  • Yes, the cost is inflated. What do you do for a living, that you or the business you work for doesn't inflate the cost in order to make a profit? Not that I disagree that the overall cost of our healthcare system is a wreck, but the hospital has to pay what it is charged, too, or it'll go out of business.

  • So...you have a bill that states you were charged $36 (or $63) for a Tylenol?

  • How much was the total cost? My insurance covers 80% I believe...so unless it's a $20,000 bill for removing tonsils...which I doubt...then just what kind of insurance do you have? Tonsilectomy- http://healthcarebluebook.com/page_Results.aspx?id=9&dataset=hosp I hate forums that have no link buttons.

  • I eat what's on sale, mostly the lower calorie variety. I'm not all that picky.

  • It doesn't have to do with staying at your current weight. It has to do with staying on track for the rate of weight loss planned. If you plan for 1lb per week, it's a 500 calorie per day deficit. If you exercise 500 calories a day in addition to your deficit, that'll give you a 1000 calorie per day deficit, and you'll…
  • I generally don't cook either. Black beans and rice are a standard around here, yet it wasn't mentioned. Get a pack of yellow rice, follow the directions. It's simple- Bring water to a boil. Dump in rice. Let it simmer with the lid on for like 20 minutes or whatever the package says. About 10 minutes into that, set up…

  • I leave for work at the same time, a little after 5:30am. I started mixing up a protein shake the night before and sticking it in the refrigerator. In the morning, I can just grab it and go. I don't know how that fits into your low-carb goal, but it's fast, and keeps me from being hungry until lunch time.
  • I eat at lunch. I get 30 minutes...so I eat. I eat what I want, taking into consideration cost, hunger, mood, and nutritional needs. It's harder to burn calories than it is to avoid them in the first place.
  • If Obama put us in this situation, I just have to ask...what situation is that? The problem I have with politics is people find someone to blame, then they look at the world for problems to blame them for.
  • I own 1 watch, and I've never worn it, it's too heavy. Unless you count the HRM watch, which I wore for a week, now I only bother when I'm using the monitor. I don't use aftershave, never understood the need to.
  • I would say use the estimate here until you can afford a HRM. Better to do it and 'credit' some calories, than not do it at all because you aren't sure. You're moving, you're trying, that's the important thing for now. Don't go crazy with eating back calories as a reward, just eat something relatively healthy if you feel…

  • Weighing yourself doesn't do anything to affect your weight. It doesn't take weight off. It doesn't put weight on. It's just a tool for measuring. What you do in your head with that information, whether you panic and stop eating, or binge on donuts, that's up to you. It has NOTHING to do with the scale.
  • My assumption is that the calories it calculates are for your heart rate being above resting, so it would all count. You could try wearing your HRM for an hour of sleep, and see what it says. Then subtract that from every hour of exercise, if you're so inclined.
  • But...where else will I get my recipe to make marinara sauce?! Actually, you probably didn't include it in the database, because I can't find it. So you're not bloating the database by adding your own recipe, unless you check the box to add to the database.
  • I watched some movie on Netflix..."AHHH Zombies!" or something. Was funny, and I never watch zombie movies.

  • You can lose weight without exercise. Doing both would be great, but I lost weight eating more fast food and processed food than most here would approve of. They aren't the ones deciding if I'm losing though. Fit it in your calories for the day, make adjustments when you can. But, try to cut out the fast food, it's high in…
  • You know what's funny? I knew that since 1st or 2nd grade. I have no idea why, but any time I think of that fact, I think of the gym at that school. The teacher must have told us what the word means at some point, and of course, it stuck.
  • I make peanut butter sandwiches with 2tbs and it's just slightly less than I would normally want to use.
  • So...for the 'only water is water' people. If I drink a cup of black coffee, then drink a cup of water, how much water is that? 1 cup? What if instead, I pour the water into the black coffee and drink it, how much water is that?

  • I didn't used to even eat anything in the morning. Now most days I at least manage to dump some protein powder in a shaker cup and add water. It keeps me from being hungry too much before lunch. I used to eat a pack of Pop Tarts on the drive to work for the same reason.
  • Get a scale if you think it'll help you track your weight. And forget about the whole muscle weighs more than fat thing. Yes, it does. But your goal weight is probably based on an average healthy weight, and that includes both fat and muscle.
  • It's not the lighting, it's Wal Mart.
  • My road bike weighs a little more than that. But then, it's a Panasonic, and about as old as I am, if not older.
  • I know...how many times have I been asked "Why do you have to work on _(Insert Holiday Here)_?" I'm off today. But, I work the weekend as well as Monday. I had another 4 day week this week. I get a lot of days off, so there is no worry about 'burning' a day off. I get 33 days plus certain holidays every year...I don't…
  • These sound more interesting than the movies they're based on. When are they coming to Netflix!?
  • FYI, a pharmacist coworker was telling me the other day, during a break in our bi-annual tennis game, that he went to the gym most every night while in pharmacy school. He had exams to study for. He had classes to attend. He had a full-time job he was working. He made flash cards, and went through them while walking at a…
  • You've been a yo-yo dieter since you were 10...so I'm sure the best way to get down to the weight you think you should be at in an arbitrary time period like your birthday is to start a yo-yo diet again. /sarcasm
  • Get it out and set it up. Use it. If your husband is on board with you losing weight, he'll make room. If you don't use it, then he has a legitimate reason for not wanting to waste the space.
  • I don't log water at all, because it's a nuisance. I feel I drink more of it when I don't think about exactly how much I'm drinking. As for not counting water that has anything added to it, that's really not counting all your water then. Your stomach doesn't know if the water is by itself or not. I had 2 cups of water, got…
