  • Quit complaining. :)
  • I learned "My Very Energetic Mother Just Sewed Us New Pants." :) I guess we won't have any new pants.
  • Don't know if it may be true for you, but when I was 23 (many moons ago), I realized my metabolism had come to a screeching halt. However, my eating HABITS remained the same. I suddenly realized that I had to be more aware of what I was putting in my body for fuel. I switched to munching on fruits and nuts throughout the…
  • I tell my students, "Back in my day we had NINE planets!"
  • I always get the "So, what are you eating today?" I always use it as a platform to educate. I've actually managed to convert a few of my friends and coworkers to be more conscious about healthy eating habits! :)
  • I had Black Pudding ONCE while in Glascow, Scotland.
  • does a BUMP count? :) What was the advice you were looking for?
  • Depending on how my legs feel throughout the week and how hard I have been training, I like to get a mile or two on the track the day before to help dial in my pace. A couple of tips.... 1. Do some ballistic stretching prior to the race, and get in a couple of minutes of running right before the race starts. 2. AVOID the…

  • I teach and coach softball at the high school level, so I am on my feet quite a bit as well. The best thing I can do at the end of my work day is get some exercise under my belt. No matter how dog tired I feel at the end of the work day, I always feel exhilarated after a good run or hard workout. IMO, exercise will benefit…
  • Runner's World always has good reviews of the latest models. That would be a good start. THEN go to a professional store that specializes in running and get fitted. Most reputable places will video and analyze your gait on the treadmill. Personally, I like the Nike Lunarlon series...specifically the Lunarfly. Very…
  • 532 calories? House must have REALLY been in need of a good cleaning! :)

  • I purchased from this web site: http://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com/ Great prices and fast shipping. Plus, they specialize in HRMs. You can use the code VALUEDCUSTOMER for 5% off the price. They had another coupon a back a few weeks ago for 8% off the price. cm8 was the coupon code for that, I believe.
  • This is actually a great training regimin for preparing your bum for the long hours you'll spend in the waiting room of your doctor's office. You exercise for your health and well-being. You eat to provide your body with good fuel.
  • What do you have now? I have the Garmin 405 and the Garmin FR60, mainly because I am more concerned with having pace info for running more so than HR info, but I have been pleased with Garmin as a HRM. Polar and Suunto are a couple of big industry leaders in HRMs, but I have no experience with either.
  • As we Georgians like to say, "It's not the heat...it's the humidity!" :) Doesn't take much to get the sweat rolling in July and August! BTW....great tip on the sunblock. :)
  • Excellent advice! The mental aspect of running is just as important as the physical. I have found that when I have a particular goal set for a training run, I do MUCH better. When I just go run without a goal, I feel like crap! On improving your speed/pace, I have found running intervals a very effective training tool. I…
  • Hard to tell without the HR info. I believe that the 310 calculates based on HR. (I think any of the FR series ending in -10 calculate in that fashion with the exception of the 405CSX and the non-GPS units like the FR60/70.)
  • I think it was Jackie-Joyner Kersee who said the athlete's true strength lies in his/her core. Build that core!!! There is always the debate of low reps/high weight versus high reps/low weights. I am a a fan of the latter. I love going low on the weights and pushing through to max reps. I honestly believe this not only…
  • The running community is by far a very supportive group! I have experienced that at nearly every race I have ever run--from 5K to 10K to half-mary--the first ones to finish are usually the first ones to stand at the finish line and cheer you on to completion. Many even run back up the course to run beside and help…
  • Sounds like a fun weekend! The Critz/Tybee Island run here in Georgia offers 5 events and spaces them out so that you can do all five. 5K on Friday night. 10K early Saturday followed by the Half-Mary. Then a 2.8 mile beach run and a 1 mile fun run. All equals up to 26.2 miles. Never done it myself, but it is on my to-do…
  • Same here, but I just started a couple of weeks ago. I am planning on doing the Chest/Back, Plyo and Arms/Shoulders for a while while doing my training runs on the other four days.
  • That makes total sense. Thanks!

  • Congrats! Five miles is a milestone, for sure! Do yourself a favor now and register for a 10K! :)
  • I tried Creatine supplements some years back for three months and developed terrible headaches. I don't know if this is a common side effect, but it caused me to stop.

  • According to the old 220-age formula, my max rate is 183. However, I often go above this when doing hills and intervals. I usually stay around 160-165 while running. I did an LSD today of 10.5 miles and averaged 165 doing a 10:16 average pace. I love having the HR info, and have learned how to monitor my pace in…
  • I had shin splints playing college ball and our athletic trainer recommended better arch supports. The pain started in my outer knee, eventually worked up my leg into my butt, then the shin splints came.....pain of all pains. :) Definitely get fitted and go with the recommendation of a professional. I went through two pair…
  • I've done the Gu Gels and the Accel Gels. Gu gel is pretty sticky and viscous...definitely recommend having some water to help it on down! The Accel Gel is more of a slimy texture and easier to down without water. Sounds appetizing, doesn't it? LOL! I also like my gel to have a little caffeine in it for an added boost. :)
  • They're called "quads" for a reason. :)
