I am a long time member. I miss the personal blogs and the feeds showing friends status and posts but realized I can post updates here. Also my About Me has disappeared and yet it says not much happening here. Well that is because it has been deleted. So to start off I just retired and my 1st goal is to get healthier and fitter than I was able to get working fulltime. I have lost about 5 lbs, I had really gotten weak. Today I walked 30 minutes and I have been getting in more NEAT. I find it isn't so much how much I eat but what I eat that helps me and exercise helps too.

  • I am finally getting a chance to catch up here today. We had a big family party which we finally were able to do because we have redone our deck, bathroom and finally the kitchen. We still have more to do on our house. I have been finally getting to exercising 6 days a week. I was told to do 30 minutes but have been doing…
  • @SirOnionKnight Congratulations making your goal. @LauraAnn52 I am 71 too. All the best getting ready for your trip. @tahitig I remember seeing your posts from before. I had a hiatus form here as well but just from working a lot. Now I am retired and focusing on health. I am seeing a lot of progress in the recent posts. I…

  • There are a lot of foods that help fight inflammation such as ginger, tumeric (with black pepper), green tea. I wish my doctor would recommend a diet. I have had to decide this on my own.
  • I started by slipping a little spinach or other vegetables in food they loved. They wouldn't eat salads but fell in love with a Ceasar salad at a relatively healthy restaurant we went to so I started making that at home. I found that lemon garlic flavors worked for them. Part of the issue for kids is that they need to get…

  • I actually got back to losing but that just got me to my low at the beginning of the month/end of the last month. We had a big family party now that our house is in better shape for entertaining. Still have things to do on the house. I am hovering around mid 250's trying to get into the low 250's. I only went over my TDEE…
  • @kiteflyer105 congrats on making your goal. My weight is starting down again so hopefully I will be down to my July low weight and can progress. I am back to drinking my Green Ginger Turmeric Tea not everyday but a few times a week. I add pepper to insure the turmeric works. It is good for many things like inflammation,…
  • At the end of July I made a lot of progress losing weight. I had a feeling it wouldn’t last and I was right. I have started to gain back a bit of the weight I lost which is typical of me. My weight usually varies a lot so it was the consistent loss that was unusual. However I looked at my spreadsheet and looked at the…
  • @Jensmakingprogress I relate to much of what you stated as your focus. I need to lose weight to get healthier but health is the focus for me. I am tracking my weight, food and exercise but I have found that when we make our meals at home and I get regular exercise I lose. Exercise isn’t needed to lose but it is needed to…
  • MFP has groups but this is a continuing Thread that is posted each month so it does operate somewhat like a group.

My brother and sister-in-law were talking about a book they had read Outlive so I bought it when I got back since it was just what I was researching about on my own. @tnh2o I have a spreadsheet I…

  • I finally updated my measurements on MFP. I think they were last updated during COVID when I had lost 20 lbs. So some measurements stayed the same and others went up which I expected. Now I can better track my progress. @jo_casey42 Nice achievement staying on track with a trip. Glad it was lovely.

  • Just got back from our family annual camping trip which we haven’t done since COVID. However since my husband is still healing from a car accident (the other guy got the ticket) we didn’t tent it and stayed at an inn at night. They had a beautiful, salt water, big pool so we did our Aquafit before getting back to the camp…

  • Make sure you get some of the good fat like that in avocados, salmon, olive oil etc. They have calories but they help your metabolism.

  • I just got back from one of our family ‘camping’ trips that we haven’t done since COVID. It is with those on my side of the family. Family being my siblings, nieces nephews, their spouses and grand nieces and nephews. I had forgotten we had already declutterd our camping supplies. In the process of getting rid of an old…
  • I haven’t lost weight since my last check-in but I have met so far my goal of staying in the 250’s and out of the lower 260’s. We just got back from our annual family ‘camping’ trip which we hadn’t done since the COVID shut down. I put parenthesis on camping because we didn’t tent it this year since my husband is still…

  • My youngest who lives with us wanted to have a 30 year birthday party so we started really cleaning and de-cluttering. We got the basics by the party but we haven't stopped. I thought we had done the living room except for a built in bookshelf we could go through but last weekend we ended up going through a chest we hadn't…
  • This is what I am doing now. I have always had higher cholesterol even when I was thinner and fitter. But I am now planning to try and lower it naturally without starting on statins. They have learned more about cholesterol from when I 1st started working on trying to lower it. They used to have you stop eating foods with…

  • Last Thursday was my last day of work so this is my 1st week of retirement, but this isn’t a typical week with the 4th in the middle of it. I am switching to a newer computer so that took up most of my time yesterday. We had to file for a tax extension due to my mother’s death last year and estate taxes being delayed. So,…

  • Today I hope to start meal planning again. I also plan to get some exercise today. Just had my healthy breakfast. I am not as much into counting calories anymore. 1. I have doing it long enough to know how much I can eat a day and what foods cause a weight gain. However I started tracking my foods yesterday. 2. I find for…

  • Starting weight this month: 662 5/6: 260 5/20: 257.8 I weigh daily since I vary a lot and I can see the trend better. I check in when I have made progress. MFP says I have lost more than 8 pounds total. I got down to low 250s last fall after 2 trips where I was more active but working full-time was killing me since then.…
  • I even read all of your posts since I posted. I am finally starting to log my food and exercise today. I am still in the research mode to start eating foods that have the most health benefits. I haven't been planning my food yet regularly. I added in another session of aquafit today. I missed going with my husband. I went…
