I've also moved several times and I enjoyed it each time. Originally I'm from Greece, grew up there, and then lived in the US for ~3 years, Germany for another 3 years and now I'm in Japan. I hope I'll get the chance to live in Latin America as well.

How about when you shop for the week, you plan for one or two meals less so that you can eat any leftover food then? This way you won't "need" to finish your plate when you're full - just put it in the fridge to have it on the "fridge clean-up day". If you end up not having any leftover food for that day you can always eat…

Just one thing: change the name to anthropokatharology. Anthrokatharology is too close to arthrokatharology which immediately makes me think of killing spiders. Other than that it's sure success.

Okra is widely used in Greek cuisine and one of my favourite vegetables when cooked right. There's a trick to get rid of sliminess: first wash them, then cut them in pieces and leave them in lemon juice (or vinegar) for a couple of hours before cooking. Traditionally they are put in lemon juice (or unripe grape juice where…

My problem with the TDEE-x% method is that for people that do not exercise regularly (or are working towards an exercise routine but are still not there yet) it's more complicated to calculate their TDEE because it varies a lot. For example, in my case, I've been slowly adding more and more exercise in my daily life, but…

53.5km/33.2miles done up to now

We're the only species wearing clothes. Doesn't that seem a bit off to you? A piece of advice to the OP: talk less, think more. It will do wonders.

Halfway there

Oh boy, that's my bad. The traditional Okinawan diet is of course before the 50s. There was a large study 30 years ago, thus the confusion.
-
Of course they can, I totally agree. And of course pork is part of Okinawan cuisine, but in *limited* amount - that's the key word here. What I tried to convey with my previous post is that the way Okinawans eat today is quite different from the so called "Okinawan diet". The same thing happened in Crete/Greece. Locals do…
-
Nowadays Okinawan cuisine is full with fatty pork dishes (and they put that nasty spam/corned beef in every single dish they have), but that's not how they used to eat 30 years ago. That is the diet that's known for the Okinawan people's longevity, the one of 30 or so years ago. Its main characteristics are low caloric…

I'm in!

Can I join in? I plan to do 100km in February, here's my ticker

This is a very nice explanation of the effect of large deficits and it makes perfect sense. But that also confirms that the BMR is not a magic number and it's used as a rule of thumb, right? What I'm trying to say, using x% off the TDEE as a lower limit would also serve the same function - is that correct?
-
OP, I understand your question - actually I was wondering about the exact same thing. My understanding is that the BMR is just a guideline so that it stops you from having a deficit that's too large. Other than that I don't see where it plays a role.

I'm also in! I'll try to do 100km (about 62 miles) this time, let's see if I can manage it. Here's my new ticker: Edit: For those who ask how to make a ticker, go to tickerfactory.com or lilyslim.com (I like those ones a bit more) and set up a ticker. Then copy the code in your post.

I finally finished it too! Just on time! 80.8 km or 50.2 miles done! Yay! I look forward to February's challenge, I hope I can do 100km! Congrats to everyone!

I got a dog. I wake up early every morning ever since.

Theoretical physicist here, spending all day in front of my computer and books. Add me if you like, I'd like some more friends.

Just passed 40 miles, I'm at 40.5 at the moment (65km). Only 9.5miles/15km left!

I agree with the previous comment that you cannot convince someone else to eat better, unless they really want to do that themselves. My bf used to be much more health conscious than me and would point out things like "there's really no need to have another snack" and I would get really annoyed with him, even though I knew…

Just writing this so that I can come back whenever I get frustrated!

I always thought it's normal that Sheldon and Leonard share an apartment because it's realistic, especially for CA. But it's true that Sheldon seems to have more than enough money, at least at this stage of his career. Perhaps he couldn't afford it when he was first looking for a roommate, but now he's too attached to…

Yes, I know, but still, they are doing a fantastic job. They show things that are at the front line of today's research and that's impressive.
-
Ahhh, Big Bang Theory is a great show! I love Sheldon, and, being a physicist myself, I recognize a lot of his quirks in many people I know! "There, there" with a pat on the shoulder has become a sort of an inside joke at work whenever someone's frustrated. I'm also impressed they're doing such a good job with the science…

I's say getting healthy is a priority here, don't you agree? Missing your period for 5 months is a huge clue that something's wrong. Go see your doctor.
