Christmas Eve, 2008--6 months after baby #2--I had had enough. By May 2009, I dropped almost 30 lbs, was running, in the best shape of my life at age 36! Then in fall 2011--depression hit hard. No exercise, lots of food. I've spent the last 5 years gaining 20 pounds and at least 3 sizes. And I'm DONE. I need to get my life…

How timely is this thread, because yesterday I had a total binge on greasy Chinese (felt it afterwards, fo sho) and didn't get my dog walk in because of the stupid really cold rain. The dog needed it, and so did I!

haven't checked to see if OP responded to this, but here's my take: the value of losing is learning to accept and recover from disappointment. learning that getting what one wants--to win a game, get a good grade, whatever--requires effort.

A-freakin'-men. I have 2 boys, 10 and 3. I am also a substitute teacher, working toward an education masters. We've managed to dumb down public education so that a kid can graduate from high school if he/she manages to just SHOW UP 50% of the time.
