learn with close enough when I was an insurance auditor. I still like to balance my accounts to the penny but can deal with ball park numbers now. It was a long and hard road to reach that point. I agree with Cameo, sugar is not evil, it is about watching carbs and testing testing testing. If you know…

Great job! your BG is doing great. It is a real challenge when confronted with so many new and starchy foods.
