Never been a supplement person myself I think it goes back to PTSD of Slim Fast days, LOL! Only thing that grinds my gears is when a "clean eater" has nothing but processed supplements on his/her food diary. I use them a lot for patients, but they have special needs.

Just an FYI I walked into a book store that was having a magic the gathering event and I could smell it before I could see it. Anyways, I remember when geeks and nerds weren't main stream, and I was mocked for my love of the Doctor. I guess I'm just jealous that kids these days can express their nerdiness without ridicule.

OOO I just tasted durian for the first time. It was OK at first like a sweet onion, but the onion taste just lingered in my mouth for hours. I'd be hesitant to try it again. Where does durian fall on your list?

Soy gets such a bad rap there is phytoestrogens in beer the hops, flax seed, chickpeas, multigrain bread, olive oil, and even almonds. It's not quite clear if the phytoestrogens bioavailable to be utilized by our bodies. We are more at risk due to our high meat consumption for breast cancer then soy.

Question, why do you need a supplement to kick start you? Are you going to transition to something different, and if you do how will that look? Edamame is delicious with soy sauce. If you are using a variety of food sources soy can fit nicely into your diet without deleterious effects and provide some beneficial phytochemicals. Switch it up use soy milk one week, try rice, almond, cashew, dairy if you aren't intolerant. All carry different profiles of nutrients.

I don't have time to read all your abstracts, but I didn't see any from a quick pubmed search that addressed long term. Also, the weight loss registry is one of the only sources I know tracking people for years, and most of the long termers use a low fat (aka lower calorie diet) to maintain weight loss.

Did you recently finish a round of antibiotics? Might want to look at some probiotics and some live yogurt to help with the over growth.
