  • Very nice!! Thanks for the post!
  • I also agreed with the above quote AND I've done my research. There was no need for the tone. We are all here for the same reason, aren't we?
  • Ditto!!
  • It was your SECOND day! This is all new to you. Cut yourself some slack and go on from here. It gets easier, it really does. Start adopting the idea that this isn't a "diet" but a lifestyle change. Something you are doing "extra special" for YOU!!
  • Winter camping! Nothing warms the soul and heart like a blazing campfire! Love my Midwest!!
  • Lunches have always been a struggle for me too. So now, when I make supper I scoop out my lunch portion BEFORE putting it on the table. That way I know I have something healthy. I love soups, but I tire of salads with winter tomatoes.
  • My neighbor had a can of black-eyed peas on her counter with an ornament on top. Of course I questioned it (we're here in the Midwest) - and she said it was a southern tradition. But she said it used to be caviar, and that the little black spot on the pea is suppose to represent caviar. Black-eyed peas were the…
  • "Yeah I could buy diet or pepsi max, but I'd rather not drink it at all rather than just a calorie free version. " You answered your own question. If you'd rather not drink it AT ALL rather than just a cal-free version - give it up. I know that sounds kind of simple, but I agree with the one post, then, if you can't give…
  • I take a PM pill from time to time myself. But I get them without any painkiller in it. They are usually the active ingredient in decongestants. But I've heard that Herbalife (sp?) Sleep Now works well and is all natural - melatonin, valerian root, etc. Also make sure there are no lights in the room. Even the dimmest…

  • I like Jamie Oliver very much (and Michael Pollan), but what a sad commentary that we have to sign petitions to save our youngsters. Parents!!! Look alive!!! Be accountable. Keep your children healthy!!!
  • New York Strip Steak, steamed cauliflower, sauteed mushrooms and onions, tossed salad.
  • Recipe please please please :)
  • I'm guessing: http://www.bhg.com/recipe/cakes/applesauce-spice-cake/ It looks really good, doesn't it!!!
  • This time of year is hard for most people who are coping with a loss, whether it happened recently or a long time ago. I'm guessing that your dad passed that "compass" skill along to you, so he's still guiding you through life! If your grief continues, go talk to a counselor...please. Merry Christmas with hugs!
  • I had a pair of yaktrax. Didn't care for them at all. If you had them on for getting into a grocery store, you'd have to take them off once inside because they made the grocery store floor like ice! I nearly fell down and said that's it. Even on shiny glare ice outside, no traction. Get the better ones with the little…
  • To firm the triceps do bench dips. You can do them from any chair at home too. I also use Nivea firming cream morning and night (I'm 58, so gravity is stronger than I am!) and I've noticed a difference. We are ballroom dancers, so firm arms are important to me too. I hear you about the pictures!! UGH!!! And you can add…
  • Did any of you watch the Jamie Oliver special a while back? I used to like tenders as well, until I saw what they were actually made of. All the parts of the chicken that we'd normally toss out (grizzle, skin, etc) they grind up and mix with a filler to form a tender. It was the grossest thing I've ever seen. Definitely…
  • I disagree. Working your arms with moderate weights will tone them nicely - and you can see results in as little as four weeks (I have the pics to prove it). Cardio does burn fat, but as you tone and become leaner, you'll also burn more calories because muscle works harder to burn cals than fat does.
  • The book actually gets me to work out longer. I walk one day and read, and then run the next and lift (sans book).
  • Book iPod Bunge cord (to keep the book open on the treadmill) ;) water bottle tissues (nose ALWAYS runs) cell phone glasses ID card Gloves I wear my clothes to/from the gym. Interesting thread!!
  • I plan mine. But I eat both breakfast and lunch at the office so I'm kind of forced to plan. Dinner is always planned the night before so I can pull something out to thaw or slice or dice whatever is needed to shorten prep time. I do NOT plan ALL my meals on weekends and that is my downfall. I inevitably gain every…
  • Yes they do!
  • This is a great thread. I'm anxious to check back later and see if there are any other suggestions. I use the "maybe later" excuse myself, but it often doesn't work. LOVE the slippery slope response!!!
  • Michael Pollan ("Food Rules") suggests: Eat all the junk food you want, only make it yourself. So make your own healthy chips using olive oil, little salt, and real potatoes. Package into small bags or containers and allow one a day. Make another batch over the weekend.
  • I agree! How about giving us the "can eat" list now?? What exactly should we bring to the office party that won't kill off our co-workers?
  • Hard boiled! Great snack.

  • Oh I'm there on this one!!!
  • I made this for a potluck and it went over very well! You might question the ingredients, but go with it, and trust me. It's really good, and relatively healthy! http://www.grouprecipes.com/79159/braised-red-cabbage-with-cranberries.html Unless you have to bring a specific food group. If you do, send me a msg.
  • What a warm, wonderful post! Thank you for sharing. I lost my biological dad when I was 7. My step dad died a few years ago (who I was also very close to). I don't remember a lot about my dad really. But my step dad was also a stoic, common-sense man. During deer hunting season he'd wear this big brown long-john looking…
