I stick to a moderate carb diet with high protein and low fats. My ratios usually look like 50-56% Protein, 30-35% carbs, and 10-14% Fats. I only apply mine to the actual amount of calories that I'm eating. If you're eating at a deficit, I wouldn't recommend adding back exercise calories or even acknowledging the new figures that MFP projects.

My vote goes to HIIT training. Know it sounds kind of vague, but "research" shows that by doing intervals, you retain more muscle and boost your metabolism even higher.
