really? you find that buying canned things is cheaper than fresh? re with kids, I can't relate but i can imagine. you go for things that are more convenient. But remember that you are creating eating habits of your children as well.

definitely yogurt is a good one. handful of almonds too. I often work out late in the evening, get home around 9,10 pm and dont really want to overload my digestive system so late, but still find myself to be hungry, I will have half a can of coconut water, which seems to work wonders. :)

beets are so underrated another really healthy thing to eat in the winter is sauerkraut. tons of vitamin C, really full of fibre, filling, yet 34 calories a cup.

the thing with vegetarians being healthier is not necessarily because they dont eat meat. Vegetarians are generally more health conscious. agree w raw walads kinda sucking in the winter. I just feel cold all the time if I eat salads. So as alternative roasted anything i will roast a beet or a sweet potato or squash and have that as a meal, or a snack. Like with salad, careful what you put on it. personally i find these vegetables delicious enough on their own…

ya nuts are tricky . if trying to lose, staying away for peanuts is the best thing. eat small quantities of walnuts, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, almonds, preferable unroasted and DEFINITELY unsalted. :)
