Apologies to the OP for the thread jack.... Thanks for the response; this is the kind of info I was looking for. The AMRAP in a set amount of time thing turned me off when I was looking into this a month or so ago (the $200 monthly fee on top of the $150 On Ramp course was another turnoff). It does look like a lot of fun…

I'm not trying to be argumentative, at all. I'm just curious about this as the trend is getting pretty hot here. What makes you say the program is random? What types of crossfit lifts do you think are damaging? Aren't all crossfit instructors required to be certified personal trainers?

Relax. You got some real and valuable input on how dangerous/useless wearing garbage bags with working out is. No reason to find the ones that piss you off and ignore the rest.

It may do bad things to cartilage.....damage.... Read the research and see what you think.

The high heart rate is fine. I wouldn't do the bulk of your running there, but it's fun to run fast, right? :). It also helps you become faster in the long run. If your goal 10K is outside, I'm assuming it is, try to run outside as much as you can. Hip pain in beginners is often a sign of muscle imbalance and/or Too Much,…

Whats your diet like? Are you varying your levels of cardio intensity? Have you taken photos/measurements? Also, add some resistance/strength training in there.

My boyfriend was on anti-anxiety meds from about age 21-28 (he's 30 now). A couple years ago he started running avidly and really got into yoga and rediscovered his love of biking. After a while he just started forgetting to take the pills. Now, about a year and a half later, he's completely off of them and hasn't had any…

Asked and answered. Yeah, it blows, but there isn't anything you can do about it. I was in the Publix the other day and perusing the magazine aisle. One of the popular women's "fitness" mags was telling me how I could blast inner thigh fat in only 20 mins a day. This is one of my biggest bane's when it comes to my body.…

bodyrock.tv hulu.com has workout videos. Go outside and go for a walk? P90X always mixes things up for me. I like it.

Having never been pregnant I didn't feel right about saying that advocating a tummy tuck as the overall solution is ridiculous. I'm glad to hear someone else say it. I think when it comes to fitness (and the vanity aspect of working out) surgery should never be the first choice.
-
It shouldn't be a last resort. It should be a major part of any fitness program. Your shoulders might fill out a bit but you'll also lose inches overall and improve your body's function. If you want that layer of fat on your stomach and thighs gone, a good lifting program will get you well on your way to your goal.…

Do weight training.

37 days isn't very long. I think your biggest challenge will be running outside since you've used the treadmill exclusively. Don't overdo it in the training and enjoy the event.

Frozen grapes are awesome! For me though they bring on bear attacks, so I save them for the last 2-3 miles. I like gummi bears, it's a nice little hit of sugar. I'm also a big fan of banana chips. I have a ultra runner friend who eats a lot of honey. It makes me nauseous though. Granted, he runs in minnesota and I run in…

How long do you have until the event? What kind of mileage are you running now? And yeah, get off the treadmill and run outside.

I have 6 days left in Stage 1. I love it. I plan to make some modifications to the program after this (tired of having to go all over my gym to do things in the order they suggest). The most dramatic change has been the improvements in my strength and how I function. It's been fun to track strength gains. I do wish the…

Don't do only cardio.... Do some HIIT. I throw in longer runs on occasion because I like them and because I want to get a PR in a 10K this summer. Lifting is where you will really start to see your body change and create an even bigger calorie deficit (aside from the kitchen of course). Again, reference:…

I'll just add another vote to throwing in weight lifting. Even at my lowest weight while I was training for HMarathons/Marathons pretty much constantly I hated the fat left on my stomach. I had very little core strength to speak of. Now, with under 3 hours of lifting a week I am finally seeing differences in the strength,…

Probably about 50 calories. So, like a rice cake. Careful. Some studies have shown cartilage damage from vibration plates.

Definitely slow your pace. Cramping generally means you're running too fast for your current fitness. If you exhale on the same foot each time, you might get side cramps. Also, focus on running easily and naturally. If you're carrying a lot of tension in your shoulders, that might be why you are getting pain.

http://www.thebodygenesis.com/myths-under-the-microscope-part-1-the-low-intensity-fat-burning-zone/ This is just one article on it. If you really want visible and tangible results strength train heavy, eat right with enough of the RIGHT KIND of calories and try to ignore most of the hokum you see spouted. I am a bit of a…

I wouldn't do it after eating just for comfort reasons.

Bad advice. It is true that lower intensity activities draw more from fat stores, you also burn fewer calories overall. Higher intensity exercise gives you more bang for your buck. You will create more a calorie deficit if you work harder. Pretty simple math. Do some research on it and see what you think.
-
I think both are necessary. Cardio burns fat right now. Muscles boost metabolism always. Plus, when you strength train not only can you pick up increasingly heavy $#i!, but you also increase your bone density (who knew bone was a living tissue? not this girl for a long-*kitten* time.) Don't be afraid to lift heavy and to…

Hot Yoga is a blast. Unlike the PP I don't consider it as cardio. (Search the forums for another recent post on this where the same thing is discussed.) Be very careful not to over stretch. The heat will aid in your movement, so you'll feel more flexible. For your first time, err on the side of caution!

All this does is prohibit your body from using sweat the way it was designed to. The trash bag is keeping it from evaporating and lowering your internal temperature. So, unless you've got to make weight for your next boxing match, I'd ditch the trash bag.

I think you should define your goals first. That always helps determine what you should be doing.
