I have done this also, I even use my grandchildrens small plates. I have even went as far as to using a timer. I eat fast, I wanted to see if it would help me slow down. Hey what ever work I say is a good thing.

I know what you mean, there is so much food at my job too. There are a lot of events at work and food is brought in by the truck loads. Hard to say NO to FREE and very GOOD food. I run stairs all the time, thats the only workout I did for my first 30lbs lost, I do 17 steps around 1100 times in 30mins.
