  • If I'm luck they match!
  • NO.....diet coke has chemicals that slow metabolism. GOOGLE it and stay of wikipedia. Drink full bodied beer and lots of it. Then run a few extra miles the next day.
  • Sex, drugs, endorphins, and booze! Live it up a little!
  • 2-3 drinks per week? I'm a 12-pack in 1 sitting kind of guy. Nothing is better than running 20 miles on Saturday morning and then getting harmered all day long. Don't hold back, just run long then you can do whatever you want. PS - no need to comment, I fully understand this is neither healthy or recommended but I love it!
  • OH, NO music...ever. It's a ZEN thing.
  • $20 cash money and my ID. Nothing else. I live in Chicago and run on the lake front. Water fountains are everywhere. I only bring food/energy/gu if I am out for longer than 2.5 hours. Clif bars usually do they trick. I'm with CarsonRuns on the deprivation training. It has worked well in my first 3 marathons and hopefully…
  • Wrong. I have about 8% body fat and run 4-5 marathons a year. I burn more energy because I have more mass. It simply takes more energy to move a larger frame compared to a smaller frame. Treadmills are inaccurate? I never once said that in my first comment. I agree that they are but I think you missed the point.
  • So if you're a Christian you aren't allowed to listen to good music. Bummer.
  • Ask your doctor for an E-95 Food Panel test. It tests for allergies/sensitivities of 95 common foods. The only thing you ate that sounds troublesome would be the mac & cheese. Specifically either the dairy (cheese) or gluten (noodles). Once you can identify these foods you can cut them out of your diet and start getting…
  • Pour water into a measuring cup (liquid measuring cup) and add it into the bottle. Repeat until full. Tally up the ounces pour in. PRESTO!
  • Do we really need a doctor to tell us chemical and processed foods are not good for us? I just heard results on a 5 year study that concluded "a diet heavy in fat and sugar can lead to several health problems". How much money was wasted on that gem?
  • I do not eat low-cal, low-fat, zero cal foods (neither should you). Eat food as it was intended to be (minus chemicals). That is never the issue. Moderation/portion control is the issue. If a food is advertised as "zero-calorie" you should run, run away fast! If there are no calories, then what is it you are…
  • I have a reaccurring agrument with my girlfriend at the gym while on the treadmill. We will both run for an hour. She will run faster and farther but I will always have more calories burned than her. Facts are facts. It takes more energy to move my 190 lb frame than it does to move her 135 lb frame. Like the comment above,…
  • I agree with the 10% increase rule but 24-30 miles in a month seems really low???? I guess it all depends on your running goals. I would not consider myself a distance runner by any means and I clocked 28 miles last week alone. I guess its all relative.
  • I run in exactly what I trained in. The last thing you want are any surprise when you're half way into your race. Keep it simple. No need to to "geared out" for a 5K. If you get up to halfs and fulls then start thinking about some gear. Even then, if you are running a well established race they have water and snacks every…
  • The Breville JE 98XL. It's $150 but if you check in on foursquare at bed bath and beyond you get a 20% off coupon for any 1 item which saves you $30. Making this model the same price as the model below it. More power, more juice! I use it twice daily and absolutely love it. Carrots and celery are the base for everything.…

  • and wikipedia is not.
  • I in in bed by 8pm and up at 4am every morning to workout (well, 5-6 times a week). Have been doing this for about 3 years. You just get in the groove. The only downfall would be weekends. If I go out on Friday or Saturday until midnight or 1am I am still up the next morning at 4am. My body is like clock work.
  • These types of meals cater to being lazy...the reason we are over weight and on this website. Take the time for yourself and make your lunch everyday. I usually make a large dinner the night before and take the leftovers as my lunch the following day. While these meals are better for you than Burger King, they are far from…
  • Bottomline, we have altered our food supply tremendously over the last 60 years or so. Anyone who thinks those changes are not currently affecting our society is either naive or stupid. There are a million studies that say a millions things but use common snese. Adding chemicals to our food supply can't be ok.
  • I'd stay away from zero calorie foods. If a food has flavor it should have calories. Not chemicals.
  • Dark chocolate banana babies!!!!!! Whole Foods has them in the Chicago-area.
  • Is Douch Bag a race?
  • What are you doing to burn 700-900 calories? Hopefully you are not getting this number from the machines at your local gym. Those numbers are inflated greatly for a reason. People want to feel accommplished after a work out. An inflated calories count help you achieve this. I have read several acticles that claim the major…
  • "You have already been running for 3 hours, what's another hour? - marathon mindset
  • If there is one thing I have learned over the last 10 years of living a healthy lifesytle is that there is no blanket statement, method, whatever, that works for everyone. Some people have success with not eating before working out. Others (like myself) need to eat before working out. Eating is never an issue for me early…
  • There is nothing from a fast food restaurant you should ever put into your body (except water or coffee). That food is so genetically modified and loaded with chemicals. Not to mention, most salads from fast food restaurents have the same amount of calories as the burgers!
  • Washing machine????? That will ruin a shoe fast. You should take the time (and spend the money) to get a quality shoe from the start. Workout shoes will not last forever (3-6 months tops). The actual structure of the shoe will start to diminish well before the outter appearance of the shoe goes. Check out New Balance 1200…
  • Hal Higden has a book (MARATHON) in which there is a quote from one of the organizers of CARA (Chicago Area Runner Association) that has always stuck with me. "If you can chatter your pace doesn't matter". You should be able to talk with your running buddy throughout the run. Basically he is saying it doesn't matter how…
