Then you should try Shimano and see what you're missing out on :-) Seriously though at least Shimano has the cheaper option in Ultegra Di2, while Campag still only has the top-level EPS.

I have two bikes with Ultegra Di2, and you can probably guess from that that I love it. Properly adjusted mechanical Ultegra works really well too. But it needs adjustment as the cables stretch, and cable replacement, and the shifting gets lousy if your chain is dirty, but all that keeps going fine with Di2. I hear the…

You'd be better off just eating the fruit.

On a few topics, I liked Ride the Divide - film - mountain bike race, already mentioned Hell on Two Wheels - book - about the Race Across America Thunder and Sunshine (and the sequel) - book by Alastair Humphreys - about touring around the world. The Man Who Cycled The World - book by Mark Beaumont - about a racing tour…

Oh, yes they are. I have some $50 shorts I wouldn't want to ride 30km in. But then you defined 30km as a mid-distance ride, while I define 200km as a mid-distance ride.
-
Oh your spelling of weird is weird, in case you were wondering ;-)

I've got a Ti bike made by Enigma Titianium in the UK and it's very nice. It's similar to a Lynsky Sportive. I don't think it feels radically different to carbon but a little smoother. I still ride carbon bikes too though.
-
I second all the above. I ride long long distances (hundreds of km a day sometimes) and I don't get hand problems. Change positions regularly on the bars. Usually you wouldn't spend all your time in the drops except when riding into a headwind or descending a mountain or racing. Also make sure your bike fit is good so…

I've got no first hand knowledge to help, but I'm reading Scott Jurek's book on his career as an ultra marathon runner and he's a vegan and gives some advice and recipes in his book. Might be worth a look.…

That article was a bit misleading (and quite a bit of scaremongering). DOMS is not a sign of too much exercise, for one thing.
-
I think you're getting sweaty mostly from the heat and vibration of the mower. You're not actually getting that much exercise pushing the mower around an average sized block, you are pretty much just walking!
-
It's not clear that they actually work.. check out http://www.amateurendurance.com/injury-topics/article/compression-gear-fact-vs-fiction for example. Also they're usually intended to be worn after exercising to aid recovery, not during exercise.

Damn, I want a glazed donut now.

Says who? You should read Born to Run (McDougall) at least.
-
You weren't skin diving though, you were on scuba with neutral buoyancy or close to it. Your weight shouldn't matter while you are in the water.
-
I think 400+ calories for an hour's dive is way too much. If you were working that hard you'd have used all your air much quicker than that. Generally you want to make it as LEAST strenuous as possible to preserve your air (and minimise DCS risk). Diving (especially in cold water) makes me dehydrated and cold, both of…

Consider it an opportunity to practice your sprint....

Err, sugar comes from plants you know.

Well the highest heart rate you can manage burns the most calories. BUT it's not that simple. You can't sustain the higher heart rate zones for long because you are relying on the glycogen in your muscles and once that's gone you're out of energy. At lower heart rates you can burn fat and you can pretty much do that…

You look great. Well done.

Check it out here on Strava - http://app.strava.com/segments/1774855 - Strava is a ride tracking site. They say 8.9% for 2 miles, with a section near the bottom being 10%. Fastest time up there is 20 minutes so you have something to aim for!
-
That looks like 900 feet in 2 miles, which is 8.5% - that's quite steep for 2 miles. And 8.5% is quite believable since the road switches back there. (Sounds like a fun ride!). Still I think the 590 calorie estimate is not too bad.
-
I think the 590 would be fair, no more than that. Are you sure about the figures? That works out to a 3.8% gradient which isn't very steep really. This might be a case of what you're used to though.
-
I cycled 200km on Sunday (nearly 10 hours). My bike computer estimates I used about 5,000 calories. I ate a couple of thousand extra at most - how on earth would I eat 5000 ?!

I like plain water but sometimes I just forget to drink enough. You can actually drink too much, but it's litres and litres and usually only experienced by endurance athletes. You can end up flushing out too much sodium and suffering hyponatremia - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyponatremia. But don't worry about it.
-
Mexico actually. I don't run but I just started the book and it's pretty hard to put down.

6'1" here. Eight years ago I dropped from 150kg to 90kg. That crept up to 97kg over the last few years. Aiming for 90kg again now (198lb), and if that's not too painful I'll think about 85kg (187lb), which would be about 20% body fat I think. Haven't been 85kg since I was about 14..
