One more thought - it's nice to want to get involved and talk to the parents but you really don't know what the situation is. What if the parents become angry that you got involved and come back against you in some way? Stay anonymous, contact the authorities and watch from a distance.

I would say child protective services. It's obvious the parents don't give a *kitten* or they wouldn't have locked her out.

No, it's not cheating. It's reinforcing that the work you do is paying off. If there is a psychological advantage for you to weight yourself after running, then do it. I weigh myself once a week at the same time on the same scale. That is my official weigh-in. Whatever gets you through this journey, do it!
