Don't really know where that would come from. Whey protein is just an easy way to supplement needed protein instead of getting it from food.

Yeah 500 cal/day deficit should result in a 1 lb a week. If you're having trouble staying full, try more protein and fat rich foods. One food I love is cottage cheese and man is that stuff filling. Macros are great for it and its a great snack.

I just find high protein and high fat foods more filling than high carb foods. Its really easy to gorge on some high carbs foods and get a lot of cals, but things like chicken breast are a lot more filling for their calories.
