  • yeah, your ketostix will start showing ketones once your body starts processing them, which can certainly happen within the first week. However, that does not mean you are "keto adapted", and when that happens, people say the ketostix may start showing false negatives, as once keto adapted your body is burning fat…
  • My friends were a little surprised the first time we went out to dinner and I ordered a cheeseburger, no bun, no fries and especially when I declined a beer... that's a big one for me. I love draft beer and it's the hardest thing for me to cut from this diet. But when I am on track, as I plan to be for at least the next…
  • Keep at it Rachel. The biggest successes are those people who first became very close with failure. You can do this. You want it bad enough and you will. Never doubt yourself and always keep going. It's not easy in the beginning, but the more you do it the easier it becomes. There are some really great and knowledgeable…

  • Calorie restriction in the first few weeks is not important, however for long term success, you still need to manage your calories. Most people advocate to eat as much as you want for the first few weeks, of only low carb high fat foods. Your gonna feel like crap for the first few days as your body switches from burning…
  • I am looking forward to not just "knowing" that food is fuel, but actually living my life that way. To eat for energy and not for emotional satisfaction. To consistently say no thank you to junk food and to being out with friends and still staying on track. To having a healthy attitude and relationship to food.
  • Yep, I do. but my "moderate carb" days tend to creep up to high carb a lot more often then not. When I get myself on track, I drop down to keto level carbs, 20g a day is goal, but I don't kill myself if it creeps closer to 30g or lower than 10g. Best of luck, if you can stick to it through the first few weeks, you'll be…
  • Jennybird99, Don't doubt yourself. Use this group for support and inspiration, but more important know that you can do it. I have been off and on LCHF/Keto since starting in October '14. I just last week recommitted myself to it and have gone from 192 to 179 in just a week...the next bit is going to be the hardest for me.…
  • jumanajane, I have been ruminating this exact issue. Started Keto last October, saw fantastic losses, but found I wasn't my usual, happy-go-lucky self, and being pre-meno, I found my preperiod mood to be downright dark and nasty. I have coasted in and out for the past few months and after a serious carby binge while on…
  • It would be so great if we could all find that one size fits all secret for getting and staying healthy, but as evidenced above, it's different for all of us. Some of us have had health scares, some have watched our loved ones suffer unnecessarily, for some it was middle age creep, others the lack of control... the list…
  • I think for newbies, stix are very helpful. As a newbie, you're still learning which foods have hidden carbs and when you binge, the stix help you determine when you've gone too far and how long it takes to get back into ketosis. I have been sporadically working this WOE since October and still use the stix, especially…
  • I love your plan and I wish you the best of luck! Just want to add to what Knitormiss posted about not tying yourself to the time table, but rather the actual plan. Weight loss is not linear, just like life. You have your goals set and you can get there, but the timetable that actually works may be a lot different from the…
  • TO, I have a very similar story as yours...I lost 35 lbs last year, down from 200 lbs to my goal weight of 165 and decided to give myself a break. I sputtered around half a$$ing my diet and gained 6-7 lbs, which I was carrying for a few months. Not a huge amount, and still "close" to my goal weight. Still (mostly) fitting…
  • Love the recipes on Craig's site. I follow him mostly on instagram and fb, and when I see something delicious, I know I can have it...with a little work. I try to eat pretty simple Keto style, but since I've strayed so much in the past 6 months, I need to start incorporating some more complicated meals/recipes and find…
  • Hi all, I'm Darlene, 41 yo wife and mom of 3. I am also the child and sibling of insulin dependent obese family members. Stood by my mom after her triple bypass surgery 2.5 years ago, tried helping her manage her out of control diabetes and am continually frustrated by it all. I currently weigh 189 lbs after getting down…
  • There are a few low carb and keto groups that you may want to look at or join. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/1143-keto They offer a lot of information and support, as well as liked minded people. Best of luck!

  • I joined the band wagon...had my 2nd morning BPC with the added two eggs, but was out of butter. I was very nervous, but it wasn't bad. I may not have blended it enough though, as the first sip had some "texture" to it...and so I put it back in and gave it a bit more with the nutribullet (which is what I usually use for my…
  • lots of fruits, veggies, yogurt and dairy have carbs. Google low carb foods and for *kitten* and giggles, google high carb as well. Eye opening.
  • You can also go in and edit your calorie burn each time. A bit of a PITA, but it will keep your exercise info without increasing your calories allowed.
  • Nope, keto does not restrict calories to that low...it's like a keto diet, as she's keeping her carbs very low...but the calorie restriction does not fit as keto tends to be high fat for sustainability.

  • I loved my wine and beer pre LC, but have switched to vodka and flavored seltzer, sometimes with a shot of Skinny cosmo mix for a little sweetness. I can only drink 1 of 2 though, as the vodka gives me a wicked headache. I do like rum and diet or jack and diet, but I tend to overdo those.

  • Perhaps there is something else going on with her, in her personal life, that you are not quite aware of, but which is impacting her ability to be empathetic and caring? I mean, you've said that a few months ago you would have believed this was not in her character, so maybe something else is going on.
  • OH girl, we all have those moments, days, weeks. The really important thing here is that you did learn from it AND you were in tune enough with our body to monitor the way you felt after ingesting the carbage and recognize it didn't feel great. you'll have better preparation and self control next time. Just don't give up…
  • Thanks all, I definitely had a brain fart when I posted. I know my carbs that day were still well below the average, and still within low carb levels. I had just psyched myself up that I would be out of Keto, so wondered if the sticks could read a false positive (as opposed to the false negative everyone talks about).
  • The Moderator had to step in with a reminder to act like a grown up or move on...wow... BTW I love all you guys!! I loved the solidarity!!
  • [/quote] And you think OP is going to be able to hit 55% protein with that stuff? I use all that stuff to help me hit my protein goals along with a lot of meat, poultry, and fish...and my protein intake is still only usually around 30%. I mean, I agree that I would swap out the protein for higher fat if I were to do…
  • okay, okay...sorry, I had a moment of weakness and had to jump in on that thread. WTF is that woman thinking aligning low carb advice with suicide advice.
  • Have you done any searches for "Low carb, non meat protein sources"? I found this when I did: http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/vegetarian/tp/Low-Carb-Vegetarian-Protein-Foods.htm I eat low carb, and have for the past several months. There are specific forums for low carb eating which can help you learn a lot. Unfortunately…
  • I can't...I just can't. To each their own...why is that so hard for people? I stop reading whenever I see someone post "You need to"...um who are you to tell someone else that you DON'T REALLY KNOW what to do. Nope, not for me. I get the CICO who are young, buff folks who live in the gym and literally can not comprehend…
