  • Have you got a local club you can speak to? I found out there's a group at work that go for a regular ride which has been great. Also check out the Sky Rides and possibly even the British Cycling websites, one or both have a page where people can post dates & times to organise rides.
  • I think it made a lot of people more aware which can only be a good thing. It'll take a lot more of it to effect a lifestyle change across the UK to reduce obesity levels but it's a start none-the-less. I remember starting on here and the realisation of exactly how many calories are in stuff, people need to be educated…
  • welcome back :)

  • Being good's kinda ingrained now, so I tend to pick the best 'bad' option - although my general rule is enjoy the holiday and deal with the fall-out after
  • Sounds like you've got a good plan there, reckon you'll definitely hit your target! Added you too.
  • lunch - that was salad (lettuce, beetroot, sweetcorn, carrot, cucumber, french beans, tomato, celery, a little rice and a boiled egg.
  • I found the title was more about pulling in viewers rather than a description of the program content. It was ok viewing, but it all boiled down to eating the calories you burn - eat more than that and you get fat, eat less and you'll lose weight - nothing new there then.
  • I think we all get it to a degree, sometimes you just need something sweet! I guess the best thing you can do is manage it and avoid the highs and lows, try cutting out the foods with excessive sugars in and try substituting chocolate bars etc with better sugars like fruit. I cut down from 2 sugars in hot drinks to none…
  • thanks, had the bike a while now and loving it (not as much as MTB though). Have even done the RideLondon which was great fun, albeit the wettest ride ever. Went down the shimano route for pedals, surprisingly still on my first set of cleats although the next set are on the workbench and will be needed soon I expect. Main…
  • Cycling (MTB or road) is my main 'thing', with a bit of running on the side. It'd be snowboarding if I had the option to do that every day but that's confined to holidays mostly.
  • This has been a great programme in terms of highlighting the power of branding and that if you look past it you can find the same or better for cheaper under a 'lesser' brand. You could apply the same thinking to pretty much everything else you buy. In reality you're not likely to go to 4 supermarkets a week but it does do…
  • For burn - both the same, if you find you burn less calories on one or the other you're not pushing yourself to the same level. As for your question, the 'better' one if burn is the same - pick the one you enjoy most. You could spend all day discussing the relative impact levels, muscle groups used, likelihood of injury…
  • Send them out for a left-handed screwdriver .....
  • Hi and welcome back! it's definitely better to have friends on here, great for help, advice and support as we're all in the same boat. Feel free to add me (and that goes for everyone else too)
  • My goals are to get rid of that belly fat and get to 77kg (ish) and I'm getting there with about 5kg to go. The weight target is my personal goal as I had a proper health assessment last year and they actually said my weight is ok but they said I needed to lose a few cm off my stomach so I guess that's my big goal as the…
  • Hi Melissa. In that case you're in the right place - what are your goals then? Me, I've about another 5kg to lose till I'm where I want to be and am getting there slowly but losing weight fast was never my goal in the first place. I'd rather do it right and make the changes that stick so that when I get to maintaining I do…
  • Sounds like you've done great so far! 28lb and 17 weeks to do it so it'll be a challenge but I get the feeling you're up for taking it on. Glad you've found a plan that works, too many fad diets out there that don't work as they don't promote a healthier lifestyle so a lot of people seeing their good work go to waste (or…
  • Haven't used one as yet so I guess I'm in he same boat as you - I'm most tempted by the Garmin Vivosmart (or whatever their new watch/tracker is called) as it'll do the fitness tracking thing as well as the extra you'd expect from a Garmin like HRM support and run/cycle tracking. Am interested in what Apple are about to…
  • I think MFP's better to use in this case - unless of course you're really going for it in the gym! Just checked my Garmin account and most I've done is around 820cals/hr my average is around 650. MFP may be a little light in this case but like you say, it's best to go with the lower number where exercise is concerned.
  • I'd give anything made with cream a miss - that may exclude your tikka masala though. Naan bread's a bit calorie heavy too (although I do love a peshwari!). You could go for a walk in your lunch hour or think of some other ways to bring down the impact of a night out. We all have a night off once in a while so don't worry…
  • What's a quest bar? Hmmm, maybe that answers your question! Ok, so I googled it, seems plenty sell them online but no idea if there's any shops that sell them.

  • My general rule is a big no. But in this world we live in we spend most of our time at work so there's a pretty good chance you'll meet someone there too. I wouldn't suggest dating someone from the immediate team, but if it's not someone you're working with all the time it could work I guess.
  • This is why I got a heart rate monitor! They are all estimates but based on my experience those estimates are usually inflated to a degree so I'd say to use the lowest number. For comparison the last big ride I did was 86 miles at an average of 19.7mph and I burned 2570 cals, MFP estimates that would have been 4310!! I…
  • Aside from downloading the app they are pretty light on data usage with only the upload of your activity. While you are walking etc it's using the GPS antenna which will only eat into your battery life. Using MapMyWalk as I type this too.
  • Hello, feel free to add me and I'll offer up my 2 cents worth to keep you going :o)
  • Yep, too many people aren't willing to put in the effort and want to lose weight in weeks without making any changes. Gotta put the time and effort to do it right - think there's a lot of people with a similar mindset here too. Feel free to add me too (and that applies to all too)
  • My tips / thoughts: Don't bother with fad diets and don't try and lose the weight too quickly, it took a year to gain it and it ain't gonna shift in 4 weeks. The faster you lose it, the easier it is to put on. Work up to it - whatever 'it' is. If you suddenly go from 2000 to 1200 cals a day your body's going to go WTF? and…
  • Well you're definitely in the right place to get those goals nailed! Will add you in a sec ....
  • Am doing a 100 mile ride for charity in August :o)
  • Happy hump day! UK based MFPer here, although feel free to add me wherever you are!
