  • My wife pulled a really solid 225 at 5'2" and 105lbs with a belt and chalked hands. Pretty proud of her. Since then she started a business and has fallen off at the gym so she hasn't been even attempting anything heavy
  • I made it to about 500 days then took a day or two off. Now am starting over at about 10 days
  • I love the EliteFTS videos. They have dead-lifting and bench press tutorials as well. Their people seem to be really solid teachers.
  • Take the time to learn to squat properly and you should be fine. The fact that you are able to run and spin without pain tells me you're probably gonna be fine but only you and your doctor know for sure. If you are doing squats and you experience pain you are: 1. probably doing it wrong like allowing your knees to buckle…
  • Congratulations! I would love to see more couples doing this. My wife and I workout together. She matches me set for set in the weight room including squats and dead lifts. I absolutely love lifting with my wife and she is a better partner than any of the guys I have ever lifted with. I am damn proud of my strong little…
  • That's a good point, walmart does sell the big econo bags of chicken breasts. That plus eggs and maybe some lean beef and stuff and you're good to go.
  • Nope, the good ones are at Target, everyone knows that. Seriously though. That's what Creatine does, it stimulates the muscle to draw water and other nutrients into the tissue. Getting stronger is achieved by hard work in the gym, lifting heavy stuff and putting it back down. Getting big is achieved by doing the same thing…
  • You can go into your settings and turn off the daily completion button on the mobile app, that way you don't get the daily weight projection. Or you could just not hit that button when you're done entering stuff for the day. Results don't come from the computer, they are real world. Make and keep a spreadsheet of your…
  • One more chiming in in favor of Wendler. I am finishing up cycle 6 and have not missed a strength goal yet. I love the way it steps up then steps back and approaches it progressively to break through the next goal. I have added some volume in the form of extra sets/pyramid sets in order to add in some hyper trophy aspects…
  • Holy hell, this is a lot of info, thanks so much for taking the time to type that out. I too like the basics and am all about squat, bench, deads, pull ups, over head presses. I don't do a lot of curling but I do add them on my upper body days. I am making strength gains pretty consistently and have kept up with the 5/3/1…
  • All of your advice was well taken and I am considering going higher again at the end of this month pending results this month. However, I used to be a subscriber to icecreamfitness and dropped it when every video started to be about fake natural blah blah blaha (see what I did there?), and youtube middle-school-style…
  • Thanks to all who replied. I kind of thought I was just being impatient and it's hard to allow myself some fat gain after working so hard to cut it off the first time. My protein is that high because when i increased calories i needed to get them from somewhere. I very often will not fill the quota of protein. P/F/C is…
  • In addition to the above, I went into the settings on my phone and turned off all the stupid facebookish status update crap and whatever. What i have now is a calorie number, and a full nutrition label showing current intake level and remaining amounts of each nutrient on the list. Really helps me pick what to eat if I…
  • I've had no issues with it and I agree with the above. Are you positive it isn't a connectivity issue?
  • I tried to hang with P90X for a while and decided I just didn't like it. The classroom thing is not for me at all either. I prefer to go in with a goal in mind and stack up a routine myself that pushes me toward that goal. If something is off I can change it up, if something is being used I can change it up. I definitely…
  • There is a lot of debate out there about whether or not to load at the front of a creatine cycle and almost as much as to whether one even needs to cycle creatine. I have not done a load phase with creatine but it is obviously working because when I am NOT using it, I can see/feel the difference within a couple of days.…
  • I started on Creatine mono while still losing and aside from the initial water swell it didn't seem to slow me down at all. C4 is pretty gnarly stuff, I use it sometimes. Maybe let him try working out after a shot of espresso? It's pretty similar from what I have experienced. You're getting a lot of great input from pretty…
  • As I understand it, and I am no expert, recomposition is used more in reference to attempting to make lean mass gains while also cutting fat. The TDEE spreadsheet I have been using has an approach for this recomp stuff in which it recommends calorie cycling. In this approach; I would eat say 2850 calories on a lifting day…
  • Pretty much this for me too. I do two leg days per week and I rarely get sore anymore. I don't think anyone would accuse me of not working hard enough either as I do my sets of squats, then box squats, then leg accessory stuff including standing calf raises with as much as I can stand under on the bar.
  • ^^^This, I'm not a trainer but as a cop I hear this all the time too. People always tell me "I could be a cop" either because they "know" my profession based on what they have seen on TV or because they have talked to a cop once or twice and think they know what is needed. Same here, it's not all the glamour and easy…
  • +1 more for no classes. I know what I am there to do and I don't need a leader or people to share it with. The ONLY person I enjoy working out with is my wife, she has the same level of drive I have and is great at deflecting the distracting chatters. We run interference for each other.
  • Been told that I was "crackhead skinny" by my coworkers, although jokingly My best friend's mother, whom I have known for 27 years told me I was "skinny" I am back up 7 pounds since hitting my low at 198 and have been slowly building muscle since. The last thing I want to be is "skinny"
  • I do box squats with a bench but I am 6'3" and a bench is just about the right depth for me, maybe just a tad high but it's the only other thing available for me in the weight room other than platforms that are WAY too low. I use them after my heavy squats as an accessory lift. Most people probably should not squat to a…
  • My wife squatted 175 for 6 today @104lbs then did box squats, calf raises, and leg curls. She has been lifting heavy with me for more than a year now. She can bench 125, deadliest 185 for 3, and can rock out 8 pull ups and 10 dips. NOT BULKY IN THE LEAST The squat pic is not from today, just a good example. I also took the…
  • Thank you all for the kind words. I am pretty proud of how far I have come and want to keep it going as long as I can. I am 6'3" since someone asked. As far as my specific diet and workout stuff goes. I ate a moderate deficit 4-600 cal/day for most of the time and kept my metabolism high. I was not afraid to hit a refeed…
  • I've been down about 50 and have since added 5 or so intentionally the slow way. When I look in the mirror I definitely see the difference but I am still highly critical of myself. I don't see the massive change in my body, well I do but I focus more on what I still don't like. I can see my abs but all I think about when I…
  • yup, was gritting my teeth and wringing my hands all day today on what is not usually a rest day for me.
  • I also really like Elliot Hulse on YouTube, he has great strength training videos and is a really good deadlifter too.
  • Pre-workouts have their place. I like them because I tend to be at the gym within half an hour of getting out of bed. I would say that if you're going to try a typical high caffeine load stimulant like C4 for example that you should spend a few days, up to a week, without much or any dietary caffeine. After quitting or…
  • My newest favorite is my Bose IE2. The shape of the ear mold mimicks the earpiece I wear at work and is comfortable as all get out. Plus since it has more points of contact to your actual ear it doesn't so much as move when I run or do anything else unless they get pulled on.
