Start with walking, work your way up to running. I'm able to walk at what is a fast walk for me on the treadmill for a full 60 minutes now. I've lost 15 pounds since I started, but most of that has been since joining here. I also do 2 min. sprints throughout the workout at a faster speed, to work on endurance. I'm still…

Look for a water aerobics class. If that's not an option, try water jogging laps.

Google enell bra. Love it! Very pricey, but one bra holds up for a long time. Also offers great back support.

You want to monitor the quality of the fats you are consuming, and shoot to make the daily fiber recommendation. Oatmeal and whole grains are a good source of fiber. Overall, a healthy diet combined with exercise will help lower your cholesterol. Your doctor was wanting you to work hard to lose weight d/t your cholesterol…

This is very complex for me. I do want to lose a significant amount of weight. I need to lose it, I'm middle age and can no longer count on genetics to keep my relatively healthy. Two years ago at my work, we had to participate in a health screening for insurance. I was eating crap and was thrilled at the results--LDL,…

In the moment when you feel you are overeating, do you know why you are doing it? It sounds like you feel terrible about it after the fact. Perhaps if you can identify the trigger (emotions, stress, fears, etc) and also specifically identify how your body is feeling (hungry? already full? Used to being over-full?) perhaps…

You're kidding right? You don't think it's coming off the bottom? There is a huge difference on the bottom half of your body, as well as the top. You look great!

I can relate to binge eating/compulsive overeating. Feel free to add me if you'd like. I haven't had a true binge in a long time, just chronic overeating that packed back on all the weight I've lost in the past.

I'll send you a friend request. I'm down to 87 pounds to lose (-15 since November, -8 since joining here three weeks ago) and understand the stress of kids, although mine is out of the house now.

No judgments here. Sorry for the crappy relationship stuff. I'd recommend a therapist--in all sincerity and honesty. Someone who can help you establish boundaries with your mom and help you deal with her addiction. It can also help you prioritize yourself, your health, and your self esteem. Peace

There is a link between cholesterol meds and insulin resistance, although this is very, very new information. One of the MDs I work with shared the article with me. Just something she may want to look at with her doctor. I'd also suggest a second opinion. It's very unusual to gain that much weight in such a short period of…

I know you're feeling defeated, but how does your body feel? Do you feel stronger? Can you walk farther than you were when you started? Maybe feeling like you can walk a little farther? What about your energy levels? I know, I know...I want the scale to move faster too, but I just want to remind you to look at the whole…

This x2. If I would have tried to lose weight for as long as I'd thought about it, I'd be at my goal weight by now. Also, I'm a lot like your friend, OP. I was a normal weight in high school, gained in college, a lot of it because of depression. I also have to laugh a little when you say you won't "let" your friend take…

Consider adding weight training. Also, take pictures of yourself from month to month to see a visual on the progress. I have a really hard time seeing progress on myself, despite the fact that some of my clothes fit better, my watch is looser, etc. Body dysmorphia can really get in the way of visualizing your progress.

I've been weighing in once a week. Same scale, naked, in the morning after going to the bathroom. I've only been doing this for three weeks, and twice a month we usually get Chinese food, which I didn't want to give up. I have only gone over my calories a few times, and usually come in around 200 under (net calories) the…

Please check with your doctor on this, as blood potassium levels are important for cardiac function. Both too high and too low are problematic.

Yes, I'm a rather private person, and have kept my new diet/exercise plan to myself. Well, of course my husband knows but most of my co-workers do not. EVERYONE seems to be on a diet at work. Nutrisystem, Slimgenics, Medifast, Weight Watchers, various fasts, SlimFast--you name it, someone at my work is on that diet.…

Then write it on a scrap of paper now and tape it up.

I try to avoid this. I'd leave it. Mainly because I would have become defensive if someone who had lost a bunch of weight commented on my eating habits when I was not ready to make a change. If anything, I'd simply say "If you ever decide you want information on how I've been successful with lifestyle change, let me know"

We make a meal plan and stick to it, for the most part. Some of this is based on the in store specials, some is based on what we feel like. We spent a lot on meats this week, but it will last quite a while. Roast meat was on sale, so I bought several pounds and will split it into 1/2 pound sizes for the crockpot--4 meals…

I'm trying to understand where your frustration is coming in? Because the scale hasn't moved in awhile? Fact is, you ARE healthier than you were a year ago. Isn't that worth it?

You can find it sad, but for me this will be redemption on all the harm I did to my body. It's uncomfortable in hot weather to have sweaty, smelly skin folds on my lower abdomen, along with having to special order bras, and the discomfort that comes along with heavy exercise and large, sagging breasts. I have an F cup, and…

Agree x1000. I wear a 42F right now, and without that Enell bra, I couldn't jog without serious pain, or an eye injury. NOTHING MOVES in this bra. Tons of back support, and seriously, nothing moves! Well worth the money. Yes, one is all you need, just take good care of it. Just google enell bra.

Feel free to add me, although I've only been at this a few weeks on this site. I have been exercising since November. I'm 5' tall and well over 200 pounds. Have lost about 13 pounds since November, most of that since joining MFP.

I really think that you should discuss this with your child's pediatrician. Children shouldn't calorie restrict, but perhaps you can discuss what the appropriate calorie level for a child this age should be. Then it's it up to you and your wife/ex to provide food, and an environment that will provide healthy choices, and…

I agree with this. I did WW on the old points program, and didn't learn a thing about protein, fat, and carb balance. I looked at the three components of fat, calories, and fiber (which is how the points are calculated) and I always looked for the lowest point foods--regardless of the nutritional content

When I started walking last November, I couldn't believe how slow and out of shape I really was. Fifteen minutes at a 2.0 was a challenge. On March 1st, I finished a full 60 minutes at a 3.0. Now my goal is to slowly increase the speed (over the next month or so), but still would like to stay on the treadmill for a full 60…

Step away from the scale :-) I actually had my husband hide the scale, so I focus on things like inches, how I feel, how clothes fit. I will weigh in about once a week still, but that's it. Sounds like you're on the right track mentally, like other posters have commented give your muscles time to recover. Protein and water…

I've been there, and it's completely derailed me. Then after un-doing all my hard work and starting back at ground zero, I've looked at those progress pictures where I couldn't see the progress. It was there, but body dysmorphia got in the way :-( There's no way there are not differences at 57 pounds lost. Are you taking…

Agree! Take the time to put in your recipes now, while you are highly motivated. It will help you down the road.
