  • I find that the estimates given for housecleaning on MFP are highly overestimated. I just heavily cleaned my house for the past 3 hours (have company coming). When entering that into MFP, for light housecleaning I get 616 calories or 205 per hour, and for heavy cleaning 739 calories or 246 per hour. But per my BodyMedia…
  • Last week: 183 Current: 181
  • Be careful if you sweat a lot! I ruined my iPod doing this. I sweat a lot when working out and the moisture finally started shorting it out. I can no longer use the rewind or pause buttons and there are now some lines at the top of the screen. Only happened after I started tucking it into my bra.
  • I have a Nike+ armband, which I love. My only complaint is it doesn't have a keyholder, so I tie my key into my shoelaces and then tuck it into my shoe laces so it doesn't flop around (and of course double tie!).
  • I have always sprinted as I don't like long distance running. I get too bored running for a long time. It was never because I thought there was an advantage to it, but I was pleasantly surprised when I heard this discussed on a fitness podcast a few months ago reviewing some studies that came out about this very subject.…
  • Clean eating doesn't have to mean deprivation. There are plenty of delicious foods/treats that are considered "clean." I still have an occasional junk treat now and then, but like the poster above, I immediately regret it as I now realize how horrible those foods make me feel.
  • That is why I went with BodyMedia too. I have always considered myself sedentary, but I didn't realize how much little things really do add it. I was surprised to find that I actually burn more each day than I thought. It is also amazing to see the difference in calorie burn between a workday when I am sitting at my desk…
  • Yes, I do. I eat a lot of them and they really add up throughout the day.
  • What does "work around it" mean? I would not sign a 12-month agreement for a trainer. Personally, if you are just looking to learn the machines and get started on a routine, I would do the free option to start and go from there. When I have used a trainer in the past, I never had to sign an agreement. I just paid as I go.…
  • I have it and love it. It is motivating for me to see all the numbers. It tells me throughout the day if I am going to hit my goals or if I need to bump up my activity for the day. The only thing I didn't like about it initially was the food log as it didn't have many of the foods I eat in it and I was spending a lot of…
  • I personally find clean eating easier when trying to lose weight. When I first started trying to lose weight, I just dropped my calories thinking that was all I had to do. I failed miserably. I was eating 1500-1700 calories a day but I was starving all the time because 1500-1700 calories of junk is not a lot of food. I…
  • I like them simply steamed. I tried roasting them once with the olive oil as above and thought they were too dry. Don't know if there is a trick to cooking them that way, but I didn't like them.
  • LOL! We live in Hawaii and our 7-year-old son doesn't still quite get that not everyone lives on an island. When we meet new people, he always asks what island they are from.
  • Aloha! I'm Sherry from Hawaii. I am a work-at-home mom and homeschool our 7-year-old son. I love homeschooling and am so glad we decided this path, but it is definitely a challenge to balance it all and I often find it is my own health and wellness that gets the short end of the stick. I am really trying to change that and…
  • I have found this too. When I have a craving for something, I make a cup of peppermint tea. By the time I am done drinking it, I find the craving has usually disappeared.
  • Thanks! I did not realize this either. Guess I never did the math, but that is right because 12 weeks would only be 84 days. Nice catch!
  • I am a medical transcriptionist. Don't love the job, but it has allowed me to stay at home with my son and gives me a lot of flexibility with my schedule, which is good as I also homeschool and our schedule is never the same from day to day with all the different activities we like to do. I recently started a pet-sitting…
  • Lose 8 pounds Workout 6 days a week with Jillian Michaels Body Revolution. Eat at least 5 servings of veggies/fruit per day. No soda.
  • Waikoloa, Hawaii
  • Hi, Fridays is my usual weigh-in day too, so I will join! I am 36 and started at 214. I am now at 183 as of today, but still looking to lose at least another 40 and definitely need some accountability.
  • I agree that those types of activities should already be taken into account when you set your activity level. By then also tracking them, I think you are then counting them twice. If I am more active one day from housecleaning or walking to the store, I just let it be extra and don't worry about it. It really isn't going…
  • You don't need a lot of money to eat healthy. Prepared foods at school are much more expensive than buying healthy food at the supermarket and taking the time to prepare your foods. When I was in college, I also worked full-time and I know it is difficult to juggle all that and still live a healthy lifestyle, but you have…
  • If you are trying to save money, why not pack your lunch? You can choose healthier options and save a lot of money.
