Don't know the calorie count. My favorite granola is homemade. My wife has made it for me for years. It is fairly easy to make. SHe also make homemade muesli. I usually eat it because it has less calories. It is not baked and without the honey. Usually eat in yogurt with fruit.

Non Scale Victory. When you are getting your diet and exercise in place, but the scale doesn't show it. Maybe it is simply not having dessert at that family dinner on Sunday.

Good luck putting on weight. Just make sure it is the right kind. Simply gaining weight is not healthy. At 20, I am sure the weight will eventually come in unhealthy ways. I know when I was 20, I thought I would always be thin. Then, marriage and poor choices of exercise and food put the pounds on. Good to log your food,…

Agree with the thrust of your myths, but with caution. Eating late is usually bad, simply because when I eat late it is the wrong foods and I am over my calories for the day. Eating bacon grease is uncounted calories, where when I use other oils I am keeping track. I could write reasons against the other myths. But, truth…

Three weeks, 4 pounds. Looks like a little over a pound a week. Looks like a healthy way to lose weight, and a eating/fitness plan you could live with. Good luck.

My wife swears by weight training. We had been watching our food. She had been running, and no weight was coming off. We got a bowflex, and she started using it and lost the 10 pounds she had been wanting to lose. For weight loss, you do small weight with more reps. On the bowflex, for weight loss you do a weight you can…

I bought a Specialized Roubaix in March of 2010. It was an 09 that they were clearing out. Got it at half price. Within a month, the frame cracked, so they replaced the frame. This past spring, the new frame got a crack in the same place. So, now I am riding a 2011 Roubaix Pro SL3. It is a great ride. If you do buy a…

And also without checking your log, be sure to drink plenty of water. More than one study has shown that hunger is often just being thirsty. I also realize that I might be eating al my calories and am hungry, I need to look at what I am eating. It might be a need for protein, or it might just be I am eating too many empty…

Calories burned doing strength training is so variable that they are not included in any standard exercise calories. Yes, you can eat back your calories burned, but the only way to determine this is to wear a heart rate monitor. If you wear one, and figure out the calories burned, you can eat them back.

If you have the personality to exercise in the evening, it doesn't matter. For me, if I don't have it done by noon, it won't get done. By evening, I am ready to simply read a book, watch tv or be with family. Diet, you will be told to keep it under your goal weight and that is what matters. I only have one protein bar a…

I have an original Kindle and really enjoyed it. About a year ago, I got an iPad and gave the kindle to my wife. Because of the kindle app for computer and iPad, I still have my reading list. Plus, with only one account, my wife and I can share books. Don't know if the nook will let you do that.

I have it in the shoulder. Years ago, went to the physical therapist with insurance paying part. He taught me some stretch exercises to deal with it. Part has gone away with losing weight. Now, when it starts to flair up, I do the stretches she gave me. They gave me a picture list of how it should look, so I can remember.…

I have been gardening. Running the rototiller made a sweat. Also, I figure I am growing healthy food to put in my body this summer. As the garden starts growing, the time in it is less, and I will get back on the bike. I figure as long as I am off the couch I am doing well. And, yes, when the rain stops in the Northwest, I…

I see this as a zig-zag diet. I am in this for the long haul, to learn healthy eating habits and gain a new outlook on life. This is another form of diet, and would not last very long. I would simply return to my old eating habits without exercise. I'll leave it for others.

Stop eating before you fall asleep. Late night eating is usually overeating. There are articles about your metabolism slowing down while you sleep so you digest slower, but I don't buy it. I find that if I am under calories in a day, the weight comes off. If that snack right before bed is over calories, I gain weight.…

search C25K online. Many use it. I can't run because of my knee but have heard many success stories. Stands for Couch to 5K. Good luck.

My wife does it by setting the alarm early. When it goes off, she is up before she thinks about it. Sets out the clothes the night before. Plus, she knows I will not go back to sleep if the alarm goes off and she doesn't get up. If she gets up, I can easily go back to sleep. She does the bowflex, treadmill or jogging. So,…

Thank you to all for sharing some of your pain and your stories. I have truly been blessed. My wife and I met over dinner in the college dining hall almost 28 years ago. Went from dinner and visited until midnight. We were married 18 months later and will celebrate our 26th over Memorial Day weekend. Celebrate it by…

When my wife got back into running, she went to a good running store in town and got fitted for the best shoe. Was worth the extra money. Now, she simply orders that shoe off line every time she needs a new pair. Has worked well.

Search for people who eat back calories. Some don't others do. As I read it, I would eat back part of it during the day that you exercise. See what happens. If the scale likes it, keep doing it. Otherwise, change it up to see what happens.

Keep up the good work. Remember, with a society that is overweight and obese, getting near normal is now sickly. My wife has weighed the same since starting high school 30 years ago. When we joined MFP, she lost 15 pounds the healthy way, through diet and exercise, and is right in the middle of her ideal BMI. Yet, when my…

The reason it isn't posted is that all these exercises vary in intensity by workout. You also won't find weight training, because it varies so much. I would second getting a HRM. Not only for this, but for all exercise. I cycle on a really nice bike at about 18 miles per hour. I log it in at 14-16 thinking that was better…

[/quote] on average what is the weight difference between steel frame and aluminum? My current bike is just over 33 lbs. I think the CAAD9 is a great bike. I'm hearing that the included components maybe have to be replaced at purchase. I'm keeping my options open. Hoping to maybe grab a good closeout. Tomorrow I think I…

Novatri--Actually, I own an year old Roubaix with a triple crank. It was a year old model, so it was a 2009. There was a flaw in the carbon, so I got a 2010 Pro frame under warrantee. I am told that there really isn't much difference between a double and a triple. I seldom use one of the front rings. If the double was less…

Discussed many times. Simply do a search. From what I have read. If you are at 1,200, you should eat back some if not all of your workout calories, otherwise you may go into starvation mode. Even with a heart rate monitor, I only eat back about 1/2 of my workout calories. Thing to do is try all three: eating none, eat…

Always cook it on the grill, with a bit of parsley and slices of lemon. Have wrapped it completely in foil and added asparagus with it, both get done about the same time, and this keeps the moisture in. No need to add any other oils or calories. Also have simply cooked skin side down directly on the grill. When done, take…

Exact same boat. I have had it for nine weeks and done a couple days a couple times. Until this past week, I have been out of town 25 out of the past 7 weeks. When I got it, I knew I was gone for a while, but found it cheap on craigslist. Anyway, I am going to simply follow the amount of protein, carbs and fat guidelines.…

I've had a Nike for about 4 years. It is waterproof for swimming, but I haven't used it that way. Found that MFP is very close to what my HRM gives me. I liked the look of the watch and that is why I got this one. I wear the watch every day and it still lasts. I have replaced the battery in both the strap and the watch…

My wife and I continue to build our home gym--most items are from craigslist. It includes: Treadmill, bowflex, free weights, trainer for bike in winter, TV with built in DVD, mats. In a year, we hope to add elliptical. We found the Bowflex on craigslist for only $400, was still a current model for $2,400. Guy just wanted…

Drink plenty of water throughout the day before exercise. I have ridden my bike in the afternoon after donating. Just told to drink extra water.
