  • I agree about the sandwich thing - I had a sliced turkey wrap last night and it put me over the top sodium-wise; there was so much sodium in the wrap (why?) and the sliced turkey (again, why?) that it was worse than a frozen meal.
  • Healthy Choice has been working with Top Chef, and has some excellent new options. I have been eating Healthy Choice and Lean Cuisine because portion control is an issue with me. I need to get a feel for what appropriate portions are. As long as you check the ingredients and find out what the sodium, fat, etc., is and make…
  • Quorn products - who knew I'd actually like non-meat protein? Also Food Should Taste Good chips (the olive ones are especially tasty). They have far less sodium than even most crackers and are very tasty. Sabra Hummus is good, too.
  • I was excited about the fitbit, but am returning the two they sent me, as neither one would sync with my computer. I discovered Endomondo, which is a free app I use on my phone, and it tracks speed, distance, time and elevation for workouts. Of course, it doesn't track every step you take like fitbit is set up to do, but…
  • You'll want to enter a new food, and figure out your calories. I only ate half my oatmeal yesterday and guesstimated my calories.
  • Congrats on your success! I think you will find that when you gain some muscle and firm your body up you don't need to be at as small a number weight-wise as you think. I found that at 150 pounds I looked fantastic, when I thought I would need to be at 130-140. Best of success in getting those last pounds to move!
  • I agree, also having a fair amount of weight to lose, as we lose weight, we have to work harder to get the same results. I'm enjoying using the Endomondo app on my phone and just log in what it tells me I burned rather than taking mfp's estimates. I'm more interested in increasing my regular walking pace on Endomondo than…
  • Congrats! And thanks for introducing me to a new "term" NSV. Glad you beat the hill! I guess my NSV is picking up my pace on walks. I'm tracking it with Endomondo, and am pretty regularly beating 3 mph now. On to 3.5!
  • I've always been told that eating real food is better than supplements. I just use a protein shake when I'm rushed for time. I've been surprised to find a couple of non-meat proteins that I really like. Check out Gardein and Quorn brands. They've gotten so much better at "fake" meats.
  • I would think you need to eat about what mfp says (2200), not eating back the extra exercise calories. It still boggles my mind that eating too little causes you not to lose weight. I'm thinking about taking someone else's advice to keep track of my measurements and not rely so much on the scale because my scale has me not…
  • I've been adding sea salt and pepper to my broccoli, and find I don't need the butter. If keeping within my fat goals wasn't an issue, I would use real butter, but I seem to be going over my fat goal provided by mfp.
  • Cotton socks will definitely cause blistering. There are even some socks out there that are double layer so that the layer next to your foot doesn't move - all the friction is taking by the outer layer of sock. Go to a running store where they really know their shoes and get them to help you. That's what I did, and no more…
  • I will have a Dynamitze whey protein shake in the mornings. It is tasty, and a good source of protein. The protein shake aisle can get pretty confusing. There are meal replacement shakes, shakes for pre- or post-workout, etc. I suggest going to a supplement store where you can get some help in choosing the shake that is…
  • Feeling my heart doing flip-flops and knowing it was telling me to support it so it could continue to support me; also having my feet and joints hurt after walks I used to be able to do easily. I want to be able to walk across town on a regular basis when I'm 90!
  • When you finish up with Jenny Craig, I recommend some of the new Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice meals. It's an easy way to keep track of your nutrition. I just add vegetables and am good to go. I have a harder time when eating out - which I used to do all the time. At this early point in my journey I'm sticking mostly to…
  • It certainly helps to be more accurate when they know your weight; for instance, I use the Endomondo app on my phone to track my walks and once I figured out how to fill in my current weight it upped the amount of calories I was burning. If you're packing more weight than what the app or machine figures is "average"…
  • Okay, everyone may disagree with me, but it seems to me that you are exercising every day and that is alot. Your body needs to rest and regenerate. I suspect with four kids you are also running around alot, so probably are not eating enough to fuel all of that activity. I was actually surprised to figure out that I had…
  • Mine is on its way and I'm excited to put it to work. In the meantime, I discovered Endomondo, which is a free application for my phone. It tracks distance, speed and elevations.

  • Here's where I'm lucky to be single and have only the cat to notice how I'm eating. She doesn't care whether I'm healthy or not, although she has it pretty good, so would like to keep me around. I do recall when I was on a diet once and home visiting my folks, so I cooked dinner. Dad looked at the broccoli without any sort…
  • My FitBit is on its way and I am excited to use it, especially as it tracks elevation now and I have some awesome hills to walk in my neighborhood. I'm not all that worried about accurately tracking calories burned, because I'm not going to eat back all of the calories burned anyway. I like that it will put me into…
  • This may be one of the items where you just use the "quick add calories" tool. It helps to look up specific items so you get an idea how many calories are in a certain amount so you can make good choices. Other than the salad dressing, meat and cheeese, I doubt the other items will add up quickly. I've certainly taken a…
  • I do sometimes include a "cheat day" in my week, a day when I allow myself not to track my calories. I think it is lovely to give myself a rest. I believe if you are eating healthier most days you won't go entirely crazy on your rest day. My body is getting used to eating in a healthier manner, and junk food just wouldn't…
  • I log daily, and love that I can log in from my phone when I am out and about. My body's getting used to the whole vegetable thing because I've never been much for eating my greens, hence my need to lose weight! I lost about 50 pounds a couple of years ago mainly by walking alot, but I'm back to the place where I've gained…
  • I take their recommendation, but try to keep to the lower number and don't necessarily try to eat back my exercise calories that I burned. I'll adjust as I go along, as I'm new to this. I have a FitBit on its way so look forward to having more accurate exercise information than my guesstimates. Before I found MFP I was…
  • It's probably better to drink it throughout the day, but I am notorious for pouring my water and forgetting to drink it, so I do slug it down all at once. Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Nutrition Facts For Foods
  • I like BelVita breakfast biscuits by Nabisco - especially the ones with blueberries in them. You can find them in the cookie aisle. They are 230 calories for 5, so you could adjust to keep it under 200 calories. For something sweet, they really do last a good long while. Also try Skinnygirl Daily On-the-Go bars. The…
  • I agree! That's one of the movies I've purchased for my personal collection. The gorgeous Irish countryside is a plus, as is her shoe designing business, but I love me a great shoe! Gerard Butler is simply scrumptious, as are Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Harry Connick, Jr. You have your pick of gorgeous guys in this one.
  • I'm 53 and new to this site. I have been on Spark People for a few weeks, but love that I can use this site on my new smartphone. I'm single, so thankfully don't have to deal with anyone else in the kitchen, but I'm my own worst enemy anyway. I read a great book, Diary of a Former Fat Girl, and she had some great tips and…
