- Feeling cold. Less blubber to keep me warm. - Have to lower calorie intake even more. There's less body to maintain so you have to eat less, and there's less body to move around so exercising burns fewer calories

Actually, it's not unhealthy to actually LOSE weight during the first few weeks (or maybe even the whole first trimester? It's been a while since I learned about it) for you or the fetus. But you are probably not pregnant. Pregnancy tests are legit, and physical activity + diet definitely messes with things. Wait a few…

I've always been a bit like that for money (I'm Jew-ish, unsurprisingly). And now I'm turning that way towards food as well so my two obsessions have to duke it out, and often combine. "If I value my time at X dollars per hour, how much money would it take to burn off those 'free' work snacks?" I calculated that, if it…

Things like this would be much better if they sited research studies.

My family doesn't really do casseroles, I can pretty much guess what our delicious Thanksgiving meal will be: 1. Turkey (of course!) 2. Stuffing 3. Mashed potatoes 4. Peas Sometimes there will be one or two other items. Sweet potatoes, generally. Sometimes green beans. I love items 1-4 because they taste delicious when you…

I'm in, if there's room!

Good job to everyone so far! Did anyone else succumb to the $2 burritos at Chipotle last night? So good, but so many calories. Can't believe the tortilla alone has 290 calories! I biked some extra last night, but I'm not going to count it because I don't really know how far I went, and it all got cancelled out by that…

It's a good thing I upped my goal this week. My department got a free work-sponsored lunch yesterday, and afterwards I looked up the calories. UGH. I thought I was being good by skipping the bacon, cheese, and egg on my hamburger, but the french fries were over 650 calories! I should have skipped them and enjoyed bacon…

Let's do this! Last week I beat my goal of 4500, maybe I can bump it up a notch this week! Weekly Goal: 5000 Mon: 200 + 500 + 500 (biking to/from kettlebells, kettlebells class, biking to/from work) Tues: calories burned (how they were burned) Wed: calories burned (how they were burned) Thur: calories burned (how they were…

Woke up at 5:30am to go to kettlebells class. As usual, I wanted to sleep in, but powered through. So glad I did; it wakes me up so freaking well. Also, I moved up to a 25lb kettlebell! Woo! I'm using an even heavier one when I squat.

It's the second day of my 5 week Groupon deal, which involves kettleball classes 3 days a week at 6am. Needless to say, I wanted to sleep in! My flannel sheets seemed far more appealing than a 2.5 mile bike ride to a grueling fitness class that would leave me even MORE sore. But I got up anyway. I admit I was a little…

None of them. It's their JOB to look good. They've got teams of experts to help them exercise, and to help them look their best with hair/makeup/clothes/etc. It's silly for me to compare myself to them.

Jogging sucks, bicycling forevah! Love my daily 10mi round trip commute. I also started kettlebell classes this week. Woo daily deal sites. Five weeks of three times a week... one down so far. Really enjoying it thus far, but classes are so expensive I don't think I'll continue when it expires.

I agree, it does seem high! I'm 6', 260lbs, and MFP says that I burn 700+ calories during my daily hour long bike ride, which is only 10 miles. Seems off to me, so in my head I generally calculate it as 50 calories per mile biked. I hope it's accurate enough

5 miles each way. It's like the perfect distance; far enough that I get some exercise, short enough that I don't need to change clothes in nice weather. As for the cost of extra "fuel," one of the reasons I'm doing it is for weight loss. I'm not increasing my food intake so that I can maintain a good calorie deficit :)…

Oh, and one last thing. The newest Mr. Money Mustache blog post is pretty applicable to this conversation. It's too awesome for me to try to summarize it here. Just read it, get enlightened! http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2012/10/08/how-to-go-from-middle-class-to-kickass/

My goodness, 12 pages of comments? Guess I'll throw in my two cents. Need to have a financial overhaul? Here's some advice from a successful 20-something who's had the benefit of parents who instilled some very good financial sense. People here are obviously into tracking things. Someone mentioned YNAB, but what I prefer…

Bike commuting. 10 miles round trip five days a week. At least, until it gets too cold!
