Reasons Below as to why Low Carb is not a fad. Low carb is better for insulin resistant people, a real medical issue. One third of the American population is insulin resistant. Having 30 pounds of extra fat greatly raises your chances of being insulin resistant. People who are overweight don't bother to get tested because…

I train on fasted days. In fact I trained yesterday and it was my fasting day. Did a 4 mile jog, 60 pushups and situps. Then I hit the weights for some lunges, lat pulldown, and Dumbbell chest presses. Exercise makes me feel good, even on fasting days.
-
As someone said earlier, the total weekly calorie deficit is the same, so MFP is fine with alternative day fasting. ADF is also referred to as JUDD. I practice it myself, even though I am diabetic, insulin resistant and prediabetic to be more exact. It's better for maintaining a constant glucose level instead of spiking my…

I agree. He's preaching eating vegetables which I don't have a problem with but for someone who is insulin resistant, a normal 1500 calorie to 2000 calorie diet based mainly on vegetables could skyrocket glucose levels through the roof. Vegetables are carbs and they do spike glucose levels, just not as high as sugar or…

No one wants to respond to your post because you're ignorant of the fact that Atkins diet was created for diabetics and works well with anyone who is insulin resistant, which makes up one third of the American population.
-
You gained it all back because you didn't follow the Atkins model, just what you believe to think the Atkins diet is which is not. Read my post above to see why.
-
Doesn't seem that people understand how the Atkins diet really works. The assumption that you eat low or not carbs is only true for phase 1. Once you reach your goal weight, you slowly introduce carbs into your diet at 5 grams a day per week until you find the point at which you gain weight to determine how many carbs your…

http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/insulin-sensitivity-and-fat-loss.html Lyle McDonald explains it best at the link above. Some general info not included in above link is that being insulin resistant is the same thing as being prediabetic. Different names, same thing. One third of the American population is insulin…

I just wanted to throw something in here for the ladies doing low carb that have PCOS, since there is so much wrong going on inside your body. There is a rare and fatal condition called ketoacidosis that is mainly related to type one diabetics but can occur in people with insulin resistance. Even though very rare, you…

Fasting blood glucose test can be deceptive because you've had a good 8 hours to allow your levels to drop. Oral Glucose tolerance test is more accurate because it will test your phase one insulin response, basically how well you handle glucose within the first two hours following a meal. It is extremely easy for a…

Do you know for what function Metformin serves inside of the body other than making the insulin receptors more sensitive? According to the website below, the only other function of Metformin is to reduce the amount of glucose produced by your liver. So maybe you are not insulin resistant and that your liver is…
-
OP said that she's been prescribed Metforim. That's a drug for type 2 diabetics, so it's safe to say that she is insulin resistant.
-
PCOS has a very close relationship to insulin resistants, which means eating carbs can hamper your weight loss goals. The best way to determine if your diet is right for you is through the use of a Blood Glucose meter. You want to be below 90 for 20 hours of the day and below 140 at all times within the two hours after you…

I've never heard that not eating carbs can cause Ketoacidosis. Do you have a source for this? A quick google search doesn't seem to support that idea. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/diabetic-ketoacidosis/DS00674/DSECTION=causes

Just wanted to correct you on some misconceptions. Everything you eat turns into glucose including fat and protein, that is why you don't need carbs in your diet to live. The pathway to glucose for Fat, Protein, and Carbs are all different inside of your body. In most diabetics, the pathway from carbs/glucose to muscle is…

http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/79/5/774.long There is some truth to what the OP is saying but it's still being debated in the scientific community. Link to a real scientific study on frutose above.

This research is very true for those people that are insulin resistant. If you live in America, one third of the population is insulin resistant, which basically means that eating carbs can hamper your weight-loss goals.
-
They do hurt. Overdosing on victims can cause cancer, especially if you take the GNC brand. Most of their brands have 3000% daily Value. Only take vitamins if you know that you're deficient.
-
Because PCOS leads to you being Type 2 Diabetic, in which case you can go blind or have your limbs chopped off. You should also be on low carbs do to your condition.
-
If you have a family history of people who are insulin resistance, it's probably bad for you.
-
The reason I suggest insulin resistance because it is much more well documented, researched, and studied in the medical field. In addition to that, Gluten is a key ingredient in many products that contain carbs. Gluten sensitivity might actually be a thing but where it exist right now, no one can say for sure. All I'm…
-
According to that website, it says that there are no known medical test to determine if one is Gluten Sensitive. So I'm still going to suggest something that you can actually test for, insulin resistance.
-
Thanks
-
Never heard of gluten sensitivity. Is it classified in any medical journals? I believe a much more likely answer is that you're insulin resistance and you can test for that. Buy a blood glucose meter at any drug store for 10 dollars and test every 30 mins after eating 40grams of carbs for 2 hours. High glucose levels mean…

Sometimes, I can't help but laugh at how the health industry is trolling the general public. Drink 8 glasses of water a day? Yeah, it works but do you really want to spend the entire day in the bathroom over 10 extra calories burned in a day? How about eating 6 times a day? Yeah, if you love spending every other hour…
-
It was a joke.
-
Do you check your glucose levels after every meal? Do you know if you're insulin resistance? If you're insulin resistance, you're eating too many carbs. Your glucose meter can guide you on how many you should be eating if you don't have one. You want your glucose levels to be under 100 most of the day or around 20 hours of…

Your friends sounds like a medical miracle . Millions of people around the world would like to know how they managed to make their diabetes disappear and big pharmaceuticals would pay top dollar for that knowledge too, I'm talking 7 figures here. Unless maybe, all they really did was manage their Diabetes by cutting out…
-
If you have a medical issue, no you can not. At 80 pounds overweight, you need to make sure you're not insulin resistance before you start eating pizza or icecream. It will make losing weight harder for you and lead to diabetes.

Metabolic adaption is a better term. People who have done true damage to their bodies are diabetics.
