Ok, I'm a Canadian who has never been anywhere near Australia... What on earth kind of "pie" are you eating with ketchup? To me, pie is a dessert, like apple pie, pumpkin pie, or one of my personal favorites, strawberry-rhubarb pie, etc. I HOPE that this is some type of meat pie. If so, we would always make the distinction…

Maggie, right now, I am walking at 3 mph and running at 5 mph, and slow down to 4.5 mph if I am feeling tired. Everyone is different - it's whatever speeds you feel most comfortable with. The trick for me is to remember that the walk is to recover, so really try to 'rest' during that break, and don't push yourself to walk…

Mmmm, Smarties are so much better than M&M's! I do like the other M&M varieties (peanut, etc), but when it comes to plain M&M vs. Smarties? SMARTIES, please!! (do you eat the red ones last?) All this talk about chips / fries reminds me... I laughed the other day, when my Scottish mother-in-law invited us over for fish and…

My favorites are Luna bars and Zone Perfect bars, especially the dark chocolate varieties. But like you, I don't buy them often because they are an expensive habit.

Amanda - I only had the dog as a walking partner on Monday at my mom's. I'm back home now, with my "human" walking partner again, who is the one who didn't like the rain. The dog loved it, and I was completely soaked when we got back! Congrats on finishing up your last final! More time to study for LSAT!!!

Jenn, I've been thinking about you all afternoon. A) I am really impressed with your courage and determination, and your decision to make your life better all around, inside and out, and B) I am really shocked that he put the ring up for sale - what a dummard. Doesn't he realize you are the best thing that ever has and…

Jenn, you sound like you are doing great, but I am sitting here absolutely traumatized! I had absolutely no idea that this had happened! How long have you been back at your mom's? From what you're saying, it sounds like you've made a very wise decision. Funny sometimes, how getting the ring can actually make you realize…

Maggie, I need to get back to lifting weights myself... Since I haven't been doing much lately, my recommendations are a bit archaic. I had a Kathy Smith Lift Weights to Lose Weight, which was nice because there was a 20-min upper body workout, and a 20-min lower body workout. You could alternate them daily, or do them…

Ok, so yesterday's update first - I had an appointment in my hometown (1.5 hours away), so I went out for lunch with my mom to one of my favorite restaurants where I can get a reasonably healthy meal and I made very strong suggestions on what she should make us for supper to ensure that I again had something relatively…

The girls got home before I made it to the treadmill, so I went after they were in bed. I did my "Week 3.5" workout for C25k, and actually managed to run all 4 of the 3 minute intervals. I did slow down from my regular pace for the last minute of the last interval, but at least I was still jogging! Amanda, you'll have to…

ARGH - after 3 BBQ's in 2 days, I have gained back all the pounds down that I was seeing last week when I was peeking at the scale. Hopefully if I really watch myself today, I can lose at least a bit of it before weigh-in tomorrow. Amanda, I hope you're feeling better. I'm guessing the endorphins released by your body from…

Terri, thanks for the tips! I hardly ever drink milk, but I should!... Are you sure my husband didn't put you up to posting Tip #2? 55, sounds like you're all set for your 'new' life! You're a brave one to go for your 3rd child. I'm done with 2. I think the only reason I didn't gain 10 pounds during my MFP…

No, sorry, not you... I was answering the original question: "Anyone from New Brunswick, Canada? =) " :ohwell:

YES!! and likely just down the street or across town from you...

You're so right. 1lb of fat does weigh the same as 1lb of muscle. 1lb = 1 lb, but it's the content of what that pound entails that matters. If I imagine what 1 pound of fat looks like (imagine a pound of butter or lard), compared to what 1 pound of lean muscle looks like - I choose the muscle!! See also…

@AmandaB4588, let me know how your C25k run goes. To tell the truth, I made up that interval because I couldn't remember what the actual weekly workouts were supposed to be around that level. After checking the C25k, I thought it might have been easier to try Week 3 - (R90s, W90s, R3m, W3m) X 2. But that would be backwards…

I just got off the treadmill - I'm doing a personal variation of the Couch to 5k plan. Basically run / walk intervals, but I randomly decided to start by trying to do (3 min run with 2 min walk) X 4. That would be somewhere between weeks 3 and 4 for you C25k experts. Tonight, I managed the first two intervals ok, then the…

@ AmandaB4588 - I will join you and Jenn with the 140's chanting - anything that will help get me there... I think we're all starting the month off pretty close together - I was about 154 this morning. I say 'about' because I am weighing myself at home, not my official gym scale. @Bru - Happy Birthday! Here's to…

Well, hello my 5 lb'ers!!! I'm baaack... I hope all my old 'loser' friends are still here - I see Terri and 55, I hope Bru, Kelly, Jen+2, BJ, Tina, Phyljen, etc are still here too! I didn't weigh myself this morning - oops! But I'm STILL somewhere between 150 and 155. My goal this month, as it has been for what? the past…

I'm back, tail between my legs... I pretty much disappeared for the month of May, and have not been focused at all on my health. I'm not even sure that I'm mentally ready to get back at it, but I thought if I posted I might feel more accountable to my 5 lb friends... I weighed myself at the gym on Saturday - my 'official'…

Quick Update: I am doing well with my 30 min exercise challenge. Mon/Tues I walked on my lunch break, Wed I went for a C25k style walk/jog outside after the kids were in bed (and got caught in the rain!) and tonight, I went on the treadmill for a speed/incline interval workout. I have taken my vitamins daily, and my…

Update: I worked through my lunch hour, but I did take a break mid-afternoon and went for a 25 minute walk. A small recovery victory! Technically, I still need to get at least 5 more minutes of exercise today, since my 'exercise everyday' challenge is a minimum of 30 minutes. Tomorrow, I plan to take my lunch break, and…

I haven't been to the gym for my official scale weigh-in, but my 'unofficial' start weight for May is 155. Yuck. That 150 mark is like a super stretched elastic on the scale, whenever I get close, I zing backwards. I am going to visit my sister next week. We were originally planning to run a 10k while I was there, but I…

Thanks for taking the time to post this, Grokette. I appreciate you sharing your viewpoint. I'm replying to this post, so I will have it in my topics for future reference.

Congrats Kelly - I went searching through the posts, just to see how you did with your lent challenge. So close to 5... You can do it!
-
I've missed you guys... Bru / Terri, it's nice to know I'm not the only one bouncing around the same few pounds. Let's see if we can take charge in May, and get rid of them for good, and introduce ourselves to new lower numbers on the scale.
-
Bru, thanks for the cheering. I really need to hear it right now. I need my mojo back. :ohwell:
-
55 - I am very proud of you!!! I really struggled this month, and am still up those few pounds that I didn't want to admit to at the end of last month, at 154. I think it's your turn to drag me with you to 150...

April was a complete bust for me. I'm looking forward to it being over. April showers bring May flowers? Well, I am ready to flower!! :flowerforyou:

Totally unfair... I haven't exercised, and have been eating like crap, but I've gained... up around 154ish... BLAH! I'm on track for the GAIN 5LB challenge...
