(Couldn't edit my post for some reason. Wanted to add...) Oops! I totally forgot about edamame. I have tried to find it fresh, which I would prefer, but no one seems to carry it. Only frozen. I always have some frozen edamame in the freezer. It's a quick and easy snack, since you just have to boil it for maybe 5 minutes…

Oh, I also have 'NudgerSize' only on my iPad. I set it to remind me every hour between 10am and 5pm to do 5-10 minutes of cardio. That can get me up to an extra hour or more of exercise throughout the day, in addition to my main morining workout, and a few minutes of afternoon yoga/ballet.

Hey, thanks for thinking of me, Quel1970! :-) I'm just one of those people who really doesn't like frozen (or canned) anything, for the most part. My freezer has a few convenience meals, and often some frozen Ace demi-baguettes for my husband (9 minutes in the oven and it comes out almost like freshly-baked bread), oh and…

Um...... MyFitnessPal? ;-) I'd been doing my own weight loss plan for the last few months. Losing weight. Keeping my own food & activity journals. Keeping a graph of my weight loss progress. (Sound familiar?) My husband, then a frend, recommended MFP, so I tried it. What's better than my own tracking is I wasn't counting…

I use 'Almond Fresh' (original). I only use it in cereal and for baking, though. I don't drink it as a beverage, on its own. Nope. Wait. On rare occasions, I will mix it with chocolate powder to make chocolate milk. I tried the vanilla flavour and it was good, but too limiting, as I went to bake something, and realized I…

Good luck! :-) I replaced my old scale because it would vary a few pounds just stepping off and getting back on. Alas, my new, "extremely accurate", $100 digital scale with body analysis does the same thing. ...Not always, but enough to be infuriating. It's one thing to be in maintenance mode and go, "Oh, I've gained 2…

I see food-related doc's from time to time. I've been (mostly) vegan for maybe 20 years, and generally steer clear of anything with too much of an agenda. I appreciate fact/science/reason, and those are what sway me most. Then again, I haven't actually changed anything significantly after having watched one of these doc's.…

I can't really answer your question, but I can relate. The bane of my existence, these days, seems to be mini wholegrain pitas, my favourite commercially-prepared curry lentil soup, and baby bok choy. The mini pitas are only sold in bags that would take me two weeks to consume, but they're only good for 5-7 days from…

Don't even give it a second thought. It's all so personal. I bet you look fabulous now, and will look just as good at whatever weight you decide you want to be. Life would be really boring if everyone's bodies were the same silhouette. I find many curvier women to be really attractive, and wish I could be confident enough…

I'm 5'4" (er...5'3"-something...161cm...whatever that is in inches), and will stop trying to lose weight once I feel I look good. There's a part of me that wants to get back to my pre-IR weight of 97lbs. As much as I intellectually prefer to be under 100lbs, I felt I looked better at around 110lbs.

Someone I respect suggested a ratio for me would be 20-25% protein, 30-35% fat, and 40-45% carb's. I try to aim for the protein and carb ratios, with an eye to raising the protein slightly and lower the carb's slightly. (I am insulin resistant, and carb's and protein spike insulin production, especially simple carb's.)…

My 2 cents... I'm always amazed by how much expertise in a given subject so many arguably completely inexpert people fancy themselves to have. (I have actual, legitimate expertise in a couple of fields, and I couldn't be bothered correcting the avalanche of myths, misinformation, and outright lies posted on those subjects…

Really? So it was just coincidence that I looked t diaries with no exercise? Freaky. :-)

In 'Forks Over Knives', the emphasis is on the link between consuming animal proteins and disease. Maybe if you keep that in mind, it will spur you to minimze, then eliminate, animal proteins from your diet?

Women should be somewhere between 20-25% body fat, as a general guideline. I believe going below 15% triggers amenorrhea.
-
Huh. :-) i have the opposite problem. Scale is going down, down, down, and my wast is the same size. EDIT: "waist" (darn iPad on-screen keyboard...not sensitive enough)

I want to compare apples to apples, inasmuch as possible. So, I weigh myself after my mornining workout, naked, just before I get in the shower, before I eat or drink anything.

I have one that is co-branded WeightWatchers, and was sold to me as being "very accurate". I was promised "repeatability" for that $100. It works well enough....has all the usual analyses, and can store up to 4 people (I think). But here's the thing.... I bought it because my previous scale could be 2lbs out just stepping…

I'm new to MFP and one of the only uses I've found for it so far is in helping me optimze my fat/carb/protein ratio. It's day 5 on MFP (with three days added retroactively), and I'm ever closer to the ratio that someone I respect suggested for me: 20-25% protein, 30-35% fat, and 40-45% carbohydrate. Each day, the carb's…

I don't pretend to have the expertise to give others nutritional, fitness, or health advice. That's why I usually just share my personal experiences, if it reates to a question asked. Further, though, i have some general rules like...I don't take weight loss advice from fat people, or those who've never had a weight issue…

I haven't read any of the replies. I'm just posting to say I have PCOS-related insulin resistance and started taking 3g/day cinnamon supplements back in November 2011. Although I was unable to lose any weight before that (diet and exercise actually led to weight gain), I started losing weight FROM THE DAY I started taking…

Wow! I wouldn't have thought 22lbs could make such a difference. But (to me, anyway) you look like a new person! Congrat's on the loss! ;-)

Oh, I don't know.... Breakfast is my biggest meal, and that's probably 500 cal's. Then I still have at least 700 cal's for the rest of the day, and more because I exercise pretty hard. Aside from a pretty traditional breakfast, the rest of the day I eat things like a couple of tablespoons of spicy hummus and a small,…

This is just me, but I find most caloric expenditure estimates to be comically inflated. When I do an hour on my treadmill, it says I've burned maybe 300 calories. MFP suggests it something like double that. So, I go with my treadmill, and manually enter that. I do a lot of toning, which is more resistance or…

Huh. Curious how none of the usual antioxidant suspects (blueberries, pomegranate, acai, etc.) are even mentioned. But maybe I'll remember this little video when I'm shopping for herbal teas, in the future. :-)
-
Sorry to hijack the thread but, just out of curiosity, what rank was acai given? I've seen a lot of antioxidant lists, and it's as though no two are alike (unless it's just a copy of another list). But acai is often not even included because it is a relatively recent discovery (in terms of the antioxidant discussion)…
-
Not to answer your question, but just something that was funny to me... I've been drinking acai juice for years, after I learned of it's high antioxidant properties, thus potentially preventing cancer or for anti-aging. You know...what "the experts" were saying, at the time. Maybe last year or so, I was shopping, and the…

I'm similar (I'm vegan) and I don't care about fat intake at all. I'm overweight now because I became insulin resistant a few years ago. Now that I'm treating that, diet and exercise are allowing me to lose the weight I gained. So, I'm concerned about foods that spike insulin production. And fat doesn't. I've had high fat…

Hehehehe... What's even more worrisome are all those people who apparently only defecate once every few days! Yikes!! My bowel movements didn't change when I started losing weight, I think manly because I was already eating a pretty healthy diet. I just reduced the overall quantities, and reduced simple carb's. I "poop" 2…

I'm tinkering with the ratios, and it's working well for me. That fat/carb/prtein pie chart is really the only thing I care about, right now. I don't really care about total calories. I'm new to MFP, but I've been successfully losing weight for a few months now. Someone I respect suggested the following target ratio for…
