No idea how many calories, for this one, but one of my favorites that I think all skaters (especially newer ones) benefit from is one involving starting while laying on your stomach and at the whistle jump up as fast as you can and sprint-skate 3 laps. It helps get them in the habit of getting up quickly and get back with…

likewise. Anyone taking advantage of the weather lately?

Hmm I'm curious if there are ways to modify the wrist watch design.... If not, perhaps we should put our heads together to corner the market on derby-friendly (and resistant) HRMs ;)
-
No particular HRM that I've in mind. My guy uses a regular wrist-watch style though I'm told that using one that also incorporates a chest strap will likely give more heart rate accuracy :)
-
Have you tried wearing a heart rate monitor? That's probably the most accurate way to measure how many calories you've burned. You can find some adequate ones for about $30
-
Yeah. Keep your heart rate monitor on throughout to help get an accurate reading of how many calories you're burning.
-
I wouldn't worry about it too much :) Just make sure you are properly warmed up and stretched, otherwise you'll risk reinjury

Drill time! Make sure your trucks are loose enough. You may feel more secure changing your wheels to a softer grade so that you've more traction, however that may slow you down a bit Secondly, start drilling yourself to go up and down stairs sideways, crossing one leg over the other. Then kick it up a knotch by adding some…

Living in Seattle, i got a few things from Fastgirl skates, but from other derby forums I've been on, the skating-supply websites can be very competitive if you call them and ask if they can do better than so-and-so.com I got my suregrip V-drive wheels at lowpriceskates.com and when it came to bearings, my guy and I both…

Umm I'm happy to help, but am a little confused by who's asking what in this post...? Flat track? Banked Track? Old School?

If you follow the plan and accept the risks and side-effects associated with taking a pregnancy hormone, you will see results. But I guess in my opinion it would be more beneficial for you in the long-run to continue with a solid diet and exercise program, because as you lose weight, you'll be teaching yourself healthy…

Make sure you do weight training. The bottom line with this is that the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn, even while at rest :)
-
Form can be a good thing to keep in mind. For a while I was getting told that I was "getting too low" I've also looked at how professional and Olympic speed skaters train for ideas
-
No clue...How does one measure calorie's burned anyway?
-
Start climbing stairs sideways to help with your cross-overs :) If you wanna push yourself further, five lb. ankle weights on both legs will help as well
-
I do a lot of dancing (no alcohol for me, thanks!) and go to the gym usually 1-2 times a day I've been wearing leg and arm weights while doing the cardio machines to push myself further

Hi! I'm currently retired from banked-track but am considering trying out for flat-track soon My name while I was active was Steph Infection I bought my first pair of R3's to mix-up my workout routine, but along the way I discovered I really loved the butt-kicking and found RD to be a great outlet for aggression.
-
Make sure you cross-train throughout :) less injury-risk that way
-
I'm a retired bank-tracker, but considering trying out for a flat-track team soon :) Love how it kicks my butt

I've been bellydancing for a few years now, and I'd also recommend looking into dropping in on a local class, if you're interested. Not only does it give you better form, but your fellow classmates can be amazing supporters and are often on the road to a healthy lifestyle as well :) And please, to anyone who has considered…
