Thanks, everybody. I needed that. You're all so fabulous and you all bring up very valid and actionable points. Thank you thank you thank you! :D

Good call! Mine has been collecting dust.....:blushing:

I like your approach. :) I think a reality check is what I've been needing all this time, too. Just the "you can NOT eat that today! You can eat that some other time, but you have to make decisions with your calorie allotment and STICK to them." Thanks!

I do like to cook, but school is getting in the way of a lot of my time to do it. I need to get back on that! I need to really be able to quantify calories, at the heart of it. Thanks for the idea!

My Auntie Geeta slices fresh, peeled, raw sweet potatoes into coins, and puts them in a baking dish (one layer--they overlap just a little with every row) with the barest hint of brown sugar, a tiny bit of butter (maybe a tablespoon total for a 9x13" glass dish), a bunch of cinnamon, and crushed pecans. She bakes them…

You're the best guy EVER! I think there should be a Nobel Prize for making all the girls on MFP feel adorable. Also: Awwwwww, shucks! (from all of us) :blushing:

Step 1: Since it might be too early to tell and you might actually still be pregnant: CHILL. Easier said than done, but if you're pregnant, the last thing you need, and the worst thing for the potential baby, is stress. It can lead to behavioral and emotional problems in childhood and throughout his or her potential life,…

Well said, Angie! I think my feelings on your original post were "Yeah--but there's some important information left out," but yes, YES! Having your cake and eating it, too is occasionally better for the sanity than a good night's sleep. My new mantra is 'moderation in everything!" :D

In the end, yes, calories are calories, but how your body uses them and the return on your investment will be different depending on the source. Healthy foods rich in nutrients will keep your bones strong, your heart strong, help reduce your risk of cancer, make your hair and nails shinier and stronger, give you more…

Wow! You've come so far and you're still goin' strong! Congratulations!

Way to go! And we're all here for ya!

I'm going to have to check out that site, but you're entirely correct--life is as much about actual choices as it is about intentions. Hope your day is going well! :)

How come you're fasting, darlin'? I had some chocolate soymilk for breakfast today (yummy!), and a small salad with just a little bit of dressing (I actually eat it with my fingers--I pick up a couple of leaves and dip the very ends into the dressing--it's a habit I picked up when I used to study sitting on the floor in my…

Congratulations! All the best in your new lifestyle! :D

Unfortunately, our bodies are programmed by evolution to use the energy they get from food as efficiently as possible and to store away as much as possible for a "rainy day" that never comes since we're not hunting and gathering anymore. This calorie limiting thing is generally effective only to a point; after that, it…

One of my many weaknesses is Tazo chai lattes from Starbucks. But! Getting them with skim milk is a great way to get my fix without making my poor arteries cry out in anguish. I've been doing that for a couple of years now, and it's soooooo much less of a guilty feeling afterward!

Wow! I'm so glad for you! I just started yesterday, and I'm sooooo excited for my results after my first week! :) Good luck through the rest of your journey--friend me so we can support each other! :)

I had the couple of bites of meatloaf left over from Monday night, some corn, a cup of black tea, a baby hearts of romaine salad with poppy seed dressing on the side, and a freezer pop for lunch. For a snack around 4:00, I had another freezer pop and a small handful of fresh cheese curds, and a can of coke zero. For…

LOL! That's great, though! Here's to needing to buy new undies!

I just started, so this sounds like an awesome way to kick off what I hope will be a fabulous and successful endeavor! :) Count me in!

Welcome! I started this morning--I think this site will be a great resource, since the support is very grassroots and it's ACTUAL people losing weight here--not "results may vary." So come on in, and don't be shy! Everyone here is really nice. :)

Booooo oatmeal! Yaaaaay fitness pal! Bonjour a vous too! I'm from the Frozen North--Minneapolis--but I'm just starting, too. I'm excited to see how this turns out--here's hoping for good luck for both of us!

Ha! Me, too! I've been trying to get my figure from high school back for about six years now and feeling awful about not having the tenacity to stick with anything, and then I read the little blip and watched the video on MSN, and it looked like a good idea. So I'm here. And I think this site is going to be enough of a…
