:noway: Most common road cranksets are either 54/39 or 50/34. I think the 50/34 with a 12-25 or 11-28 cassette is a good choice unless you're racing, because you can get up pretty much any paved hill on that.

Well if you're working out outside the gym there's no reason to force yourself to go. Over summer when it's warm and there's lots of daylight I am riding my bike outside more than going to the gym. Come winter I'm less inclined to go out on the roads after dark.

It's not just one more gear in the more expensive model, it's better quality in all the parts - the gear shifters, the gears, the chain, the brakes, even better tyres. I would go for the better model personally.

I've got the Aria. It connects to your home wifi network then syncs directly with the Fitbit service - you don't need anything on your home computer. Then you can login to their web site to see the stats, and you can also add the Fitbit app on MFP to get your latest weight and body fat % from Fitbit automatically. I like…

I think you've gotta find something you enjoy doing. I love cycling so I don't think of it as exercise, I just love to get out on the bike. Second best is to just keep going until it's a habit. It's taken me ages to get back into weight training, but I'm glad I have. I find the soreness/fatigue really satisfying.

The Fitbit Aria reads about 0.7kg (1.5 lb) more than my previous scales. 6 lb is a big difference.. try not to be too discouraged.

I broke a chair at the office, at my first job. It was very loud. People came from all over to look what the noise was. Very embarassing.

My feet shrank from 12-12.5 to 11 when I lost 50kg a few years ago. Good to know it's not just me :)

Yeah that's probably right - the shorts are intended to be worn without underwear. Otherwise you get chafing where the seams rub. Sounds like her shorts were just a bit thin - they wear out over time.

Shocking article. Yes, runners are prone to injury but there are plenty of non-impact forms of cardio eg cycling. I don't see any evidence of the impact on the immune system - I regularly cycle 200km+ in a day (as do lots of people I know), taking 8+ hours, and we don't get sick like that. Toxic air? I go riding outside…

Melbourne here too (Forest Hill).

Feeling it in Melbourne too. Protein warms you up (takes more energy to digest than carbs, as I understand it). More suggestions here - http://firecareers.com/blog/body-heat-and-protein/

Great work! Amazing.

Awesome work Karen.

Actually that's not right, since cycling isn't a weight bearing activity and you're not riding up a real hill where gravity matters. Only your fitness (ie your efficiency) affects how many calories you burn. I ride thousands of kilometres a year outside but I still like to go to spin classes when the weather is bad or when…

We have 10 year passports here in Australia.

Good job. My current passport is 8 years old and I lost about 55kg in the year or so just after getting it. I had trouble with immigration officers not believing it was the same person again just last month.. Some of them think it's funny, some think it's amazing, some think I'm a security problem. I might even get a new…
