  • Great job! I wish more people would be understanding to how mental health issues affects our physical self. Be very, very proud!
  • BTDT. You are NOT alone. I wish I could describe how/when it re-connected for me. I don't have a cut and dried answer to that. Maybe it was when I realized I didn't even have the energy to walk up 2 flights of stairs. Maybe it was when I was taking care of a woman my weight and height and realized how large I really was,…
  • By virtue of changing what I'm eating overall, there are some foods that I eat less of now. Examples: -I try to get three servings of dairy in per day -I try to eat three servings of fruit per day -I try to eat three-four servings of veggies per day In the past, I'd eat a banana a few days a week, and if my Chinese food…
  • Instead of counting calories, you count Points. At least that's the way it used to be. I lost 60 pounds with Weight Watchers about 10 years ago now, but gained it back because I didn't learn a thing. That was not Weight Watcher's fault, it was my fault. However, I won't go there again because why do that when I can do this…
  • Going to give this a try. I have a long ways to go yet. The cardio's going great, but I need to incorporate more upper body and core work. Thanks for the video, very helpful.
  • Agreed. I paid my dues in college at our local Hardee's. That was all I could afford to eat some days. On our AYCE chicken days, the employees would split up the leftover chicken and biscuits at the end of the night. Again, not healthy choices, but when you are living below the poverty line, you do what you have to to…
  • How much weight do you need to lose? 10 pounds or 100? If you have less to lose, it takes more time. Your sodium intake can also affect how quickly things show up on the scale. So if you cut back your intake, but were eating higher sodium foods, this can have a short-term influence too. Just don't quit. Health and fitness…
  • You can certainly lose weight without exercising. Do you want a stronger, leaner body? Do you want endurance and cardiovascular health as well? Then exercise.
  • Very, very true. I hope you reach your goal for your cruise, but I also hope your stay motivated to keep working at health and fitness. Enjoy your cruise! We just booked our first every cruise for my husband's 40th birthday next spring. I have 7 months to keep working towards my goals, but better yet, that will mean I've…
  • I had a co-worker who did this. She really wasn't overweight, just needed to tune up her diet and exercise. Instead, she did Isogenix. She was very vocal about it at work, talked about the cost, the meal replacements, etc. It's a shake thing, and I think they sell snacks too. She took off about 10-15 pounds, as I said, she…
  • I have a friend who tried to stay on the induction phase of Atkin's far longer than was recommended. She had no problems with energy, but eventually would fall off the wagon with restrictions, eat like crazy for a few days--an insane amount of calories too--and then bemoan how carbs are the devil. I actually think I feel…
  • Wow, wonderful difference! Be very, very proud, because this is not an easy journey. I admire your courage in sharing pictures. I'm not brave enough to do that yet. -) ETA: You're adorable!
  • When we did fertility treatments I had to worry about this, my ovaries were huge every month we tried. Walking and water aerobics were the best. I couldn't do crunches, it was just too painful with tennis-ball sized ovaries. Biking was even a little iffy.
  • Well, about once a week I have a "free" meal. Tonight was that night. We went to a cooking demo at a local meat and specialty shop. The chef was amazing, and it was a very small, intimate class with only 2 other couples. It was a cheese class. We had wine with everything and the menu included: -"adult" grilled cheese:…
  • enell.com Best bra ever for jogging. I'm a 40DDD
  • -hunger (physical or emotional) is not an emergency! This is a helpful mantra. -tons of sugar free gum, it helps the chomp, chomp, chomp thing. I've also chewed on crushed ice with the gum, it seems to release extra flavor from the gum, which can help. -Set up your work out routine for trigger times--at least try this to…
  • I started in February at a tight size 20, wearing tight 2x scrubs. I'm down 46 pounds and wear a very comfortable size 16 now. I'd be thrilled to hit a size 10. I don't have lofty goals, just want to keep eating healthy and exercising for the rest of my life. I'm very short, BTW...5 feet. Starting weight was 252. A healthy…
  • Hey, I should join this! I love my Fitbit Ultra, and feel lost without it. I average 13-14,000 per day.
  • That is fantastic!! Congrats on your hard work
  • Can he move in with you? Seriously, he will not find success anywhere unless he is ready to make the changes. Just let him know you will be there for him no matter what, and will support him if he chooses to improve his health and life. Make sure he hears and sees unconditional love from you now, not judgement.
  • Another Wisconsinite, and a nurse too :-) Feel free to add me.
  • I think what you have accomplished is great, and I'm excited for the changes you've made that will give a long, happy life with your little ones. I'm the most touched by the habits your little one is making to build a lifetime of healthy habits. That is AMAZING! I wish this for my niece, who is obese at 8 :-( I live too…
  • This might not help, but I'm very slow as well. I feel like no matter how hard I try, I can't keep up the endurance of a faster pace to get my mile/minute down. So I increased the incline instead. *SHRUGS* As long as I'm getting my heart rate up, and don't give up, I figure I'll eventually make some progress.
  • I finally broke down and joined the gym at work specifically for the weights. Of course, I pay only the taxes on the monthly fees--the monthly fees are waived for employees. I just can't seem to organize myself enough at home with resistance training. I need someone to yell at me and tell me what to do with resistance…
  • Liquids. All liquids count, but if you're drinking more than 5 caffeinated beverages a day this can be dehydrating and counter productive.
  • Agreed, but the American Heart Association is now recommending 1500mg a day for a heart healthy diet. I do monitor this, but don't freak out if I'm over. If you normally eat 3-4grams a day of sodium, and then cut back, you likely will see a change in the scale due to water retention. Big deal, IMO. If you normally eat that…
  • In the hospital, we'd count it as fluid intake. We'd also be serving low sodium versions. However, we also count Popsicles, jello, and all fluids--juice, milk, coffee, soda, etc.
  • Not from Austin, but I've visited and LOVED it. Had the best meal of my life at Truluck's. I think that's how it's spelled.
  • Feel free to add me, I'm 45 pounds down, and at least that much to go. Can I make a recommendation? Anxiety is very treatable, and I hope you were able to get medication from your doctor. However, please consider adding a therapist to this mix. My husband is a therapist and frequently says that anxiety problems are very…
  • My thoughts and prayers are with you, what a difficult situation to be in. I know many people who have had some sort of WLS, and I deal with a number of pts. who have had the surgery as well. It's a mixed bag of success. Some have had a lot of long term success, but there are a lot of long term issues. One friend has never…
