  • I'm starting over too. I've struggled with my weight since I hit puberty (which was eh hem . . . a few years ago LOL). I've had some success over the years, but it requires an inordinate amount of dedication and concentration and the whole concept becomes exhausting. I'm considering some counseling to get past the 'why…
  • I decided to host Thanksgiving for my family this year. I'll make the standard fare, mashed potatoes, stuffing, pies, etc., but I'm also planning some low-carb options -- loaded cauliflower, broccoli salad, a low-carb dessert. The only thing I really plan on indulging in is a left-over turkey and stuffing sandwich. Yum!
  • South Texas here, about 2 hours south of San Antonio.
  • I've been reading through this thread and pondering where it all started for me . . . I've never thought about it much, my family was big (tall & heavy), I was always the biggest kid in class, from the time I became aware of my weight, it was more than all of my friends, etc. -- but the root of the problem? I'd have to say…
  • I'm not quite 6 ft, 'only' 5'10. ;-) My goal is 165, which 20+ years ago (ugh, hate to admit that!) was a comfortable size 14 on me. Hopefully it'll be a size 10 now, the way sizes have changed. I've always wondered what it would be like to be tiny. Some of my smaller friends say they'd rather be tall cuz lbs show…
  • I'm 5'10", currently 200 lbs. I was 166 lbs when I joined the military at 18, got down to 148 at the end of bootcamp & maintained it for about a day & a half. LOL My ultimate goal weight is 160 lbs with no jiggly bits. I might have to go lower to get there, I'm just trying to get to 160 for now.
  • South Texas here, a little town that's close to nothing but little towns. About an hour north of Corpus Christi. Lived in Texas most of my life, been cussing the heat and humidity the whole time. I haven't had a chance to read through the whole thread . . . anybody else in S. Texas? Beeville? Skidmore?
  • Donuts, Kolaches, fried chicken, white flour anything and white rice. Artificial sweeteners except on the RARE occasion. Fried anything. What do I miss? Donuts, Kolaches, . . . ha ha just kidding. The only thing I really miss and I'm working on doing it healthy: coconut shrimp and jasmine rice.
  • I decided that for every pound I lose, I'll spend $10 on new clothes. So, when I reach my goal weight, I'll have $490 and my boyfriend offered to match me. Nearly $1000 in new clothes is a pretty sweet incentive!
  • Hi, I'm 42, want to lose about 40 lbs, my boyfriend is 32 & just wants to get his 6 pack back. We're doing Insanity together. I've been on MFP off & on for several years, always seem to get sidetracked with life. I'd love some friends & support, please add me! My user name isnt very creative, but my friends call me Ruthie.
  • I'm doing low-carb too and I am seeing success. 10 lbs in 5 weeks, but I also started doing a 'bootcamp' class 3 times a week. The boyfriend and I started Insanity this week, too. I like the low-carb lifestyle. I love veggies, could eat chicken every day of the week, etc. Cooking for the boyfriend is a little tougher, he's…
  • Let's see, a typical day . . . McDonalds breakfast 2 sausage McMuffins -- 370 each = 740 1 large non-fat (because non-fat is IMPORTANT! <insert eye-roll> latte -- 110 Mid-morning Whatever vendors bring in, donuts, kolaches, you name it. And usually one of each Donut -- 192 Kolache, sausage & cheese -- 240 Lunch Church's…
  • I have it for Kinect too . . . I love it! Every time you get the move right and the girl on the screen turns green she shouts 'That's it!' 'You're doing great!' I know it's just a computer, but the words of encouragement are awesome.
  • A pair of size 12 Levis that are so old they're faded almost white. They are my first goal.
  • As if my day wasn't busy enough . . . now I have to nurse a mad crush on SoldierDad.
  • Your stomach and taste buds convince you that your eyes are underestimating . . . Memos to myself: This will NOT be the last opportunity you will ever have to eat <fill in the blank>. You're right, no one will know if you skip the last 20 minutes of that workout tape, or eat a 2nd bowl of cereal, or take the elevator…
  • Do you know people that always say they know everything before you did? 'I just heard on the news blah blah blah' 'Oh yea, I knew that.' That's what this sounds like to me. "*I* knew you needed to lose weight before *you* did!"
  • Height 5'10" Weight 196 BMI 28.1 BF 37.5 Pants 14-16 Shirts XL to XXL I used a body fat calculator online . . . asked for all kinds of measurements. Damn skinny wrists . . . obviously the only thing on me that's skinny!
  • The comment about being on drugs is just wrong. But, like many have said on this thread, if they can't do it themselves, they assume you must be doing something shady because you're succeeding. Depending on the person, I usually wait until they mention something about dieting before I say anything about their weight loss.…
  • I run in mine . . . granted, not very far, just 1/4 of a 1/4 mile track at a time (6 laps on a 1/4 mile track = 1 1/2 miles, 1/4 of a 1/4 mile lap x 6 = oh hell, where's my calculator?). Anyway . . . the first couple times I wore them to walk, my butt and thighs were screaming for mercy. I have to REALLY stretch my calves…
  • My ex-mother-in-law gave me a jogging suit that someone had given her. 'Oh, I can't wear this . . . it's positively HUGE! I mean I was literally swimming in it! Maybe it'll fit you.' Um thanks. Just what I always wanted. A positively huge mint-green old lady jogging suit. Great. Oh, and for the record, The b*tch was right,…
  • My SO is notorious for making comments like 'We should have some popcorn!' or 'Do we have any cookies to bake? We should have some cookies.' In the beginning I took it to mean 'Wow, you look hungry and like you might want/deserve a treat' when in reality what he's saying is 'I'm hungry and I would like a snack but I would…
  • I don't try to explain PCOS to anybody because when you get into the details it sounds too much like 'I have a glandular problem that makes it hard for me to lose weight'. Uh huh . . . is it a 'glandular problem' or is it that empty box of Krispy Kremes sitting on your desk? Or worse, 'so what do you mean it effects your…
  • I would like to thank the string of mostly incompetent and condescending military doctors that led to it taking over 12 years to get a diagnosis. I started showing symptoms at 18 (irregular periods) for which my military gyn handed me a prescription for birth control and pushed me out the door. I went off the pill at 21 in…
  • When my boyfriend started talking about how 'we' needed to start working out together, that 'we' were getting soft. Well . . . he's 5'10" and 190 lbs of solid muscle (with the exception of a cute little belly bulge) so I figured he must be talking about me. ;) I've always been above-average in weight ('but you're so tall,…
  • Hi Madelainet, I too have PCOS and it took forever to get a diagnosis. And it is incredibly hard to lose weight. And it's incredibly hard to get a diagnosis and treatment because the Dr's first response is to tell you lose weight and your menstrual problems will resolve themselves. Tell me when you first noticed problems…
