Oh... and regarding "the wall"..... I only physically bonked once. It was on a training run prior to my first marathon. It was a spring race and this was supposed to be a 16 miler. It was one of the first warm days we had. I was pretty cocky - thought I could just go out and run 16 miles. I was not properly hydrated or…

I agree completely with the above posters. They are two COMPLETELY different races. A half is fun. A full is grueling. For most people it's a real test of endurance. Your body and your mind will be challenged in ways you never thought possible. I have done four marathons.... thinking about a 5th this Fall.... not sure I…

I'm still going to run marathons and distance run..... because I LOVE the sport and I feel so damned good after I finish!

Eat 500 calories per day and sit on the couch. They will atrophy before long. Seriously.... just lose the fat on top and they will look much slimmer. Why would you want to lose muscle??

mouth in. mouth out. Don't overthink it. Just run!

That might be the funniest thing I have ever seen on TV.

There are instructions and a tutorial in the box. You need to set up your account online. It needs to know your sex, height, weight, etc in order to calculate steps, calories, etc for you. Go to fitbit.com and sign up.

I'm an Indie girl all the way.

Progestin only birth control methods such as Implanon or depo provera are known to cause weight gain. I'm not on anything. It works for me!!
-
I vote for HRM.... or save $20 more and get a Fitbit

No other ideas. You are spot on.... work your *kitten* off. Oh yeah - and eat at a deficit.

5 hours. That's my longest marathon time. :-p

I got mine a month ago at Best Buy.

I've done 4 full marathons. It is an amazing and grueling experience. It's as much a test of your will power and emotional fortitude as it is of your physical endurance. My suggestions are do a long training plan.... like 20 weeks instead of trying to cram into a 12 or even 16 week plan. Stuff comes up... and it's nice to…

I eat a Clif bar.... break it into 3 or 4 pieces and eat a piece every 5 or 6 miles. I also like jelly beans for a quick shot of energy. I can't stand Gu. So these work well for me. You have to experiment with what works for you though..... I tried a few things and very quickly figured out what my tummy could handle.

I have a similar story... over-pronation and chronic shin splints. I wore stability shoes always with orthotics occasionally. I did exercises for my anterior tibialis muscles, iced religiously blah blah blah. Nothing helped. I made the switch to minimalist shoes and I have ZERO problems now. I wear Brooks Pure Connects.…

Leigh Peele (leighpeele.com) is my idol and guru. ;-0 She recommends cycling your calories. So if you can only control yourself for a day or two... then only live in a deficit for those two days. On the third day give yourself a break and eat at maintenance. This would probably mean that you can have some cookies, not the…

Suggestions.... change your running route so you run back past your house at the halfway point. you can change your tampon there. Use two tampons. I know - kinda weird, but I've heard of people doing it. Just don't forget to take the second one out!! ;-) Take anaprox or ibuprofen around the clock when your period starts.…

.... and NEAT is the whole reason I bought a Fitbit. I wanted to see visually how I could increase my calorie expenditure on a daily basis without exercising more.

This is great advice. I'm a midwife so I know a few things about breastfeeding. ;-)

well played. ...... I think.

Word. I completely drained my iPhone battery using one of these apps on an 18 mile run. Serves me right for not keeping my Garmin charged!

I have a 405cx as well. I upgraded from a 205 last Xmas. I like them both for running and cycling.

Personally, I would work out at the end of the day. I just don't have it in me to get out of bed super early to work out. I like my sleep way too much. :)

To my knowledge - the Forerunner 305 and 405 do NOT track calories burned using the HRM function. They track the heart rate for training purposes, but calories burned is calculated using pace, distance, and perhaps elevation? I have a Forerunner 405cx. I can use it for indoor cardio activities to track my HR and it also…

I love mine also! I'm thinking of getting one as a gift for my very sedentary boyfriend. As others said, it's a great motivator and is just fun to see how active you really are. I was shocked at how few steps I took in a normal day. I do not have a sedentary job. I see patients in a medical office - but turns out I was not…
