^^^ THIS. I was way out of shape and inching way too close to 300lbs. Zumba has been a huge part of my weight loss (and fitness gain!). There's no question about the exercise part of weight loss being hard. It's REALLY hard. The key, is to find something active that you really enjoy - something that you look forward to…

Zumba is GREAT for the cardio part of your workout routine. It's definitely going to get your heart rate up and burn calories! You still need to combine that with a strength training regimen (weights) - but that IS a winning combo! Have fun!

We do the chicken/sauce/low fat cheese thing and it's delicious - good share! I had a HUGE pizza craving the other day and had very few calories to work with at the end of the day. I decided to see what I could do with eggs. Well, egg beaters actually. I basically made a open-face pizza omelet and it was DELICIOUS. But,…

Unfortunately, home gyms don't count. :-( Any verifiable fitness facility (gym, yoga studio, etc) can be added, but I tried to add a local boot camp program that is held at a ranch and it said "no". :-(
-
That's a really cool idea - incentives at the gym level. How does that work? How many times do you have to go to get to $25?

I laughed when I read your description - it could just as well be me! :-) I have recently picked up a couple of Hip Hop Hustle DVDs, but then I promptly tweaked my back, requiring 2 weeks off. I'm feeling much better this weekend (but NOT 100%) so I might finally get a look at them. They look like a lot of fun! Have you…

I have significant sinus problems, and it's just not worth the drama for me to swim underwater anymore. I have found that using a kickboard and jogging underwater works just fine (for me). Aqua aerobics classes are fun, and teach you great exercises that you can do on your own, too. The key to jogging/aerobics is a good…

Zumba is the BEST! I have the DVDs and the Wii game, but I can't seem to really get into either one. If you can get to a class - do it! There's something about the energy and camaraderie that you get in a class environment. The instructor *makes* the class too, so if you can go try different ones, you should do that too.…

Serious BodyBugg/BodyMedia fan here!! The answer is a resounding YES! You can get the digital display which wears like a watch and you can watch it going, OR you can wait until you sync with the online part and look at the results. What I LOVE about BB/BM online is that it shows you a timeline so you can see exactly what…

I think it's *kind of* like shoveling snow, but not as heavy...so that might be overestimating. I'd say it's more like sweeping or vacuuming, in terms of energy.
-
That sounds awful! The instructor can definitely make or break the class. Keep looking around for a local class (community centers/park & rec, YMCA, etc.) or get the DVDs or Game. You can also find some great YouTube videos of different songs/dances and follow along with the ones that you like. Don't be discouraged!

There are a lot of great suggestions here, for sure. Brushing teeth, followed by a generous rinse with Listerine is good for pretty much ruining any eating experience for at least an hour  And your gums will be so healthy! I wholeheartedly recommend this one.

I do a regular Zumba class twice a week, and a Zumba Toning class twice a week - all with the same instructor. The Zumba Toning is less "dancey" but still sweat-inspiring. You use these cool handweights that look/feel like maracas - either 1 lb or 2.5 (?) lbs. Lots of arm movements, squatting while shaking and shimmying -…

<<-- this girl over here... ridiculously uncoordinated. Dangerously so, maybe. :blushing: The thing is, in a Zumba class, it really doesn't matter. Sure, the people in the front rows make it look easy, as they shimmy and step, but in the back row we are kindred spirits. Things are flying every which way, and it's all good.…

As a serial-baker and aspiring pastry chef, I can totally understand. I'm throwing deliciously bad things at friends all the time (mostly to keep them out of MY kitchen/reach). As a big girl, I'm also very aware of some folk's need to just say "no". Talk about conflict for me too! I think it's fine to politely…

Ohh, I watched these being made (sort of) on TV just yesterday. I am confused by the concept a little bit, though. You just broil them? Is the finished product really crunchy like chips, or more like...well, bendy warm crispy on the edges?

I'm like you - I love food, and like to really enjoy a good meal. Since I'm so busy during the day, it's easy to shortcut those meals and look forward to something nice at the end of the day. I've been doing a protein shake with fiber for breakfast and lunch (each about 250-300 cals depending on what I put in), a few…

I think a simple pedometer would be useless for that. I think the HRM is good for anything that gets your heart rate going, so you can see what kind of physical effort you're putting out. The BB and BMF go a few steps further - they calculate your calorie burn rate using four different sensors - galvanic skin response,…

I am a little intimidated by the "make" prospect, so I will buy it at the store.

Have had both the BodyBugg and BodyMedia FIT - they are both awesome, but I have to say I recommend the BodyMedia device MUCH more. The online interface is better, the device itself is *smaller*, and it's on sale right now! They are normally $169 for the FIT CORE, but I picked up one at Costco with an instant $40 rebate,…

Oh me too! January was always "no-stirrups MONTH". Ow. :noway:
-
Ok, now add a little garlic hummus and *that* is a delicious little snack. Thanks for sharing this!!
-
I would say *absolutely* - huge difference! I wear my bodymedia FIT when I ride, and can identify (from moment to moment, almost) the amount of "effort" put out in a regular ride. When we're working hard on something (lots of core work, leg work...with this lazy horse, LOTS of leg work), the burn-rate is about 11-13…

I think it's time to find a new doctor.

Oh, I can *totally* relate to this!!!! Mine is terrible at night - especially late nights. He decides he's hungry at 11pm, and he can get to the Taco Bell quickly, and wouldn't *I* like something yummy??!?! I say, "no thanks, I'm good". ARE YOU SURE?, wouldn't a cheesy gordita crunch be really tasty right now?? Or some…

Cool site... but I think it's estimating very *high*. using a couple of different devices (bodybugg/bodymedia), I routinely get a burn around 550-650 for medium intensity, and this site says I am burning 947. I *wish*!!

I have both in the house, but I prefer butter. Margarine is a trans fat - and as we all know, trans-fats are bad in a variety of ways. OK, that's one reason to pass on it. It's also been shown to raise your bad cholesterol and lower your good cholesterol... and those are bad things, so butter's probably the better choice.

they look just awful. I guess though, if you were doing a low-carb thing and just needed a "fat-delivery device", they could be drowned in something tasty. Now the tofu noodles... that sounds interesting.

Well, if you had an overindulgent *day*, remember that some of that 2lbs is certainly water weight. Alcohol and salt (yum!) will cause you to retain some water in your tissues. If you've had a good week, and one "bad" day, I doubt the impact will be huge, really. Remember, you have to eat 7000 calories to gain 2 lbs. Did…

The only overestimation that I've heard of, is when you're driving, so folks take theirs off while they're in the car. Hmmm. I have had two different BodyBuggs over the years, which are essentially the very same thing. I just picked up the BodyMedia Core (because of the sleep tracking, and because it's smaller), so I'll…
